Southwest Airlines begins enforcing 'no-show' policy

Enlighten me, please.... in what situation would you decide to cancel your flight 10-15 minutes before departure? At that point, wouldn't you already be on the plane? If most people get to the airport 60-90 minutes before their flight, what kind of scenario would necessitate a cancellation at 30 minutes or less?:confused3

My sister in law is a lawyer. She loves flying SW. More than a few times an out of town deposition has been cancelled while she is in line to board the plane. Her asst calls her to let her know and she gets out of line and goes back to the office. Of course, she buys the fancy fares not the getaway fares. Usually she has a refund pending by the time she gets to the office. Even the times she didn't tell the gate people she wasn't getting on the plane.

It does happen. I was flying to LA last Friday from Midway. My flight became delayed by three hours. So I hopped on my bosses G200 which they were taking to Vegas and caught a SW flight from Vegas.

Landed in LA 2 hours before I would otherwise have landed had I stayed in Chicago.

But I technically cancelled my seat 30 minutes before departure - someone late checking in was going to appreciate getting A25 as a boarding number!
