What is going on with Southwest Airfares? :confused3 I'm trying to book a trip to Orlando to see my sister (and go to WDW too) and the cost of tickets has changed - up and down 3 times in 2 days!!! If I had booked yesterday morning it would have cost me $307.00 round trip, yesterday afternoon, it would have cost me $198.00 round trip......this morning it changed to $268.00 and now it's $342.00.... almost makes me not want to go now...but I have no choice...my sister already booked her timeshare and I promised her that I would go see her.....dang it!!! Do I book now, for fear they might go up again, or do I hold out for the slim chance they could go back down next week.....

When booking airfares, the prices are always the highest on the weekends (most people are off work and planning and booking trips, they dont usually check everyday and dont realize the fares usually drop during the week.) I would book on a Tuesday or Wednesday. On other airlines you can usually see how full a flight is so you know if you have time to wait, but since SWA usually oversells most flights excpecting cancellations you should be safe in waiting till next week to book.

Thats what I was thinking too....I'll see what next week brings

I would wait too. I sure wouldn't pay $342 for Virginia Beach to Orlando. I don't know what is going on with Southwest, I was trying to book Cleveland to Nashville for my brother and it was up and down like a yo-yo just like you were saying. I finally just booked when I saw a decent price and will watch it now to see if it goes down anymore and take the credit if it does.

The airlines change the prices during the week. The weekend has the higher prices with mid week be lowest according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The report was in the
e last week or two.

My parents are trying to book a room at a non Disney resort in NC and the prices move depending on the day of the week. Weekends be higher.

Before XMAS I was tracking the prices on various items ranging from TV sets to BluRay discs on about six different websites. The prices on the items went up on Friday and stayed at the high price until Monday at which point the price would fall and the cycle would repeat.

To get the best price from a given vendor you have to compare prices at the different stores and on various days of the week. ;)

Later,
Dan

Gas prices are really crazy right now, also. It might be that that has something to do with it, also.

Thanks for the advise.....I watched the fares over the weekend, the flight home went down from 208 to 134, then today I was able to book for 99 each way !!!

Picked up our August flights from Milwaukee to Orlando today for 119 R/T. Not bad. However, I did notice that they have got rid of one of their non-stop flights, so that there is only 1 now. It made the return flight a little earlier in the day than I would have liked. It almost made me pick Airtran because of that, but then I don't want to pay baggage fees with Airtran (going for 10 days, I know we'll have checkable luggage).

Southwest got rid of ALL the non-stop flights out of Cleveland. :headache: They don't even have stop over flights with no plane change anymore, every flight Cleveland to Orlando now has a stop with a plane change, sometimes two. Makes me so mad, I love Southwest, but will be using Continental now. :sad1:

Oh, that really sucks. I'm trying to book a flight to Fort Lauderdale next month (a good friend of mine is going down to visit her daughter who's in school there, and I thought I'd tag along). Southwest's prices are through the roof! No non-stops, too. I'm pretty sad, because I always prefer Southwest, but they're making it hard to stay loyal!

Did you check today Tobi? I just got an email from SW for spring flights and I saw some flights I was looking at went down.

I've been looking for May just for the heck of it and today I see I can get $99 each way....of course I'll have to make two stops and a plane change so that my normal 2 hour 15 minute flight will take almost 6 hours......
