I see where SW is accepting ressies for travel through March 6 only as of now. We're hoping to fly out of Chicago-Midway on March 8 and were wondering when SW might begin taking ressies for further out.

Do they announce through e-mailings or such?

Is there one particular day of the week they might announce?

Is there any kind of rhyme or reason to catching their announcements early?

I would not count on expansion of the dates much before the middle of Oct.
You can sign up for their weekly newsletter on the SWA site.
No, they do not announce the expansion of dates, but, they will tell you how far in advance they are taking reservations on the reservation page.
Trust me, when they expand their dates there will be a kajillion posts here.
Rhyme or reason: Yes, if they have a special at the same time, getting there early is a benefit. The special fares go fast.
