Southwest 40/80/120 sale

I was so happy to see that email from Southwest!! It saved us $100 in credits flying PHL to MCO!

Can someone please help!

:confused3

I have never changed my SW flight before to get a credit. Can you please tell me what I can use the credit on? Is it only another airfare?

Thanks!

Southwest is having a great sale if it applies to your city. Fares are 40/80 or 120 based on the mileage of your flight. Of course this only applies to select flights and doesn't apply to mine but hopefully it will help some of you.
Book by june 23 for travel Aug 23-Nov 16.:thumbsup2

Update: It looks like airtran is also participating. Yahoo!!!

Thank you shystalips for posting this, I had tickets already and I was able to get the lower price on one leg of the trip. You saved me $112.00 dollars
I thank you and the mouse thanks you!:thumbsup2

I'm thinking this is as good as it is going to get right now... For a flight in September... some time in July, I'd expect the prices to start going up as it gets closer to the date of flight. I was happy to get the $80 flight to Orlando from Baltimore... but my Sunday return flight is still $163.... I might book it... but I'm tempted to come back Saturday instead for half that airfare. DW would like Sunday to unwind at home anyway...

I would do Saturday for $80! I know it sucks to cut a day from Disney, but $80 is a great deal!

Unless they have changed the rules, the credit is only good on airfare purchased directly from SWA and will expire 1 year from the original date of purchase.

We booked our flights yesterday, PHL to MCO for Oct 5-11th and got $80/pp each way! We have been patiently waiting for the sale to drop down and boy did we benefit from watching and waiting!!! On Monday and Tuesday morning, the exact same flights would have cost us another $500!!! The way I look at it, we just set aside our rental car money!!! Don't think our flight will get any cheaper then $80 each way!!!:banana:

On Tuesday I re-booked my flights going to MCO for $80 but our return flights to MDW were $159.
I kept checking and this morning I found our return flight for $80 .

Not for WDW but I booked Las Vegas with this sale. Originally we priced it at about $1200 for the two of us. Now it will be $562. :)

I saved almost $500 for a family of four! Now I have a travel credit but am wondering if anyone knows if you can sell it or give it to a family member?

you used to be able to do what you are stating

however, it has now changed

credits are tied to "each" name on the ticket

you can only use three "travel credits" and credit card to purchase a new ticket...but not sure how it works with multiple names on a Travel Voucher Fund break out ( in the case ...see bold text .... mentioned below there were two names on the travel fund credits, but the way I did it, "credits" were used for each name separately for the one way tickets )

This is something I will have to try with purchasing later since we have other credits that will expire next year, that is, It should allow me to use travel credits issued in both names on a ticked bought for both names, it is just not something I have been able to try as yet.

Perhaps others can post what their experience has been using this scenario....

just today we had to book single one way travel for each way for each of us to use 12 travel credits we had accumulated with a October 7 2011 expiry ( the new tickets even though booked today, if cancelled would have the October 7 2011 expiry date attached to them, not an expiry of a year from today ) thus, another reason to carefully mange your credits

it seems every time you get a travel credit eg... say the price went down three times, the credits all become a separate entry/number on the confirmation #, thus, it is not just one big $ amount that can be used

this makes booking travel using Ticketless Travel Funds a creative adventure, in the above case I mentioned, it would have been nice just to add the $$$ to one ticket and pay the difference, but alas to use the credits which were all "broken out" as separate little amounts, we had to buy 4 separate one ways to use the credits up

it did not use to be this way but was a change implemented this year by southwest to prevent the sale of these funds which frequently appeared on Ebay

Just booked on Airtran RT MKE-MCO. Sale saved me 116.00! Upgrade hotel? Maybe:)

DD was able to book also, but had to pay more due to her work schedule.

I wasn't able to use this deal - I'm so bummed. I saw it on tuesday and tried to book it on my IPAD for three of us for BDL - MCO on 10/22. Previously, the lowest price had been $159. At one point, I had the three passengers and the dates and time selelcted, but then it timed out before I could get all the passenger info in. By the time I got home that night, there were not 3-$80 left - only 1. so SWA and I both loose. SWA because they didn't get my money and I because I ended up booking Delta for the same $80.

I was able to get $80 for by DD return ticket, though.

I wasn't able to get in on this deal. Neither of the days that we are traveling had any of these fares and it was within the time parameter. I really want to score one more ticket at least at the price I paid for it before it went up $100 rt.

Because of the SWA deal we were able to extend our stay in Sept. from 7 days to 9 days.:thumbsup2

UPdated: Now I'm bummed even more. I just checked and today I could have gotten my 10/22 flights for $99 on SWA. But since I already have Delta, I have to stick with Delta. Granted they're $19 less per ticket, but baggage fees and possible changes to flight times might not make it worthwhile.

So to summarize, flights on 10/22 BDL-MCO that were $139 when they first came out, were at $159 for most of the late spring, were only at $80 briefly at the last sale before going to $197, were today at $99. I know oil prices fluctuate a lot, but I think it's all supply and demand economics that drives these things.
