Southern Living at Home- Should I?

Ok- I just went to one of these "meetings" to see about doing this whole Southern Living at Home party consulting stuff. Does anyone or has anyone done this before? I would feel overwhelmed if I had to do 4-6 parties a month, since I teach full time and have 3 kids. But they said that was average for each consultant.

I don't want to invest in the kit, if this is actually more work than I need right now. I wouldn't have a hard time starting out with 2-3 parties, since a few friends said they would do a party for me...but could I keep that up?

I need advice!

IMHO, no. I mean, the kits for these companies are usually well worth the money and it can't hurt to try. But, it is a lot of work to make good money at this. I was a Pampered Chef consultant for a couple years, but not a great one. I just didn't have the time for all the customer care calls and to well-prepare for my shows.

Basically, you have to start with those 2-3 friends and then book a bunch of parties from their guests. You have to call them and set up the date, then make sure they have their act together and do the party. Submit the party, follow-up, yada-yada. Have a good show, and it is well worth every hour spent. Have a not-so-good show, and you aren't even making minimum wage. I think that the most successful have the time and motivation to keep going and going and calling and calling.

I too would say no, since you have a full time job already and 3 kids. But the starter kit is really reasonable and would get you a lot of Southern Living goodies. I want the starter kit just not the job that goes along with it!

My thoughts, too. DH says to go for it, If I want to try it. But, I have found many of these items on Ebay for cheaper prices- but..what would $250 get me at Target, Ross, or TJ Maxx, etc. ALOT- I am sure. That is why I wanted the kit..for MY decorations. If I had to pull them off the walls and such all the time for parties, I wouldn't be decorating my own home!
So, I think I have talked myself out of it. Just no time to deal with it right now.

Thanks! :)

Too funny!! I just signed up this morning to be a consultant, and I have **ZERO** desire to be a consultant!!

I just wanted all the SLAH goodies that came in the starter kit. Plus, if you sign up in March/April, you get everything that is on the Spring catalog cover as well.

I never could have gotten all that stuff for $200.

I am all about the goodies, but I don't plan to work! :teeth:

How funny - I just signed up too - again, just to get the kit. I had planned to sign up in January, and my consultant emailed me to wait because she knew this promotion was coming out. I do plan on doing a few parties - but nowhere near 4-6 a month. I'm talking maybe one a month - and that's just because I want to use my profits to buy the products. I'm not in it to make money, just to decorate my house my cheap. I love their products, and if I had done this with Pampered Chef years ago, I could have saved myself so much money. I love Pampered Chef products, but never thought about joining to save money on them until it was too late. Didn't want to make that same mistake twice. :teeth:

Precisely! :thumbsup2

And have you seen the access to the "discontinued items"? Lots of great deals to be had there!

Can't answer that for you but I'm going to a party tonight. I've never been to one but am looking forward to it.
