There are 3 cruises leaving from San Juan heading to the Southern Caribbean in January 2018 (Along with a handful of cruises to/from San Juan).

Puerto Rico was Clobbered. Antigua's sister island (Barbuda) was flattened. St. Kitts was also in the bulls-eye of Hurricane Irma.

And Jose is lined up to do some follow up damage in the path of Irma.

So ... do you think that DCL will still send the Wonder to San Juan for January.

1) There are reports saying parts of Puerto Rico will be without power for many months.

2) I am pretty sure that St. Kitts and Antigua sustained lots of damage. St. Lucia and Martinique quite likely sustain some damage.

Thanks for your thought!

Everything I heard about PR was that San Juan was not that damaged. Other parts of the island that are more remote have problems, but everything that I've heard and seen is that it was not nearly as bad as anticipated on PR and in San Juan.

San Juan will be open for business by January, guaranteed.

Most of the ports will be doing their best to be as well. Tourism money is essential. As I've said elsewhere: Insurance, where it is in play, helps rebuild. It doesn't buy next week's groceries. For many people, the longer tourism is down, the longer they are without income.

The way all these hurricanes keep poring in. It's going to end up a week at sea at this rate

I have friends in PR and they are fine and have gotten power back. They said it wasn't as bad as they were expecting. Thank Goodness for that. In San Juan things are open and functioning at least partially.

We ate at Oceano Restaurant right on the beach back in April before our Southern cruise. They sent an email yesterday that they were opening for dinner, I was so happy to hear that......

So I hope that the resort areas can be up and moving soon, tourism there a big part of their livelihood

Puerto Rico wasn't hit bad. I checked the hotel we will be staying in next January and they had power immediately after the hurricane passed. Aruba and Bonaire were no where near the hurricane. Antigua was not hit as hard as they were expecting. St. Lucia, I haven't heard anything about. These are the ports for our cruise so I feel like we are good to go unless another hurricane hits. The Eastern cruises are the ones that are very questionable when they will be up and running.

I'm on the January 14th cruise and have been wondering about all of this too. I am less concerned about my trip than about the people and places that we are supposed to be visiting. I have been through enough hurricanes to have a great deal of sympathy for all that they are going through. I hope for the economic improvement of these islands, that our trip doesn't change. It just seems like a double whammy to lose so much and then lose the income from the tourism that they count on. Who knows if they will have the capacity by January to handle the tourists though. It's just sad. I sure hope Jose spares them.
