Southern California Annual Pass?

My godson is going to Disneyland July 17th with his family. It's a date that is normally restricted for the SC AP. If he pays regular admission, can he then update to a SC AP for the price difference? Is there any "penalty" fee attached? I think it's a bad day to go, expecting anniversary crowds, but they are intent on going. Thanks for any info!

Yes, you can get an annual pass after purchasing a regular pass. The AP center will use the value of the regular pass to discount the amount you would have to pay for the SC AP. Assuming your godson pays the regular $59 one-day one-park pass, he would only have to pay an additional $60 for the SoCal Select AP or $90 for the SoCal AP. I went through this myself last year, and it was a smooth process.

There should be no problem upgrading even though it's a blockout day.

Somewhat of a follow up question: can you upgrade an AP more than once? When I bought APs for my girlfriend and I, I got a premium for myself, and only the so cal select for her. She only wanted the so cal select to begin with because she wasn't sure if she'd use a premium often enough to justify the price. After going the first day, she knows she wants to upgrade, but she's not sure if she wants the deluxe of premium. So, could we go on a blackout day, pay the $30 ticket price, and apply that $30 to the price difference between the so cal select and deluxe, and then in the future, if we decide to, upgrade again from deluxe to premium?

Yes you can do the additional upgrades. The only thing you can't do with the SoCal AP's is extend the expiration dates. You can upgrade to either the Deluxe or Premium Pass. If you choose the Deluxe, you can still upgrade later to a premium AP. You can use a blockout day ticket, if you choose, as credit toward your new level of AP any time you upgrade your Annual Pass. (Must be upgraded on the same day you use your blackout ticket)

Whoo hoo! Enjoy the parks!

Thanks for the confirmation Califgirl. We'll most likely eventually upgrade her's to premium, and although it'll end up being the same price, its easier on our minds splitting the upgrade costs between 2 trips instead of just one.
