Southeast Coast Storm?

Forecasters forecast 10 days out because they have to. There are some places in the country where there is more than a 50/50 chance that they will be right .... Florida is not one of them. Sandwiched between the ocean and the gulf in the subtropics, there is no scientific way known to man yet to predict what the weather will be in Orlando next week. Even if there were a Cat 5 hurricane forming off the coast of Africa right now, there is no way to tell where or if it will hit the states.
If you want to hedge your bets, assume it will rain every day and then you'll be thrilled when it doesn't.

I always take either a poncho or an umbrella to the parks, even if the skies are a bright blue and they are saying 0 chance of rain. I've learned it's Florida, a pop up shower is never out of the question. I just throw one in my bag or my shorts pocket and go about my fun. I'll be there the same time as OP with my DS and DIL. They just moved back down to Georgia from the Chicago area so I imagine they are going to melt, me not so much.

Last June we arrived the same day that a tropical storm hit. I remember watching the news on our first night there and they forecasted heavy rain the entire week. It rained pretty heavy our first day and in the morning of our second day. By day three it cleared and we saw sun the whole rest of the week. So don't get too worked up over the forecast.
Also, on the day that we got a decent amount of rain we went to MK anyway. Slept in, got to the park late morning and walked onto most rides. I think the only FP we needed was for Space Mtn. We defintely got pretty wet but had an awesome day.

I wouldn't worry about that storm at all. If you were going to Miami or somewhere else on the East coast, possibly. But if you are affected while you're in Orlando, it won't be significant.

And as others have said, don't judge the weather until about 1-2 days out. Best bet is to prepare for every day to be hot and humid, but pack a windbreaker, or a poncho if you prefer those unsightly things lol

One other thing to add...
On weather.com if you click on the day of interest, you can get more detail...

For instance for May 12, it says: Sunny in the morning, thunderstorms developing later in the day"

I think that the weather people could put that same forecast up for Orlando all summer!

I will be down there May 11-16 and while I don't want it to rain all week, I am probably the only person who gets disappointed that it is supposed to be 90+ degrees all week! I start melting at about 85. :sunny::sunny:

Same here! I'll be there, May 10th-12 and saw the temps, and just pictured myself melting and cranky. I did check today and saw rain forecasted for Monday and Tuesday and I'm hoping we actually do get some rain or at least be cloudy to help shield from the beating sun.

we arrive on the 13th (driving down the night of the 12th) - checking the weather isn't even on my radar yet - I'll look at it the morning we leave or perhaps that day. Based on experience it will be hot, hot, hot with a side of humidity. chances of rain everyday - we come equipped with Disney ponchos in the car :-)

personally I welcome bucketing rain right before or at RD - lessens the crowds dramatically! Although if the weather fates are listening I'd really prefer little to no rain during SWW as DD will be dressed as a Jedi :-)

The forecast is calling for PM thunderstorms. Which is the typical thing for this time of year. Take rain gear for the days, have fun when you can and when it rains, put on the gear and just go with the flow.

The one thing humans cannot stop or avoid is Mother Nature. The one thing humans can do is enjoy a vacation. To take a case in point for the vacation you re having? My granddaughter's first prom (and probably only prom) had to be delayed and put into a new location because of a stupid person's stupid prank. BUT, she had a great time, had a lot of laughs, and tons of pictures of her and her friends. And that's all you need to think about. Goods times, lot of laughs, and tons of memories. And last time I checked, rain dries and/or washes off.

Wait a few days and check again. Of course it's pretty common for there to be some rain in Florida. There could be thunderstorms even without a tropical system.

I've been in WDW during a hurricane.....you'll be fine! We were one of the last flights to arrive that day...5 hrs later, Hurricane Charley arrived. But, with that in mind......it's a very unusual storm that affects WDW. Yes, you may very well get a lot of wind and rain, but you can still have a great time. That's the chance we take going there from May to Nov. I always expect rain at this time of year. I'm heading down on May 17th...I have 15 disposable ponchos ready to be packed for the three of us!! Wear water proof shoes and we're good to go!!!!

Thank you goofy4tink. I was hoping the April showers would bring May flowers and lots of sunshine, but I rather be in WDW in the rain than at home in the rain anytime. :)

I like the way you think LaurenT. :)

My son is looking forward to SWW; one of the main reasons we are making this trip this particular week. We usually go in late August or September, so it's not my first time dealing with rain. I agree about it lessening the crowds, so there is a positive side to the rain. Thanks!

I'm glad your daughter had a wonderful time despite some obstacles. You have some excellent points. Thank you.

You have to remember a few other things, if you absolutely have to check the weather look at something like www.accuweather.com the day before and put in Lake Buena Vista. WDW is not in Orlando. Also it could be pouring cats and dogs and frogs and horses :jester: in MK and not a drop in DHS. It's a BIG place people.

Thank you. I didn't realize you click on the future days for more details about the day. You are right about Orlando weather - lol.

Hey Mickey1968, I'm from Oklahoma , but moved to Shreveport, LA a year ago! I hope you're safe from the storms in the OKC area. My 2 daughters live in that area and are in shelters right now. Stay safe

Also, I just looked back and now they are reporting Mostly Sunny for May 13, so I guess the PPs are right just wait a while and it will change!

I saw this! I'm a true believer now in not looking at the weather until the day before or maybe even the day of - lol.

Thanks, scanmom, I work on campus at OU and we went into the basement in one of the buildings for a while. Crowded but nice and dry and equipped with wifi. So far my house has proven to be in the "sweet spot" that the storms seem to miss.

I should probably divert some Disney funds toward a storm shelter this next year. Hope your family rode it out okay.
