Southeast airlines gone bust

It is very strange. Not that I doubt you all, but when I go to flyseal.com I don't get anything about them ceasing flights to sanford. It is STILL (orlando/sanford) coming up as a choice!

I just printed the page that says they are no longer in exsistance. I called the airport where I live! They are GONE. The last flight left at midnite last nite. The guy said they came in this AM and planes and all there stuff was gone....fly by niters!

I dont understand either. I think someone ran off with our money. Maybe after we breathe a bit we will see whats gonna happen. I will be on the phone too at 5 AM...IF they are even there. I am sure there will be many angry folks!!!!

I hate to say it tho--they are gone. I just pulled up flyseal and printed the message. We are gonna need this as we fight for our money.

We are all in this together. I have called the FAA complaint division--waiting on them to call me back. I am trying to see where we stand. Becuz I used a debit card too I was told the same as these others....cant gaurentee a thing. ARGHHH!

Stacy

Stacey, (and of cause everyone else that had plans to go via Southeast) I just want to say how sorry I am for you. I will say a little prayer and send some pixie dust that it all works out. Is there anyway you could drive? I know, it is not our first choice either but....

We have family in the Pocono's and have used the Allentown airport to fly to Florida at least 3 or 4 times, we loved it. The flights were always full and the service great. This is all so very sad for everyone.

I'm very sorry to all of you that this has happened to...we flew SE last Christmas and they were great....but I'd like to point out an important comment that Magicalmoments said....

I called my cc and since I used a debit/visa kind of card I probably wont see any money from them.

This is why you should always always always use a CC for large purchases...you never know what may happen and it is your only way to get money back....

Again...my hearts reallly feel for those of you that find yourself stranded....

THANK YOU all for your ears and shoulders! Some people dont/cant get a cc tho. I thought I would get the same backing since its billed like a visa.

What a lesson to learn :(
I dont have a cc to use tho so I am not sure what I would do then.

Thanks, Stacy

As long as your debit card has a VISA/MC logo on it, and the transaction was executed like a credit card (where you don't give a pin number anywhere) you are covered by VISA/MC's zero liability policy. http://www.usa.visa.com/personal/security/zero_liability.html

However, you do need to contact your bank/debit card issuer immediately and file a transaction dispute so that they are aware. Now banks do have 30 days to investigate and they have to give at least 30 days to the company you're disputing to verify/not verify the dispute.

Given that SE left you in a lurch, maybe you can talk to the bank and see if they can expedite the refund of your money faster. Bring all the paperwork you have: paid ticket confirmation, print out of SE's statement, any kind of ammunition you can get.

Good luck, and I'm sorry this happened to all of you.

Had reservations on Southeast out of Allentown on 12/05, returning on 12/13.

Immediately jumped on Orbitz, got direct flight out of Philadelphia International for same dates at $230.00 per ticket. We have to drive a little further, but at least we got seats! The available ones were disappearing while I was on the site.

Paid for the original tickets with my Wachovia Visa Debit Card. Wachovia has been really good, told me to fax all pertinent info and can expect a refund within 3 - 5 business days.

I hope everyone else has similar luck. I literally almost popped a blood vessel when I heard the news about Southeast. That was the second time this year that an airline we reserved for this trip went belly up (Vacation Express stopped all flights out of Wilkes Barre / Scranton this past August )

Oy Vey!

For my dates they are all gone..or so high in price. I have been on to this since about 9 AM this morning. I have been on the phone all day---wore out 2 full batterys on my cordless.

Maybe this is an omen....lol

What happened with Vacation express with the ones who had tix already...do u know? I called WNEP today and Sherman is gonna call me back...lol

Have u ever driven Kevin---your not far from me?

Stacy

I never drove that far. My wife's family used to drive every year when she was young (from NE PA).

We had reservations through Vacation Express but they didn't charge our credit card prior to ending service so we didn't lose any money.

I think if you break the trip into 2 days by car you'll be OK.

Have you considered Amtrak?

I am one affected by this :(

Airtran gave me a quote out of Philly for $1866! I am sick. I cant believe it. I dont know what to do. Can someone offer me any words of wisdom or advice?

Thanks a bunch,
Stacy

Good luck and I hope you get a refund for your Southeast tickets. I tried to find something reasonable for you but could not.

You guys have all been so nice and helpful through all this. I can't express how much I appreciate the info. We'll just buy more tickets and hope we get our money back. It just sucks that they did this, what makes me mad is that I didn't buy our tickets until Monday and the money came out yesterday. But I filed my complaint with the bank and we'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you very much,
Christine

OMG...I think I'm going to cry. I didn't hear about this. My parents have tickets with this company for 10 days from now...and I don't think they have any idea about this! OMG, OMG, OMG...what are we going to do?

I feel so sick right now I can't even believe it...better send my mom a heads up....

UPDATE-
I don't know if my parents know yet...but apparently they have plenty of affordable flight options for their dates and I know it won't be too much of a budget issue for them right now to be out the cost of the other tickets...so I've stopped my panic attack. I'll talk to my mom in the morning. They were going to be flying out of ABE to Sanford. This might make the airport pickup a bit easier on us though...if they come into MCO! There's even a chance they'll beat us to FL now since we're driving from SC. Looking at my email sent folder I know my mom will get home from work in the morning to find quite an interesting inbox!

Check independence air. www.flyi.com

I just checked your departure date and they have a direct flight for $39.00. I put the 28th in for a return and it also was $39.00

Thanks, disneyjunkie...actually if my parents were here we'd probably all just drive together...they're in PA, flying out of ABE. I have checked orbitz and travelocity and they have some good options and not too few either.

I did look at flyi for us....but since we want to have our van with us and there are 4 of us who would need tickets we're still better off driving. I'm waiting for independence to fly to ABE or Philly reasonably so I can avoid driving to PA alone with 3 kids!

Thanks again...I was shocked to see this thread and just about lost it...I was only over here on the transporation board to ask a rather mundane question.

We fly out of Avoco tomorrow on USair. I was looking at SEAL but decided on USair. I booked the flights about 24 hours before USair announced it bankruptcy filing and that sent me into a panic. I've been trying to keep myself up to date on USair's labor negotiations and potential strike.

We flew in and out of Sanford on Vacation Express two weeks before it closed operations in NEPA and that was a nail biter.

I'm feel awful for everyone that is waking up to a planning nightmare. :sad1:

The website has posted the bank info. If you paid by debit or cash call the bank on www.seal.com The money should still be in the escrow account and you should get it eventually! (And if your bank won't work with you, have you considered another bank?)

II called my cc and since I used a debit/visa kind of card I probably wont see any money from them. What do I do? I checked into rebooking thru some others and found the price so high--$1220 was the cheapest for 4 of us flying out of Newark, which is a 2 hour ride for us at least.

Stacy,

I'm so sorry this has happended to you and everyone else! I am flying ATA and I have been a little worried about this kind of thing.

Did you buy your airfare? JetBlue appears to have availability out of JFK on your dates for $215 per ticket.

Good luck!

Airtran....I called them at the advice of my local airport who said AIRTRAN contacted them about assisting SE customers. This is only for stand by like today and in the next few days. Anyone traveling after that pays regular fare. They will not honor SE tickets, or discount them.

Stacy
PS: Who is in the same boat from PA!

I am in the same boat as you are. We were to leave on the 11th. and come back on the 19th. We are on the NJ and PA border about 35 minutes from Allentown. I just made reservations to go from Newark NJ which is about an hour from us. The round trip is $175.00 per person. I don"t know how far you are from NJ but maybe this would be an option for you. I am getting a runaround from my credit card company,Mastercard. They filed it under a dispute and said they cannot issue a chargeback, Southeast must issue a credit. They said the customer cannot just tell the credit card company to charge it back to Southeast. What a pain this is!
