Southampton to LHR - earliest flights

Hey all,

It’s looking like I have to take a work trip right after we disembark from the Disney Fantasy in August, flying from LHR to ZUR.

My DH & kids are all set for returning home - their flight is 2:40pm LHR back, which is after Disney’s recommended time of flights departing after 2:15pm.

However, I see a flight at 1:45pm departing for ZUR. I know it’s before Disney’s recommended time, but is it really too early or could I make this flight? Does anyone have experience with the Disney cruise out of Southampton and what time you arrive at the airport? We have first dining. I haven’t booked return transfers yet and was planning on taking Disney transportation, but I’m not opposed to doing private transfers if that would help.

The next flight after 1:45pm seems to be 3:20pm which would be safer, but I really don’t want to be sitting in the airport all day if, for example, I’m likely arrive by 11am or so. But if 1:45pm is cutting it close, I’ll take the later flight.

Yes that should be fine. However there are a few things to double check.

  1. How are you getting from the ship to Heathrow
  2. What terminal at Heathrow your flight to ZUR is departing from
  3. What airline is your flight to ZUR with
  4. Check both carry on and checked bag allowances for the ZUR flight, as short haul European flights are very different to transatlantic long haul flights
  5. Make sure you know the check in policy for the ZUR flight

Do you mean ZRH - Zurich? Should be fine but Terminal 5 is the furthest and might be the last drop off. It was the last pickup going FROM LHR to the Port.

I'm in a similar situation except we are sailing on Princess. Their is a non-stop flight LHR-PHL at 1:30pm. We can book it as a RT American Airlines flight with the return leg operated by BA. This means we can't choose seats until check in 24 hours prior which would be during our Normandy excursion. Not ideal but doable. I don't have a lot of spare vacation days to take off after we get home and I need at least a day to unpack and recover before returning to work.

We are currently booked with Princess transfers but I don't mind switching to private transfers to expedite getting to our gate on time.

But the OP isn't necessarily flying out of T5. Swiss, for example, is T2.

OP - like, Girl, I assume you mean Zurich (ZRH). Are you checking all airline options or sticking with one? If sticking with one, you might want to expand your search as there might be better times.

I'd probably risk the earlier time, especially since there are later flights you could get on if needed (though possibly won't be moved for free) or even, if desperate, fly into Geneva or Basel and take the train.

Our flight right now is 245 pm out of LHR back to the states. I keep wondering if I should change it?
Should we do express walk off to DCL transfer? Or book private transportation? Thank you

Sorry, yes, I meant ZHR!

I did expand my search, but in some cases there’s a significant price jump and in many there seems to be this gap of time of flight departures as well.

This sounds like I should do private transfers then?

Disney recommends flights out of Heathrow no earlier than 2:15 pm, so you should be fine with a 2:45 pm flight taking DCL transportation. My husband and I took a Disney bus after the 2nd breakfast seating and were at the airport in plenty of time for a 3:35 pm flight.
