South Beach Dieters......... Unite

I am checking labels like a fiend in the store and so much stuff has sugar in it or as the FIRST ingredient. Terrible. So, I guess I will start making my own bbq sauce and ketchup etc! Anyway, I am just starting Phase 2 so I need to just stick with the program, but it is amazing how sugar is in everything! :guilty:

calena, isn't it terrible!!! I found that out very quickly myself. WHo knew that all those foods we loved so much contained sugar.

Well all, I'm off. I leave tonight!!!! Two weeeks in california. I'm not taking my laptop this time, I just want to relax...........................

Just finished my first week of the South Beach Diet. 6 lbs. lost and 1 inch each from my waist and thighs!

No huge cravings, just trying to get all of the veggies in. I love the peanutbutter, fudgsicle, cool whip dessert.

Hey, all
Just thought I would let you know that in our local paper in the coupon flyers, there are coupons for SBD products. (And here I just bought some stuff yesterday. Oh well, I can still use them.)

Welcome Edie ! Sounds like a great first week ....keep it up !

Anyone have experience with the SB meal replacement bars? Are they good? Are they ok for phase 1? I'm thinking about buying some to eat for breakfast while I travel next week.

I've been pedaling my little heart out, but have been much more off program than on. Don't know what my problem is!
:confused3

They are quite good but no they are not ok for ph 1. In fact, in my early days here of ph 2, I am not too sure how appropriate they are. Seem a little too carb based even though they do have protein in them. My on the go breakfast is two string cheese and a bottle of V8.

DH and I are reading the book and decided to start next week. We have a beach trip scheduled for mid-August, so I would love to lose 10-15 pounds before we go! I have done Atkins before, and it worked very well for me so I have no doubt this will work also.

I am in the process of reading this thread, so I apologize if this has been asked before, but what options are there for Phase 1 breakfast other than eggs? I have a really weird thing about eggs - I love them but I cannot stand to cook them. :confused3 Something about the smell and sight of them cooking makes me nauseous. So I am thinking I could boil them, but that might get old after a few days. Any suggestions?

Cyndirella - I'm not sure what other typical breakfast type food to recommend, but if there are foods that are on plan that aren't what you would normally think of for breakfast but that you can handle in the morning that is an option for an alternative to the egg breakfast....

Breakfast ideas -- I would eat cottage cheese with cucumbers and tomatoes sometimes for breakfast, maybe with a slice of lean turkey breast thrown in.
I think the idea of the cheese strings and V-8 sounds great. Maybe a few almonds too.

I am just new in Phase 2 and I was on the go last night so I had a wrap (whole wheat) at Mr. Sub. This morning I feel like I am retaining water like nuts. So, I am drinking water like nuts to flush it out. :confused3 So - my lesson is I need to SLOOOOOOOW down as I introduce other stuff to my diet. Back to just introducing fruit slowly for now.

DH and I just started South Beach last week. We have a long way to go - we are both hoping to shed about 70 pounds or so. I may continue depending on how I feel after dropping the 70. He has dropped about 12 pounds so far and depending on the time of day taht I weight myself I am doen 8-10.

We are following more of a combo of Atkins/South Beach, following the healthier rules or South Beach, but we both agreed we just couldn't give up cheeseburgers, even if they are without the bun ;) So far, so good. We are having much success and I think that is the greatest motivation with any diet, watching the scale go down and your clothes get looser.

Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!

Welcome to all the newbies! Pull up a chair and join us on the beach. South Beach for me has been a life change not really a diet. I choose different foods than before, and I rarely feel deprived. While my weight loss has been slow, I have been able to keep the weight off, and I feel better. I also did not have to give up my Starbucks.

Have a great day everyone! :flower:

I feel much less bloated today. I am just so shocked that wrap did this to me. I don't know if the meat was salty or the wrap (whole wheat) had too many bad carbs or I ate it too late or what hapenned... :confused3 So, I drank lots of water yesterday. Worked out. Ate well. Feel better today. Sticking to the Beach!

Thanks for the breakfast ideas - I can do the string cheese and V-8, and maybe boiled eggs for a little variety. Also maybe something with cottage cheese.

I am planning a menu for next week and starting on Monday. I am excited about this! I wil have 7 weeks before our vacation - is 10-15 lbs a reasonable goal?

DH took us out for supper last night and all my choices were not totally South Beach friendly, but I figure I am on a journey, so... ;) Anyway, I ordered dessert and could not eat it. It was too sweet. So DS, 8, ate it. Good to have hungry boys at the table at all time. It was sort of strange. I guess my taste buds and body are changing after 3 1/2 weeks on South Beach. I still feel overall I am making better food choices and that pleases me. I am also aware of what not to choose (even if I did order dessert which would not have passed muster) and that helps. Onward with the journey. Today is the Sunday School picnic so I am taking a large yummy salad! It is also strawberry season here and I am enjoying the fresh berries. Just berries. No ice cream, no sugar and they taste wonderful!

Great going Calena !!

I'm going to be visiting family starting Thursday and my sister sent me a note to see if there's anything special I wanted - I thought that was nice of her being so supportive. Really the only request I had was for an on-plan breakfast cereal and diet soda. Other than that I've learned to pretty much work around whatever is on the menu and just choose what's right for me.....

Hi all
Good to see so many new people around here. Everything is going OK around here. Saturday night I went to to The Living Word Outdoor Drama a passion play on the life of christ in Cambridge, OH for the first time this season where I play King Herod as well as general crowd for the crowd scenes. I grabbed the general costume that I normally wore and it would almost go around me twice. My King Herod Costume is also big but with some cleaver work the extra fabric looks like pleats in the royal robes. There were several people there that han't seen me since September and they were shocked at the change.

I'm still not losing much weight but I'm not gaining any either. If I end up staying at this weight for a while that's OK though. Being able to maintain what weight loss I do have is just important as losing the weight. I am probably eating food that should be eaten rarely more than I should. My brother who started a month before I did has pretty much officially moved to phase 3 for the summer even though he's not at his goal weight either. We both completed our first major goal of getting out the big men's sizes.

I bought a new bike last week. My niece and nephew were here and wanted to ride. I tried borrowing one from my aunt by her's were both old and needed major repairs. I bought a cheap one from Wal-Mart $60 plus tax. I didn't buy the cheapest model because I thought I wanted to get one with shocks. The bike works well but I think I am going to get a new seat sometime. We rode 3 miles Thursday and 5 miles Friday.

You have done so well Jeremy. That is amazing that your costume was so much bigger than what you need. Congrats! I love these inspirational stories. They help me keep going! How much weight have you lost total on South Beach?

Hi, Celena
As near as I can figure I've lost about 107 lbs. My starting weight was about 375lbs. I don't know exactly because I had to order a special scale and had been on SBD 2 weeks before I could weigh myself. That's when I also started WISH. I used my weight loss the next week to figure back to the beginning. I am currently bouncing between 268lbs and 270lbs. I lost most of that weight in the first several months. I was losing between 15 and 20lbs a month for 4 months from September till December. It then slowed down to about 10lb a month in January, February and March. Then down to 5lb a month in April and May, and now almost nothing in June. My final goal is probably somewhere between 225 and 235 so I still have a good 40lbs to go. I know I will probably need to shake things up sometime but I'm not sure when I want to start that.

I was also shocked when I held my costume up in front of me and wrapped it around and it almost touched in the back. I've told myself when I get my 100lbs clippie I would post some pictures and I'll try to find some of me in my costume.
