South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Well for some reason the scale was not evil this week .... I was down 3 lbs!!!
That gets me to a 15 lb total loss so far :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
I walked out of that gym smiling ! :sunny:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: WTG Sandy. The weight is coming off!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, Day 13, almost done Phase 1, and as of today's weigh in I have lost 11 lbs. :cool1: :cool1:
I did have to buy some sugar free chocolate, just for those once a month cravings, you know. It tasted gross, so I doubt I will eat many of them. I will get some dark chocoate for next week.

So 9 lbs to my goal, but I think I may stay on Phase 2 for an additional 5 after I meet goal. That would be awesome. But I am still saying goal in 9 lbs.
Its soooooo close. :cheer2:

Way to go on your loss, Sandy. Keep it up.

Lisa, just a 1/2 lb! Wow! Congrats on the almost 100 mark. You are amazing.

And thank you Sheree for the continued support and shining example.

Have a great weekend Beachers. :goodvibes

How nice to come to our thread and see all the losers!

Sandy - congratulations on your 3 pound loss. That is just great!

Melissa - woohoo on your 11 pounds! We're so proud of you!

I'm checking in on the 7th day of Oprah's challenge and I'm thrilled to report that I have lost 6 pounds this week which brings my total weight loss to 101 pounds. I'm in the 100 pound club! Woohoo!! South Beach is just awesome and it fits so well with Oprah's eating program. It's just like being on Phase 1, except with her plan, you stay here without the grains for a whole month. Tomorrow starts week 2. I have 28.5 pounds to go to get to goal. Thanks guys, so much for your supporting me every step of this journey.

Btw, I went to the Cheesecake Factory with a girlfriend I haven't seen in 10 years (she almost didn't recognize me) and had a good meal. I was afraid I wouldn't find too much there to eat or worse yet be tempted by all the decadent high carb food but I had the chicken salad on those big leafy greens and was able to roll them up with the chicken salad. Plus it came with field greens in a vinigrette dressing. Very good. Then for dessert I had their awesome, better than even Ruby Tuesday's, low carb cheesecake. The crust was so good, I stopped eating it because I thought it was made from graham crackers. The waitress checked for me and assured me it was okay to eat as it was made from walnuts. They also had a side of "glazed" strawberries sweetened with splenda and to top it off they had whipped cream made with splenda. Can you say low carb heaven? Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. It's high in calories though at 610 calories but I ate half yesterday and half today to spread the calories out a bit. Enjoy if you get a chance to try it!

Lisa, wtg. All you needed was to kick it up a little and now you are back on track :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Sandy & Melissa, congrats on the weight loss!!!!

Lisa, you make all of us so proud. Keep up the good work! :sunny:

Lisa, what an awesome new clippie!!!!! :cool1: Whoo Hooo!!! I am so proud of you. Keep it up, you are so close.
I am happy to say I am in Phase 2, but I think I will probably keep my whole grains low. I am allowing myself a lowfat yogurt now and then, and some fruit, mostly berries. I stocked up today at the store on lots of good food choices. I am telling you, keeping veggies sliced up in containers is so helpful!
I will weigh in later and maybe measure. It sure feels good to be back on the right track! :cheer2:

Melissa, thanks for the tip of keeping cut-up veggies. I need to do this!!!

I had a couple of good experiences over the weekend......I can't wear a pair of my jeans anymore because they're too big ! (and I'm almost comfortable in the next size down ones I have in my closet ) Also saw some people yesterday at a party I haven't seen since November so I got a lot of compliments ...... gives you the energy to keep on pushing !

Sheila,
I put them in those Gladware containers with water. They stay fresh forever that way. Just a hint, I put in a couple of slices of lemon with the brocolli and cauliflower. Boy, that stuff can get stinky if you don't. :rotfl:
Hope it helps. I know it makes eating right much easier for me. Add a little low carb dip and Voila!

Sandy, congrats on having those jeans that are too big!! Whoo Hoo!

Melissa, thanks for the tip!

Melissa - It is OK to go slowly into phase 2. The important thing is that you are moving out of phase 1. I stayed in Phase 1 an extra week because I cheated more than I should the first week (I call it a transition week, couldn't go cold turkey all at once). Once I left phase 1 though I went to what I call Phase 1 1/4 and had only 1 fruit OR grain during the day. And it took almost 2 months before I felt I was firmly in phase 2. I still don't eat many grains only one to one and a half serving a day either oatmeal in the morning or 100% whole wheat bread (2 thin cut slices 1 1/2 servings)sometime during the day. I am up though to 2 to 3 servings of fruit. I don't really limit the amount of fruit I eat I just watch the time of day. I do better eating it later in the day so I don't eat it for breakfast. That is one thing going slow does it let's you figure out what's going on with your body.

Thanks Jeremy. I think I will go with the Phase 1 1/4 deal too. I have had fruit so far but no whole grain, although I did buy some tortillas. I have had a little red wine, some berries, and a light n fit smoothie. Is it just me or do any of you find you can't eat some things now? Wine did not sit well. I felt really sick. Don't know why. And the smoothie had splenda and tasted WAY too sweet. The berries, however, were perfect. I honestly do not feel like sugar agrees with me now. Maybe its because I finally did a cheat free Phase 1, but I just don't have the sweet tooth. Or maybe its all the veggies I eat now. Anybody else get this way???
Anyhow, it should help the weight stay off.

Melissa - I wouldn't go so far as "can't eat it", but I used to eat a plateful of pasta and think nothing of it.....last week I made one serving of whole wheat pasta (MUCH less than the servings I used to make for myself) and even the one serving seemed like a lot ..... I'm finding that I don't miss the potatoes and pasta as much as I thought I would.....haven't had the reaction to sugar that you have though....I'm enjoying my glass of wine once in a while now!
I think as others have said, it's discovering what works and what doesn't for your body and following it !

Good afternoon Beachers,

I'm checking in with you all. Things are going well and I don't hate Phase 1 (modified for Oprah's challenge) as much as I thought I would.

I'm wearing a skirt today that was so tight when I first bought it, my DH looked at me like I was insane. I told him I wouldn't wear it until it was comfortable. I was able to wear it a few times with the add of some undergarment support but I felt like that was cheating. Today it went on perfectly and I'm proudly wearing it. Don't you just love that feeling?

I hope you all have a wonderful afternoon and I'll check back soon.

Lisa, congrats!!!! How wonderful for you.

Melissa, I did a phase 1/2 on phase 2 also. I didn't incorporate much into my diet. I really added more grains the closer I got to goal. That way my body could adjust and I could still lose weight.

I'm so glad everyone is doing so well. Keep up the good work.

Howdy, everyone! Boy, you get tied up in your life for ONE lousy week and all kinds of exciting things happen while you're away from WISH!!

I hardly know where to start, so much has been going on here at the Beach!

Welcome back, Lisa! That is one fabulous clippie you're sporting there, sunshine! I'm so happy for you, and so pleased to see your high spirits radiating from your posts! Keep up the FABULOUS work -- you're smokin'!

Big congrats to everyone who's melting away there! It's so terrific to see so many happy losers!

Melissa, it's not just you! One of the best things about South Beach is how it changes your tastes. I used to have the biggest sweet tooth in the Western world, but I quickly got to the point that not only did I not crave the things that I used to devour with a bloodlust, I was even a little sickened at the thought of them. When I had strawberries for the first time after the first phase (of Atkins, actually, but the first phases are almost identical), I was blown away by the sweetness and flavor of them.

That said, I found myself lately getting urges for pastries everytime I passed the bakery at my supermarket. I was completely puzzled and a bit alarmed, because it has been many, many moons since I felt those cravings. Now, I had just discovered the most marvelous chocolate shop, and had happily bought a number of dark chocolate bars, from which I had been having nibbles every day. Not a lot, but something each day. I checked the wrappers, and found that the cocoa content was much lower than I had assumed -- about 52%, instead of more like 70-80%, and with sugar as the second ingredient! I gave them all to my DH, and over the last couple of days, I've felt the cravings quiet down again. Just to underline what we all know, always read the label!! And don't 'assume,' because we all know what that leads to! :earsboy:

Have a great day on the Beach, everyone!! :sunny:

Hi everyone! I joined Lisa on the Oprah Boot Camp and I hope I have good results like her. I'm also just doing Phase 1 of SB, but am eating one apple a day with peanut butter. I woke up at 4:20 AM and did 32 mins of step aerobics. I think I'm going to try and do this every morning. I'll also continue to do my evening workouts and strength training.

Lisa, you are doing GREAT!!! I'm so proud of you. I can't wait to see new pictures of you. :sunny:
