South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Only posted once before here, but wish I had more! You seem like a great group!

Just wanted to share 38 lbs have been left on "the beach" (so far). Hoping for 60 by October, but will settle for 50 right now. Ultimate goal 100 lbs.

Family went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom this past weekend and boy did it feel good not to ask for a seat belt expander :Pinkbounc That's one goal down! Yippee!!

Best of luck folks.

Good morning fellow Beachers!

thotfulspot - thanks for your kind words of encouragement. It never dawned on me that the 1/2 pound could be muscle. That probably explains why I can fit into the smaller clothes! Congratulations on that beautiful new clippie of yours! Woohoo!!! You do deserve it. I'm down 1 pound but I had no business getting on the scale this morning so I'm not counting it until official weigh in on Sunday but I don't blame you for claiming your new clippie. It's yours and you definitely earned it!! Keep up the great work.

ttichenor - glad to see you posting with us! Stop by often so we can celebrate your progress with you. Congratulations on losing 38 pounds! That is a tremendous accomplishment and you should be so proud of you, we are! I can just imagine how you must have felt not needing a seat belt extender at Six Flags. I didn't need one for the plane for my Disney trip a few weeks ago and did a "booty dance" in my seat to celebrate fitting so comfortably. I'm silly I know. Anyway, congrats to you and I know you'll reach your goal!!!! :)

leanne2255 - I know what you mean about not wanting to spend money on clothes until you get to your goal weight. I'm going to have to check out some more of the resale shops in my area. Fortunately, friends have been giving me things and I had enough stuff in my closet to keep me going. Now that I'm headed into the "regular" sized clothes I definitely need to check out the thrift stores. Good job you're doing! Keep it up!!!

thotfulspot-Congratulations on that new clippie!!!!!!!!!!! It must feel wonderful. You did an excellent job encouraging everyone. I think sometimes we all need to hear kind words

ttichenor- your weight loss is great!!! Thanks for stopping by agian. We love new people and we would love to see you back

Lisa-that darn scale again. Sometimes we just can't stay away from it huh. Well hopefully that pound will still be there on Sunday.

I was hoping that I would lose my last pound before Sunday, but we'll see. I'm having a visit from the bloat fairy. So, the pound is probably gone along with a few more, but I have to wait and see. Funny thing is, when it's gone, I'll be on the scale challenge, I won't even know. That's o.k. I'm looking forward to August 5th, when maybe I'll be in the 130's by then

Have a great day everyone

Good Morning Everyone! Today was weigh in day for me. This was my second week on SB, and I have lost a total of 9.5 lbs on SB, 10.5 on WISH and 14.5 all together. I am so thrilled right now. :hyper: Yesterday, I put on a pair of size 10 jeans that I hadn't been able to fit into for 2 years. I only have one problem, though I did lose a substantial amount of weight in the first two weeks, I barely exercised at all. I think I walked only twice, both weeks combined. I work during the day, usually 7 am to 3 pm as a waitress and I am always pooped when I get home. My feet are always really tired. Does anyone have any suggestions? And getting up any earlier is not an option. :p

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks so much for all your support. :D

Kimmykins-Good Job::yes:: It is exciting to see the weight coming off isn't it. I know you are thrilled.
About the exercise, maybe you could try some later on in the evening. I know people who do the diet without exercise, and they continue to lose weight. However those who do exercise, see it come off a little faster and toning their body along with it. Do what you think is best for your body. Maybe you could get in 3 days a week. Every little bit counts.

Kimmy - my 38 have come off without exercise, but boy do I need it. Weight loss has slowed to a crawl and I need some definite toning. On my next list of goals for this new month! Good luck to you.:rolleyes1

Kimmykins - Congratulations on your weight loss! What a great job you are doing. I probably can't be of much help with the exercise because I get up at 5:30 in the morning to work out during the week. Like you said, I'm just too tired after work for exercising. As Sheree said, maybe after you get home and rest up for a bit you could do some walking around your neighborhood. I have found that finding an exercise routine that I love doing has made all the difference in my motivation to exercise and now I hate to take my 1 self imposed rest day per week. Definitely find something you like to do and I bet you'll find a way to make it happen!

Sheree - I can't wait for a little "discipline" where the scale is concerned once the challenge starts. Counting 30 days from July 5, the challenge ends on August 3, so you can actually weigh yourself August 4 - a full day ealy! Woohoo!!! Thanks for joining the challenge. I'm sure we will both be successful.

ttichenor - what a great job to lose all that weight without exercise. Two of my major goals for this month are to stay off the scale and for the most part, avoid dessert. I'll have to check back on you and see how you're coming with your exercise goal and I'll post how I am doing with my two July goals.

Hi,
I was wondering what is the best excercise to help get slimmer to go along with the diet.
I will post my progress on saturday :p

thanks :teeth:

 Well, that's a question that only you can answer. Lisa and I have found success with the firm. Other's may do walking, or jogging. Some may try weight training. I think that as long as you get moving doing somethin, anything for at least 20-30 minutes 3 to 5 days a week, then you will see results.

Sheree, did I hear you say the FIRM? :teeth:

I say the best work out to go along with your diet is the one that you find the most fun and are motivated to do. I've heard that said for years and just thought it was a bunch of bologna until I found the Firm work outs. They are absolutely great! I work out 6 days per week with the videos and hate to take a rest day. Combining the cardio and weights gives me such an exercise high that lasts throughout the entire day and I just love that feeling. I never EVER thought I'd feel like this about an exercise routine. I make it a priority each morning before I do anything else. It's just that important to me.

I hope you can find a form of execise that motivates you!

WOW! Busy day on the beach today. Kimmykins, Ttichenor & Thotfulspot- Congrats on your losses. :cheer2: I'm always motivated when I see others being successful on SBD.

Re: Exercise- I get up at 4:30am to get in my exercise for the day. That way, it's over and done with. I have found a routine that I like, because I don't get bored. Mon & Fri is the recumbent bike, Tu-Thurs- Bowflex for weight training and Wed is Tae Bo day. If I don't exercise in the am, I feel really guilty and then do it right when I get home from work.

Like Lisa says, you need to find something that motivates you, whatever it may be.

Ok here is my update, I have stayed on Phase 1 for almost 3 weeks and am going to go on to phase 2 today.

Mon 14th June - 186 (start of Phase 1)
Mon 21st June - 181
Sat 26th June - 178
Sat 3rd June - 174 (end of Phase 1)

i have a question... it says in the book that fruit is allowed on phase 2 but doesn't say how much. is it as much as you like?
In the book it also says that fruit juice is not allowed, does this include home made juice with nothing else added??

Thanks

stal, congratulations on the weight loss. You did great.
As far as the fruit goes, I would start off eating just a little at a time, maybe a serving a day. You don't want to start eating to much to fast. If you don't have the companion book (the little handbook), go get it. It does give serving suggestions. For instance, apples, 1 small.

On Monday, 7-5, I will have completed two weeks of SB Phase 1. Last week, I couldn't wait to move onto Phase 2 for a little more variety. Now that it's almost here, I can't decide whether to stay on Phase 1 for one more week or move on. I lost 8.2 pounds the first week, but won't weigh again until the second week is up.

I know most of you are past Phase 1 - what did you do? Stay on Phase 1 longer or move to Phase 2 as soon as you could. Any words of wisdom for moving on?

Thanks!!!

I stayed on Phase one longer. I didn't mind the foods that were available to me, so I knew that I could stick it out.
Now whether or not you should, depends on you. The book says you can stay on longer than two weeks. Just make the decision that's right for you.

BTW, congrats ont he 8 pound weight loss:jumping1:

kimmykins and stal, congratulations!!! Nice job!! Isn't it a blast watching the numbers roll down in Phase 1?

stal, the problem with fruit juice is that in a whole piece of fruit, the sugars are bound up with the fiber and other good things, so you get them all together. In making the juice, you separate out and discard the fiber. Fiber helps to slow the rate of digestion, so the sugars don't create a blood sugar high and then a low. Not only that, you can easily drink the juice of five oranges in a sitting, so the calories and sugars go into you without your noticing it so much. You would be unlikely to eat five whole oranges at one go.

MickeyMagic, good for you!! I can't wait to hear how week 2 has gone for you! I agree, only you can decide if you want to stay on Phase 1 a bit longer. The results are more dramatic then, but it isn't designed to be a healthy long-term way of eating. An extra week or two shouldn't hurt, unless you are itching to get a bit more variety in your diet. I stayed on Phase 1 just for the two weeks, but I had already followed Atkins for a while and I was looking forward to the variety. Boy, I can't believe how excited I was to eat my first bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal and my first low-fat yogurt.

Gosh, I almost forgot. In a few weeks, we are flying to the Land of My Birth(tm) for vacation, and I'm nervous about what to eat. In the past, I've tended to get off track while on vacation due to the when-will-I-ever-eat-this-again syndrome, and I don't want to slip back this time. I've decided that I'm going to allow myself one 'cheat' per week, so that I can weigh every temptation and decide if it's worth being that week's indulgence. I already have the first one lined up -- there's a place there that makes the most amazing pizza, so I'm going to thoroughly enjoy snarfing some down one night.

But as far as daily food goes, what sorts of things do you all like to keep on hand? We'll be in Florida, so the fruits and vegetables are bound to be fresh, and I was thinking of stocking up on a variety of salad items, plus string cheese, low-fat yogurts, low-fat milk, and high-fiber cereals. Am I missing anything from the list? Well, different meats for grilling, of course. I need guidance -- there's a Ben & Jerry's just around the corner from where we'll be staying!

Hey Beachers! I just wanted to post because I think I'll be asking questions soon. I started SB on the 1st. I went to the grocery store today to pick up some veggies and things and there were SO many displays of cakes/cookies/buns/chips for the 4th I almost died! I don't know what weight I have lost yet, but it better be something! I'm also doing yoga or pilates everyday. We're going on vacation the end of the month and I'm hoping to get back into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes!

thotfulspot- When I went on vacation, I didn't really take much with me. I did take some nuts though. I love almonds. Otherwise I just looked for things that were acceptable and ate them. WHat you are taking with you sounds good and plentiful.

ChiTownZee-Welcome. Come back with any questions you may have. You are more than welcomed here.:wave2:
