South Beach Dieters......... Unite

I've been OP for about three weeks now. I've added fruit, but basically I'm staying on Phase One. The vending machine taunts me with Reese's Pieces! While I'd love to have some, I'm honestly not all that sad that I'm not having them. I think it's just an instinct to want them, but I really don't CRAVE them. Plus, I'm hungry, so I'm going down to get my salad now.

My parents got me a b-day cake and I'm going to have a small piece tonight. At least they were nice enough to forego the big Italian dinner for fish and salad!

After 3 weeks and my clothes getting loose and feeling better, not only physically, but about myself in general, I think I deserve a small piece of cake! Besides, it will be a good test to see if I can treat myself every now and then without going completely nuts. Let's hope I pass!!!!

AllyandJack-I'm glad you are feeling better. That is always the first step. Keep up the good work. I know you can have a piece of cake without losing control. Just be careful, because your stomach might react to those sweets after not having any for a while.

I was wondering this morning why in phase one you drink tomato juice when it has 6 grams of sugar in it, I thought you were supose to cut all sugar out??

I believe because it is a natural source of sugar. Just like you can eat tomatoes, but there is sugar in tomatoes. I personally hate tomatoe juice. Honestly, this is the only answer I can come up with.

The issue is not sugars per se, but refined sugar, which shoots your blood sugar up and leads to a sugar low. Natural sugars in unprocessed foods are not a problem, although fruits, which are naturally higher in sugars than other foods, are not allowed in Phase 1.

When digesting whole, unprocessed foods, your body has to work harder to break it down, and so your blood sugar is affected at a slow, steady rate, as opposed to what happens when you eat, say, SweeTarts.

Also, as much as I love tomatoes, tomato juice just seems wrong to me. It's a personal quirk, I know.

And, happy 21st, Kimmykins!

thotfulspot, I agree. tomato juice just seems wrong. ugh

OK...I am patiently waiting for the next pound to drop so that I can claim my 15lb clippie. So, I will weigh every single day until that darn scale moves. I have been averaging 2lbs per week, but last week it was only 1, and so far nothing this week. Sometimes this is so frustrating, but I am motivated to continue on this journey towards the 40lb weight loss.

This board is a great help. I come here often for inspiration, so thanks for listening everyone.

leanne2255- I know what you mean. I only need to lose one more pound to claim my 35 pound clippie, and that scale apparantly doesn't want to move. I think I want to beat the scale up. Don't give up, because I'm not going to. Just when we both lest expect it, the scale will move and we will have the weight gone. Sometimes I think my body knows that I want it to lose some weight and it's mocking me:teeth:

I first thought I wouldn't be able to handle the tomato juice in the morning but I actually enjoy it.

Hey Cris, that's great. Are you feeling any better yet?

 Hi everyone. How's it going? Been might quiet around here, hope all of you are doing well.

How do I look with my new 15 lb clippie? After cussing out the scale the other day, I guess it got scared and moved down another pound.

Sheree, you're right. It has been quiet around here lately. I hope everyone is having a good week. :wave2:

Hi guys!

Congratulations to you leanne! Your clippie is so beautiful!

I want to give all my SBD buddies a special invitation to join a new challenge that starts on July 5. It's called the "SCALE JUNKIES - UNITE" challenge. I know I can get obsessive when it comes to the scale. It will make or break my day based on what it says. It has gotten ridiculous and I decided I wanted to see if I could go a whole month without weighing myself everyday. Sometimes I would weigh myself 3 or 4 times a day!

Anyway, I just wanted you all to know about this challenge and if you've got a scale addiction you want to try and beat, please join us! :)

No scale for a month! :scared1: That might be a tough one. But then again, I didn't think I'd be able to give up sugar, and bad carbs either, but I did.

The great part would be that after 30 days, the weight loss would be a wonderful surprise.

I may have to think about this one a bit. :scratchin

Leanne - I hope you join us! You are so right that I didn't think I could give up sugar or french fries for a month and here I am sugar and french fry free for 209 days! We can give up that nasty scale for a month! I'm talking real big here, we'll see if I can put my money where my big mouth is! :)

Leanne, look at that clippie. How wonderful. My scale isn't scared of me yet, but I am so proud of you. :jumping1: :jumping1:

You know Lisa, I'm right there with you. I told DH that if I did the challenge, just hide the darn thing from me. I don't want to see it or I willbe tempted to use it. SO, if you are doing on July 5th, I'm with ya. I really would like to know what the scale would say at the end of the month

Leanne, nice job!! Would you mind dropping by and chewing out my scale for me? It's actually starting to be nice to me again, but I figure that every bit helps. :p

thotfulspot lol. I was thinking the same thing. Mine is trying to hold on to that pound. I kinda want to "pound it":teeth:

Whoa - do I have some catching up to do. We are home from our Disney trip. I can't believe that we drove out the gate at Ft Wilderness yesterday morning. 1000 highway miles and one night in South Carolina and we are back.

I was not good on my vacation. I did a LOT of walking and bike riding, but we pretty much abandoned the diet while we were gone. SWMBO and I both agreed to restart on phase 1 now that we are back, and I only gained 4 pounds - I need to check again after my digestive system gets back to normal. This was, without a doubt, the best vacation the Smith family ever had. I have to get some sleep tonight. I do all the driving when we are pulling the camper, and 1000 miles in two days leaves me velocitized and I have a bit of tunnel vision.

More later - it is good to be home. Time to start planning our next Disney vacation. :D
