South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Whoops, what I wrote wasn't clear. I'll be doing some grocery shopping once we arrive, rather than bringing it along. So, good, it looks like I'm on the right track. How about cereal? What sorts are best under South Beach?

Hope everyone had a good 4th!!! Today was weigh-in day and I've lost 2 more pounds, making 10.2 for the first two weeks on Phase 1.

I've decided to stay on Phase 1 for another week. The hardest part will be staying off that scale until next Monday again! (I'm only letting myself weigh in on Mondays) I would join the 30 day scale ban, but it's too soon -- I need to see that scale moving to stay motivated!!

hello everyone. I am starting the stay off the scale challenge with Lisa (zeraspride). How hard for us::yes:: I did make my one pound weight loss though. I am now celebrating 35 pounds in 5 months. THis diet is great

Sheree-congrats on the new clippie! I admire you and Lisa fo taking the "no scale challenge". I didn't think that I could do it, even though I only try to weigh-in once a week. Another 2lbs gone this week, for a total of 17. Heading towards my 20lb clippie!::yes::

leanne-congrats on the weight loss. 17 pounds is terrific ::yes:: :jumping1:

Staying off the scale is going to be truly hard, but I was really letting it run things around here and that has just got to stop. Hopefully by the end of the month, I'll be closer to 140 or right at it. My goal is 130. I haven't weighed that since high school. At 148, I haven't weighed this since before my daughter was born 6 years ago. Hopefully with staying off the scale I can focus more on exercise and really keeping to my diet rather than some number on the scale.

BTW, I had to go shopping for some jeans at the request of my husband. First it was shorts, now jeans. I actually brought home 2 pairs of size 8's. I haven't worn an 8 since 9th grade. I am feeling so good right now.

Hi everyone!

I'm checking in with my last weigh in for 30 days. I lost 3 pounds this week and feel so good about it! I only lost 3.5 pounds for the entire month of June so this is just great for me. My total weight loss is now 68 pounds and I'm at my lowest weight in more than 20 years! I just love South Beach!!!!!

Sheree - I am so proud of you! I just can't imagine wearing a size 8. You are doing such a fantastic job and I know we will both be successful on this scale challenge!

leanne2255 - congrats on your loss this week too! Keep it up and you'll have that 20 pound clippie in no time.

MickeyMagic - we would have loved to have you join our challenge but I can understanding needing to see the scale move down. Great job on your first two weeks of South Beach! Keep it up!

thotfulspot - have a great time on vacation! I try to eat the same (as much as I can) all the time, even when on vacation. As far as cereal is concerned, I eat Post Whole Wheat Flakes made with 100% whole wheat. I know there are other cereals like All Bran type cereals but I like the Post brand best.

Leanne, woo-hoo!! That's fantastic -- keep up your good work!!

Thanks, Zeraspride! I'm so afraid that with the stress of travel and the jetlag, that I'll backslide. I want to work out the healthy options for myself first, so I don't give in to temptation. Good for you on your loss! Fabulous! What a great boost right before you say bu-bye to the scale!

Sheree, that's my ultimate goal too! I started off at (this is the first time I've actually put this down in black and white) 180, and my 'normal' adult weight, pre-babies, was about 145. I decided that as long as I was going for it, I'd go for it big, and aim straight for babehood. This morning, I stepped on the sca--uh, that thing you stand on with all the numbers, and for the first time in almost 8 years, it had dipped below 150! Yes, although it isn't official until my weigh-in day, I'm at 149.86 lbs!

I'm wearing 'mediums' and size 10s, and dreaming of soon being in a size 8. I can't wait to hit Florida and buy an armload of cute summer clothes!

Enough own-horn-tooting. I hope everyone's having a great day on the Beach!!

:sunny: :sunny:

Jerry - thanks so much for the Phase 2 list. I let a friend borrow my book and sometimes I need to refer to this list so it's nice to have it handy here. I hope all is well with you.

Happy Tuesday Beachers!

My doctor has told me to go to the Beach. She said that she really believes this is ultimately the way all people should eat. To be honest I hadn't even looked at it - as the name alone has struck me as a "fad" diet. I'd lost about 30 pounds on WW, but had "backslid" and haven't lost any more.

I've bought the book - will go full force probably next Monday. I've got to work up to this, as my husband and 2 sons ( 15 and 20) are agreeing to go on it with me! ... well the 15 year old isn't all that up for it, and I'll be making a few exceptions for him - especially during the first two weeks.

Any way - I've been a member in the DIS for awhile - and have scouted various forums, and decided this thread seems to offer the friendliest group - .. now why should I be surprised.. :p

SO - is it okay to join y'all? I've got about 75 lbs to lose - and am pretty excited about getting this started. I've chosen Monday - I can buy all the food I need by then - and get a Mom and Dad weekend out of the way before then. - by the next Mom and Dad weekend I'll be used to the way of eating and it won't be as stressful! :earseek:

Have a great week - it really does seem like Monday doesn't it?

Pam

Pam-welcome. We have plenty of room for new members. Life on the Beach is great. The first week is kinda hard, but after that it just flows. It get even better as you begin to see the weight just coming off. Not only that, but the way you eat is really good for the body. So, again welcome. I hope you and your family have much success on the beach. Come back anytime, we'd love to keep hearing from you.

Another welcome for our newest member - Pam!!!!

We are so happy to have you join us. Losing 75 pounds is very doable. I started 7 months ago and I'm down 68 pounds. This is a great program and the food is just delicious. Everyone on this thread is so helpful so if you have any questions or when you have a loss, post so we can celebrate with you!

My DH is on the program with me and except for little things, our teen son eats what we do. Believe me, he isn't deprived and we do allow him to have his occasional fast food, ice cream, chips or donuts. He hasn't lost one pound and tells us that most of the meals we make are very good. That's high praise from a teen!

All four of us could stand to lose!! laugh... I'm hoping this will give my boys the kick that I'm hoping to get!!:bounce: We'll see!

I'm really looking forward to it actually - I've been feeling VERY crummy lately - and somehow know in my heart that this will get me on the road back to feeling great!!

Looking forward to "sharing" with y'all!!

Pam

I have had the book actually for a few months now. I re-read it over the week end and am going full force starting today.

I did great for the first day ! ( there always has to be a first step right?) I even got in excercise today....30 min! Which is a big deal for me.

I have to say , that although I have not yet read this entire thread, I have read a lot of it and y'all are really an inspiration ! I will be going on vacation in 2 weeks to Williamsburg/Busch Gardens and reading Zeraspride's account of her staying OP in WDW it is giving me inspiration to keep it up on my vacation ! It shouldn't actually be too bad if I reallly want to do it as we are renting a timeshare property with full Kitchen and I intend to do some meals there....

I do have just a few "food related" questions for all you experts:

I just can't get down the "ricotta cream" for dessert for the first phase. I understand why it is a good choice but can anyone offer and alternative for me. I made it tonite a couple of different ways and I really can't take it! I never was a fan of ricotta cheese at all...stuffed shells, ravioli, lasagna....even those can 't "hide" the fact that there is ricotta in there!

Also , not a big fan of string cheese either. ( I guess picky about my cheese) I also tried one of those and just ended up throwing it out! COuld I subsitute the turkey roll ups when the book calls for a string cheese??

Thanks for anyone who can help! I'm sure I'll have more questions:)

Welcome panfan. So glad that you found us. We do try to be an inspiration and support to each other. Come back anytime.

Staying OP is not hard. Zeraspride did and excellent job while she was there and I was also there at the same time. It was hard for me to fight temptation, but it was so worth it. You can stay on plan while you are on vacation, it's just takes a little planning.

As far as the ricotta, I didn't like it either. I ate sugar free desserts that are allowed. Popcicles, fudgecicles and such. I also love whipping up cream cheese with some DaVinci syrup and some splenda. It make a delicious creamy treat.

I don't do the string cheese either. I have to have block cheese. I cut up cheese and eat it with deli meat. The great thing about this plan is that it enables you to sort of customize your own persoan eating habits.

Good luck. Experiment with they foods that are allowed and maybe you will come up with a combination that works well for you.

Another welcome panfan! You are going to love it here on the Beach. This is just the greatest eating plan and the food is so delicious. Getting through Phase 1 (or at least the first 4 days) was a bit difficult for me and DH but once we got used to the plan, we haven't looked back since!

I'm glad you were able to be encouraged by my example on vacation. I was determined to stay OP and I am so glad I was able to. You can do it too and having a timeshare unit will make it all that more doable.

It seems like you may be following the meal plan in the book and as Sheree mentioned you don't have to do that. You can just take the list of allowed foods and make your meals from the list. I am not a fan of the ricotta desserts either and DH and I eat the no sugar added fudgesicles or our new love the sugar free creamsicles. They are only 20 calories each so you can have more than 1 and still be under the 75 calorie dessert limit.

I'm not the biggest fan of string cheese so for snacks I have been known to take a thin slice of deli chicken and roll it up with 1/2 slice of reduced fat cheese. Stick in the microwave for 20 seconds and you've got a yummy snack.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Btw, way to go on the exercise! I can just tell that you are going to be successful with this way of eating!

Thanks for the encouragement guys!
I figured I'd try to follow as close as possible to the book the first few weeks anyway. It gets me to try out new foods I might not otherwise be into! I know we all get in a rut , diet or not !
I bought Weight Watchers smart ones chocolate mousse pops at 40 calories. Are these an acceptable treat in place of the ricotta? What about the protein in the ricotta you are getting...does it matter if the other frozen things don't have protein??

Thanks for your help :)

Hi everyone!

I am new to the South Beach, just started yesterday, but not new to DIS. I was so excited when I found this thread....what better place to find motivation and support with people who also share my love of Disney!

We recently went to WDW and on the 4- night Wonder and after looking at the photos...I can no longer fool myself! I cropped all of the photos with me in them on the plane ride home to only show above the waist! How sad! Oh well...that is all that I needed to get myself in gear and do something!

I made it through Day 1 and am now on Day 2 and all is going fine so far. If any of you have any suggestions or tips for success I would love to hear them!

Vicki

panfan-I would look at the sugar content in the weight watcher's dessert. SBD is supposed to cut out the sugar in your diet. It will definately stall your weight loss.

Vicki-I know what you mean. I tried to be in denial for a long time. I kept saying, I don't look that bad do I? No everyone was still calling me beautiful and things. Yeah, beautiful and fat. I saw some pictures of me last year at Disney and me this year at Disney and I was like, I was fat. I told DH to take me out off all of those picture from last year, at the very least, don't show them to anyone. I have been on since the end of January and it's been wonderful. SO many of us has found great success. I wish you the best of luck. COme back anytime, and Welcome

Okay....the Weight Watchers pops have 40 cal, 9 carb, 2g protein, and 3g sugar. Are these okay ?? If not can anyone post the brands of treats they have been using and enjoy so I can go to the grocery store after work tonite with a plan?

Thanks :)
