South Beach Dieters......... Unite

welcome home!! I am on day 8 and not sure if I have lost any weight but I don't even own a scale. I have a physical next month so I will know then if I have lost anything. The bread and french fries really haven't been the issue for me nor really has the pop been. But I still have a strong urge for a sweet after my meals. And of course it is so hard at work, the other day they had a big birthday cake that I could have just dove into!! LOL!!

Hang in there Cris. I know you can make it::yes:: That sweet tooth can get you. Believe it or not, I still get a sweet tooth every now and then. I just have a popcicle or something to lessen the cravings

Leanne, nice job!! Would you mind dropping by and chewing out my scale for me? It's actually starting to be nice to me again, but I figure that every bit helps. :p

Before I answered, I wanted to see where you were from and my answer is..

I'd love to! Haven't been to Germany since 1984 when I visited my brother at Ramstein AFB. :)

Excellent! I'm afraid that white asparagus season has just ended, but we're in the thick of strawberry season! Rumor has it that summer may be starting any day now -- my scale awaits its scolding!

:wave2: Hello everyone. Yesterday was a weigh in. I lost .5 pounds. How terrible is that :( At least I didn't gain anything, but I was so looking forward to that 35 pound clippie. I guess I'm going through my own lull right now. I am not discouraged though. I will keep on going on and see this through till I reach my goal.

I hope everyone is doing well. Have a great day

Ooooh - so close to your 35 lb clippie!!! Next week for sure - (unless you're joining Lisa in banning the scales as of July 5!)

I'm going through a very slooooow period right now - scales haven't moved for over three weeks of Phase 2. (stalled at 13 lb weight loss).

I'm considering going back to Phase I for a week or two to try jump-starting my metabolism again. I have a hypothyroid condition (controlled with medication) but my metabolism seems to slow right down to match food consumption rather than losing pounds. Has anyone else encountered this?

I'm not too discouraged yet - I have a long way to go to goal weight; it's just taking longer than I hoped!

Arlene

I just started the SBD today (munching on my 15 almonds as I type, lol)! I tried WW last year and managed to lose 10 pounds on it... but I never wrote down what I ate and eventually it caught up with me. I have a few friends who have done tremendously on the SBD and after reading the book - I'm determined!!

Originally I had about 20 pounds to lose... but I've had a really rough time the past few months and I gained 21 pounds!! I was just so out of control. So I've told myself that it's "new" fat and I don't own it yet. Quick on - quick off (I hope, lol!). Now my goal is 40 pounds.

Today is day 1!

Arlene- Don't get discouraged. It is hard sometimes. I too thougt it would come off much faster than it has. However, I know that if we hang in there, we can do this. Pretty soon we'll have a SBD thread full of those of us who have done goal and are in Phase 3 for life.

jenny-Welcome to life of the Beach. We are a great group to join. We offer encouragement, a chance to vent, and a chance to rejoice together. Come back anytime. Good luck on your weight loss journey

I've been on the Beach for 8 days now, but it sure would be nice to have some company. Can I join you guys? My ultimate goal is to lose 70 pounds, but my shorter-term goal is 21 pounds.

I weighed in the day I started and promised myself I would not weigh in again until a week had passed, which was yesterday. Upon completion of Phase 1 - week 1, I've dropped 8.2 pounds!! Ya-hoo!

The initial weight loss has given me the motivation to continue, but I am looking forward to at least adding a few berries to my diet next week! I'm getting kind of sick of balsamic vinegar & olive oil on salads. Does anyone have suggestions for a good salad dressing that is okay for Phase 1?

The weather is finally improving here in Minnesota - getting warmer with bright sunshine.... perfect for hanging with the DIS friends on the beach!!!!!! I'm going for a walk now... see you soon!

MickeyMagic- Congratulations on the weight loss. You must feel terrific. Please join our little group. We offer lots of encouragement, advice and support. Our family of SBD just keeps growing and growing. You can reach your goals. There are so many here whom SBD has really helped. Once again welcome

Welcome to Jenny and MickeyMagic!

I'm sorry I haven't been around the past couple of days guys. I'm so mad at this 1/2 pound that I gained that I've been a bit grumpy lately. I'm feeling much better now . . . :sunny: . . . thanks in part to the wonderfully supportive people of WISH. I'm back in focus and ready to lose the rest of this weight.

While I enjoy this process, it will sure be great to make the jump to Phase 3 one day!

Just curious as to what kind of scales you all are using that measure to the 1/2 pound? I have just a regular (non digital) scale that only shows 1 lb increments.

I know the WW scales measure to the tenth of a pound, which was great for those weeks when you could celebrate that small of a loss. (at least it wasn't a gain)

I've got a digital scale. It's great. I wish I would have spent the extra few dollars to get the BMI reading as well. But like I said, I like it a lot.

I got a new clippie! Yippee!
I like the idea of the scale ban, but I restrict myself to my weekly weigh in at TOPs, so it doesn't get out of hand.

leanne-I have a WW scale. I got it at a great deal a couple of months ago, and thought it was too good to pass up.

Lori- Alright. How wonderful for you. That clippie looks great on you::yes:: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Lori-Congrats on the new clippie! WTG! :cheer2:

Sheree- I would LOVE to have one of those WW scales. It would be great to see those tenth of a pound losses, when it appears that on my regular scale, it is not moving at all.

This board is growing by leaps and bounds- Welcome to Jenny2 and MickeyMagic. It's nice to have a crowd on "the beach".

leanne- love my scale. it is a wonderful tool::yes::

Well, as you know my scale hasn't been moving to much. However, yesterday DH decided I'd better go shopping. He was like your shorts are falling off. I said he was just being silly. There was nothing wrong with my clothes and I had just brought them in may, for our trip to Disney world. Well guess what, he was right. I had to buy some size 10's and some 8's. I can't remember the last time I wore an 8. Maybe, maybe 9th grade? So, since I started this thing at the end of Jan. I have gone from a 14W with some 16 regular to a size 10 and some 8's. I don't think that's bad at all. Scale be darned:teeth: :thewave:

Sheree - I'm with you on that dang scale thing. Can't wait for the challenge to start. Congratulations to you for getting into those 8's and 10's!!!! You must feel so good! The only jeans I have are a size 20 and my family is bugging me to get new ones. I wore them to dress down day at work this past Friday and they were literaly dragging the ground and I kept having to pull them up. I guess it's time considering I can wear pants 2 and even 3 sizes smaller. Isn't this a great "problem" to have!

Lori - that is a beautiful clippie you have!!! You should be so proud! We are proud of you. Don't worry about not being able to join us for this challenge. I'm scale addicted but not everyone has this obession. I didn't start off this way, it just sort of happend and I want to get a handle on it so that's why I started the challenge. It sounds like you are doing just fine!

While I'm still not near my goal, my clothes are getting a little big. Not wanting to spend the money on new clothes until I reach goal, I stopped at the resale shop here in town, and I was able to pick up a pair of Ralph Lauren capris, and Lee shorts for $17.00. I think that's where I'll be shopping as I get smaller.

Whew! Busy time on the Beach!

Jerry in PA -- Welcome back! I have to tell you that I have great respect for a man who has not only shown such tremendous weight loss, but refers to his wife as She Who Must Be Obeyed. I'll bet those 4 pounds turn out to be mostly water weight and just disappear once you're resettled in the home routine.

Sheree -- First of all, half a pound lost is half a pound closer to goal, so go you! Good for you for fitting into smaller shorts -- isn't it all about the shopping? It just goes to show you -- if you get a bit discouraged about the scale, hit the stores and let the new clothes tell you all about your progress!

Arlene -- See above! Sometimes the scale doesn't seem to budge, but your body is getting firmer. The important thing is, can you see a difference in how your clothes fit and how you feel? I'll bet the Whoosh Fairy is getting her wand ready for you!

jenny2 -- Welcome! Let us know how things are going for you!

MickeyMagic -- Welcome too, and good job on your initial loss!! Watching those pounds melt away in Phase 1 is enormous fun, isn't it? Salad dressing-wise: my favorite salad is topped with crumbled feta cheese and then dressed with red wine vinegar and olive oil. The flavors of the vinegar and feta blend so delectably that they give the whole salad a sensational flavor! Start with the best quality red wine vinegar and olive oil that you can find.

ZerasPride -- It's very clear to me that what your scale is reflecting is a half pound of new muscle. Head out to the stores and get some new pants! I know you're saying adios to your scale soon, so just focus on how great you feel and how proud you are of all you've accomplished -- and so are we!!

leanne2255 -- I've got a digital scale that measures kilograms in increments of tenths of a kilo. I spend my days multiplying my results by 2.2 in my head, which definitely keeps my mind off food. Good thinking on the resale shop! I've been having the same quandary -- I want to get rid of my clothes as soon as they start to get big, but I'm not close enough to goal to feel right about major shopping. I've been buying summer tops because I need them and I figure they'll still fit for quite a while, but accepting that any pants I buy are just for the next few months.

Lori -- Nice clippie!! Looking good on you!!

I've been hovering on the edge of my own next clippie for the longest time, and this morning finally saw me tip over! I would normally not count it as official until my 'real' weigh-in on Sunday, but the heck with it -- I earned it and I want to see it! We're leaving for vacation in about three weeks, and if I lose two more pounds in that time, I'll be at a total of 30 pounds lost. It would be sensational to get another clippie before we leave, but we'll just have to see.

Good job, everyone! :sunny: :sunny:
