South Beach Dieters Thread ??? Anyone???

Hey SB WISHers!

Great thread. I lost 55lbs with SB last year (before getting pregnant and gaining 70. :sad2: Yikes!) I love the diet. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Plus, it straightened out my moods since I wasn't having sugar highs and lows. For the first time in my life I wasn't spending all day thinking about food.

But I've since lost the motivation to get back on it. I can't count the number of times I've done Phase 1. Serously, probably 7-8 times. But, with 2 kids I end up strapped for time and energy and hit the drive-thrus. That's my latest problem. When I was doing SB I was the only one on it. I was making recipes/altering ingredients just for me. But now I have to prepare meals my kids will eat. I have no idea what to do. They won't eat onions, lettuce, etc. I get so discouraged when I spend the time, money, and energy to make SB meals and then they won't eat them. WHAT DO I DO?!? :confused3 :confused3

I must be a bad mom because I tell my DD (soon to be 13) that if she doesn't eat it then she must not be hungry :lmao: . I started SBD coming close to 6 weeks ago and she's been eating salad starting the 3rd week. Hey, when you're hungry your hungry. Don't believe your kids if they say they are starving because their not because they do eat the protein right?? Alrighty then. I don't offer anything other than what I prepare and that's it. No substitutes either. I can't have any of the bad stuff in my house or I'll start eating the bad stuff. That's how I see it.

I find it impossible to cook for me and then make something different from DD and DH. DH is on the SBD as he started with me not really knowing, but he's dropped about 18lbs since we started.

Yes, you spend more time in the kitchen because you have to actually make your own meals but it's so worth it to plan ahead for it. I got the hang of it after I finished P1.

I like the fact that I'm saving money from not buying take-out which I had to have all the time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chinese food with a passion, but I gave it up and I don't crave it. Maybe when I hit my goal weight I'll go have a dinner there once in a while.

Hey, you can eat out but choose something healthy from the menu. You can check what's good and what's not by plugging in the foods into the GI database. High numbers tell you what you can't have and lower numbers tell you what you can have but you have to go by the printed serving sizes as well. When I'm out shopping or something I choose salads off the menu and I go with Burger King's grilled chicken garden salad minus the salad dressing and I order a cup of water.

I hope you get your motivation back. What motivates me is looking through before and after pictures of people who have had success with the SBD and I posted a picture of Garcelle Beauvais on my refrigerator (my goal is to look like her). I say to myself...I can be that!

I, too, am the only one on SB in my house so it's tough. But it can be done!

As for the onions, have you tried caramelizing them? It takes away some of the onion-y flavor.

Good idea because I only eat cooked onions as raw onions make me cry and it's just disgusting to me.

I use chopped scallions instead. You can cut them up small and they blend well in foods, plus you can still taste them.

I don't do the meal plan things and I'm doing fine. That's just me, though. :)

Part of me says I'd rather drop the inches than pounds but I know they're interconnected.

After a while, you get the jist of what you can eat and what you can't eat. I'm on you with that.

I've gotten rid of inches and I'm so happy, but I'm into poundage. I'm tired of being so heavy. Get me to 173 and then I'm good. After that all the inches can fall off if they want to. At 173 that will put me into a size 10.

Considering I'm 5' and am now 166, I've left 173 behind and do not wish to see it again. You can have it.
I've lost 9 pounds so far.

I'm aiming for around 115. Maybe less when I get there but we'll see!

Hey, if I can't sell it then I don't want it!!! :lmao:

I am cheering you on sister!!!! :cheer2: :thumbsup2

I think I'm going to go back to WW. SB caused me to gain 2 lbs. :sad1:

I don't know WHAT I'm going to do. On one hand I don't want to eat absolutely nothing (WW), on the other hand I gained 2 lbs with SB. I can't stand going hungry so I'm not sure WW is a good option. :scared:

In order for the SBD to work for you you must follow it exactly how it is spelled out for you in the meal plan. I posted it above. I don't go hungry on the SBD and I haven't gained any significant amounts of weight. What your weight seems to be doing is fluctuating and that's normal. I've watching my weight fluctuate for 6 weeks now, but at the end of each week I've manage to drop 1-2 of those lbs. Give this diet a little more time if you're not so into WWs.

Eat more protein and veggies and drink MORE water to get rid of hunger pangs.

Also, what types of foods are you eating? Like what's in your meal plan?

Fruits and veggies, some peanut butter. I should probably add more protein.

How much fruit are you eating? You are limited when it comes to fruits and you can only eat certain ones. PB you only get 2 TBS at each snack but I only eat 1 because it's all that is needed snack wise, but you can have 2 but it has to be natural PB...no Skippy, no Gif, no Peter Pan or anything like that that is high in sugar and saturated fat. I use Smucker's Natural. Yes, the oil seperates but once you get used to it you won't go back to regular PB...trust me. I regular PB the other night, ewww. :lmao:

Eat more veggies, no carrots or potatoes unless you're using it as your starch serving. And again, more water. It flushes you out.

I can't remember if you are tracking your weight and what you eat, but that is a good idea. If you see what you've been eating and you put your daily weight with it over time you can see which foods that are not doing your body well. This is what I do. I keep it on paper and I'm religious with keeping it updated. It's cool to see my weight dropping each week.

Don't give up. Keep going. If you really want to lose weight then set some realistic goals. I don't say I want to lose 80 lbs. ever. I say 30lbs first and when I get down to that then I'll say 20lbs. If I say 50lbs. it will discourage me. I wish I had to time and equipment in my home like those people on the Biggest Loser. I think we'd all hit our goal weights if it were that simple.

Hardly eating any fruit at all. As for peanut butter, I have to take what dh brings home. And no one in my house eats the natural stuff. So I just watch how much I eat.

One of the problems is that I'm the only one in my house that eats this way. Everyone else (2 other adults, my 7 mo old is still nursing for the most part) eats...shall I say...normal? :lmao:

This is the fifth time I've tried SBD. And it's not working for me again. :headache: :sad1:
Of the 8 pounds I've lost so far, 5 were on WW and 3 were on SB but I have gained almost 2 of those 3 lost back. It's sad and irritating.
So I'm going to try WW again.
But I will still be here, rooting you guys on. :cheer2:

My jar of natural pb belongs to me and me only. :lmao:

I get what you're saying though. I ended up changing the way my family eats and though they moaned and groaned about it they are happy with it now because everybody is slimming down. My oldest has lost about 8lbs. (she's overweight too).

I will continue to root you on too! I'm not going anywhere. :thumbsup2

I like ice cream, too. Have you considered homemade LC ice cream?

My friend recommended Blue Bunny ice cream to me, but I'm not a ice cream person so I don't eat it. I like chocolate mousse cake better. :lmao:

I had a slice of that back on 8/3 and didn't gain a lb. I ate a small Chinese fried rice on 8/23 and didn't gain a lb. So in moderation it's all good. I just don't eat it often...once in the blue.

Today I weighed in and I was 201.4! I was 203.8 yesterday and then 204.6 the day before that. I think I'm finally out of my 208 and 206 fluctuations in weeks 5 and 6 :cool1: . I weighed myself 7 different times this morning hahah and 201 just kept showing up. I had to be sure. I am beaming! It must have been some of that pixie dust I wished for last night. I hope it stays at 201 for tomorrow.

Going to change my 15lbs dis wish image to 20lbs!!!
