Sorry Universal but never again

How defensive you all get. I guess you all missed the point. I was not asking for any compensation. I like to come to a hotel, get my room and settle in. I was upset that I was not told about the construction on the floor above me. If I wanted to be compensated for it, I could have refused to pay but I felt the ball was dropped when we checked in. I know most large resorts have their problems and some are not under their control, but when you have a large construction project going on- come on you know about that.
I hope this is dropped or locked by the monitors. And by the way, these boards before I left had not said anything about it being on the 4th floor. So I do check websites for where i am staying. The last thing I remember on these boards was that they were starting on the 7th floor.
I will probably try a different hotel that i know there is no construction going on at the time. Everyone enjoys different things, and a big part of my vacation is enjoying the resort for over 75% of my time there. So the cleaniness and quietness of a resort matters to me.
Have a good day. :cool1: :rolleyes1

I believe we all agreed with your point that the "ball was dropped" when they didn't let you know about the construction above you...that's not defensive, that was agreeance. These boards always recommend that you talk to management about any problems while you are there (and then) to get them solved...which you did :thumbsup2 However, you did not want/choose to accept any gestures the hotel offered to compensate/make you feel better....and, while it's your choice and okay to NOT accept them, nonetheless, the hotel at least offered.

I think the problem here was your title of your thread.... you make it sound like you are not going back to Universal based on your unfortunate experience at the RPR :confused3 I don't think many would have sounded so defensive if you hadn't titled it that way :confused3

Smart to do your research, as I remember rpbert1 reporting in at the middle of July that rehabbing had started on RPR Tower 1 Floor 4. Do NOT take this the wrong way, but if I knew that info ahead of time, I might have remembered to ask how far along they were....then again, I'm blonde, and might have forgotten too.... :headache:

Like mentioned...try another resort (or same one cuz now it's "new") and give Universal another whirl....I have no idea what you even thought of the parks, as you only reviewed RPR.

(Is there a TR hiding somewhere I don't know about?? )

You told us of a situation, and we told you what we thought about it....sorry if we offended you. Sorry that we dont see it as a big deal. Again, I'm not trying to be inflamatory, or be rude...I just dont see your gripe. I can see if they refused to do something about it, I can see if you asked for a discount on your room and did not get it....but you were unhappy with a situation, and you did nothing about it...so nothing was resolved. Should things have been upfront, yes...and I bet if people complain then it will be resolved and they will have signage saying something like "pardon our dust..this part of our hotel is being remodeled". :goodvibes

right and I'm never going to visit Disney again because I stayed at the Grosvernor the sheets weren't clean

We are DVC members at BWV. The end of May was our first stay. We had a 2 bd on the Boardwalk. The washer didn't work, people were carousing at 2 am, there was rust on the fridge. Check-in was the most horrendous experience that I've ever had in a hotel. Nobody at DVC or BWV warned me about these things and no one offered an apology or a donut or even a glasss of water.

Disney didn't treat me right, so I'm never ever going there for the rest of my life!!!

Not true, I'm going back in November. However, I'm more exited to be returning to the RPR after my BWV stay because I always save the best for last.

And have you heard all the moaning, groaning and complaining on the threads on the resort board about how their vacation will be ruined because Disney moved them to another resort? OMG, you would think the world was coming to an end because they had reserved AKL and now they will have to stay somewhere else.
.

I thought it rather bizarre too:confused3 ; imo it saved them from dealing with the construction; many of the "upgrades" i saw posted weren't too shabby:rolleyes1 especially when many booked using 40% off pincodes that were supposed to be "postcard" ones; yet many were able to sweet talk CMs into a "gimme" in the 1st place.

Originally, we had the new AKV booked (rehabed AK lol); when i found out (via calling DVC member services) that construction could commence @ 8:00 a.m. and run to 9:00 p.m.; we bailed...

and decided to buy the 2 year BOGO free APs @ U (which is where we will be staying a night in Dec. before our cruise) .

To the OP, a good practice is to ALWAYS ask as to any rehabs when you book the room and check back a month before you arrive, and then a week prior, jik!

We had issues with customer service @ RPR. They didn't make nice when i complained during our visit, however the mgr. was quite apologetic when i tracked him down once i returned home.:thumbsup2 Moreso, I was assured they'd "step it up a notch" as to my specific issue.

Hey! watch it, that's my "home" you're talking about lol.;)

sorry to hear your stay wasn't as you had wished.:sad2:we had way-too-slowly resolved bug issues @ the BCV. Unfortunately, all it takes is 1 badly handled customer service issue and it's hard to convince most people to give it another whirl.:confused3

We're going back to BWV in Thanksgiving. Just contrasting the OP's post with our less than perfect experience. One bad stay isn't going to sour me on a theme park.

Sorry Disney but Never Again....because I found large globs of green snot on a pillow case of a made bed and 3 blister packs of prescription medicine on top of the TV and over-the-counter meds in the trash in our concierge room at the Poly. BTW - Great stuff to have in a room when you have a toddler at the time.

Oh wait - We haven't stayed there again.

But we certainly have visited Disney. The perils/disgusts of the hotel certainly have not kept us from visiting and thoroughly enjoying Disney.

Things happen. You deal with it and accept the consequences of your decisions. But you might want to be careful of making absolute statements - like "Sorry Universal, Never Again." You may just come to regret those words :goodvibes You yourself said you had a great time in the parks!

But if you want to have Phamton lock the thread, I am sure she would be much obliging. :teeth: Just report the thread and ask for it to be locked.

You have a great day too!!

Funny I found this post! :) We are at RPR right now. Although it is an amazingly beautiful hotel, we had a similar issue today. We arrived late last night about 1am after the PPP at MK. We went to sleep as soon as our bags arrived at our room @ 3am (they said they had the wrong room number for us so it took them a while to get to us). Then I was awakened right at 9am by what sounded like loud hammering. It took awhile to get back to sleep but I am fairly light sleeper and kept getting awakened by the noise. :( We didn't call the front desk but just tried to deal with it. :) If we have the same issue tomorrow, we will call though and ask to change rooms. I think it is def. worth it to switch rooms to get us some sleep. :) :) Thanks for this thread!! :) :)

To start with, I wouldn't book a hotel that was doing construction/renovation.

I would have stayed at one of the other two.

Of course, once I booked Beach Club Concierge and arrived to find the whole back of the hotel covered in scaffolding - they just never told us it was being renovated, that annoyed me. It looked terrible, but certainly didn't ruin the stay.
