I am not crazy about Vadar or Anakin either. Although Anakin is a much better choice out of the two. I like the idea the OP had about Harrison. That's a great name..if it works with your last name. (plus Harrison Ford is still a hottie)

I agree with the previous poster. Don't saddle you child with Anakin or Vader! You may be Star Wars fans now but there is no guarantee your son will be. He will spend the rest of his life explaining his name origin. If you like Star Wars character names try Luke, simple, easy to spell and no one will have trouble saying it. Trust me, I have taught for over 25 years and your child will have an easier time if he's a Luke not an Anakin or Vader!

I agree! WHen teaching you begin to have "associations" with certain names too. It made our choice really difficult! We have a Declan Graham (pronounced Decklan, Graham comes from DH's middle name and his dad's middle name)
Whatever your choice, your child will be special!

Another vote for Lucas here My girls are Chelsea (not MY first choice) Chloe and Chandler (not after Friends, and everyone thinks it is a boy's name ) My son is Grant, but I wanted another boy and had picked out the name Chase. I prefer names that are not TOO common (like Nathan!!) and not too weird!!

I don't mind Anakin. I also like Hayden...But we named are daughter Gillian Rose after Gillian Anderson from the xfiles and Rose from Titantic. I say think out the of the box. There are way to many Jacobs and Emily's out there right now.

Anakin My sons name is Dakota James (he gets alot of north or south questions) That I dont like...I told him to answer "it is Lakota for Friend or alli" that usually shuts them up. I think uncommon names are great. I like common names when they are paired with a cute middle name.
The names I had picked for my 2nd son were Logan(im a big XMen fan) MY son had suggested Anakin, I also had Tristan and Forrest but after all that I let DH name him he ended up being Zachary Edward it kind of fits because he is definately a "Zach attack" aka(a small tornado)

some of the boys names that friends of mine have used are, Ryan Vallie, Keiryn, Fabio and another friend of mine named his dd Jessica ok pretty normal right? well their last name is James! Jessie James for a girl is sooo cute to me. I also knew someone who had 3 kids named Cliff, Brooke and Skye (yup she was a hippie) Good luck with whatever name you choose

I love the name Jackson, or could be spelled Jaxon..I think it is strong and masculine. It would make a good laywer name one day. My nephews are Zavier Austin and Zachery Alexander. I have friends whose sons are : Jacob Riley, Caden Andrew, John David, Aidan James, James Elijah, Noah Andrew,and Ethan Luke.

We have two girls and DH wanted to give them something that would sound pretty as they are being announced on the homecoming court.. He is thinking sooooo far down the road. I said, "Yes, and those names will look nice on their wedding invitations.. " .... He shut up after that..LOL

Wow! Thats weird...We lived in Philly and not one kid in his school was named Dakota We live in South Jersey now and there is no one in his school named Dakota.........He's almost 12 so maybe the kids you know are younger? I remember getting all kinds of looks when he was little. It didnt seem to become popular until Dakota Fanning(he wasnt too thrilled about a girl having the same name as him.

Anakin sounds nice, but do him the favor of a more common middle name that he could choose to use should he not be as big a star wars fan as you are!

<-------------- Big SW fan. I have heard of people naming their son Anakin before. My 2 are so into Star Wars that they called each other Anakin and Obi-Wan all the time. Once at a store I got the weirdest looks when people thought those were their real names. It sounds fun..... but I couldn't do it. I always picture the child as an adult with a silly or childish name. Also, I guess in my case especially because I use the names from SW for my dogs. I have a Phantom and a Jango. I've named pups Aurra, Daala, Jinn and Jade. I'm naming the next one Tarkin or Sidious (Sid for short) I couldn't name my kids and dogs the same.

I have one named Ian and he takes great pleasure in seeing his name in the credits of the SW movies. Ian McDiarmid plays Palpatine. Just a coincidence. He probably would have liked being named Anakin. Some people will love having a very unique name and others will curse the day their parents chose such a thing for them. If you like the SW idea you could consider some of the more typical names used in the movies or the EU like Luke, Ben, Owen or Jacen. The databank at the official SW site lists all the characters. Perhaps you could find something to will appeal to your SW desires while still being something a child wouldn't mind being called into adulthood.

Maybe sit down and watch Star Wars together and look for a name your might have missed that might work for you that is not so closely associated with the movie. Watching the credits might be a good idea. That way you know where the name came from and can share the story with him but less chance of everyone thinking star wars everytime they hear his name which might happen with Vader.
I still vote for Lucas.

We are sci-fi fans and decided to go with "spacey" names for our kids. My son's name is Orion Victor. I probably wouldn't do Anakin or Vader because they could have negative associations. I like the idea of Lucas or Harrison.
