I know this was on here already, but i searched and searched and cannot find the thread anywhere! :confused3 So this is our first time (DH, ME, DD8, DD5) and i have just purchased a new High sierra waistpack. Other than the obvious (tickets, $, etc..) I plan on bringing cam/vid cam, ponchos, ibuprofen, moleskin & bandaids, tourplans & ADRs. The kids will have their packs with their autograph books, pens, and some light snacks. What else do I need to bring along to the parks? I know all you WDW veterens can help me out! :goodvibes TIA

Ponchos

The day you don't bring them because
...its a beautiful morning it won't rain
...we are coming back to the room
...its too bulky, I really need xyz
etc. is the day it is guaranteed to rain. Trust me.

What kind of packs will your kids be carrying? Backpacks? Waist packs? I wouldn't want my kids carrying anything at all. I have a large waist pouch, and I carry all that stuff you mentioned, plus cheapo ponchos from Walmart. I bring alot of them, and carry one for each of us each day, and throw them out at the end of the day (if we even end up using them. Unless you have a stroller to kep the packs on, I think your kids will not be happy walking around with a backpack all day.

My kids have always been happy to wear their own waistpacks etc. I also make them carry their own drinks too.

we take a back-pack - so we carry too much - but a few things we have found handy:
baby wipes in a small pack or zip-lock bag
a small pack of tissues
chap stick with SPF
Pen and paper (the ones from the hotel are dandy)
little bottles of bubbles (the dollar store has them for weddings) for waiting in line

My kids are similiar ages to yours and we have been travelling to WDW for almost 5 years - my oldest is now 10. My children have never successfully carried a backpack for the full day. My DH or I always end up with it.... If your kids are willing and able - that is great!

Have a wonderful trip! The fanny pack sounds like a great idea!

I also carry a small container of sunscreen - to reapply during the day. This year I bought a set of plastic travel bottles and I filled one with sunscreen from the larger container.

It's our 1st time going and I was wondering if we should bring a waterproof, small backpack, so my camera and stuff won't get wet if there's a downpour or something. Can anyone recommend a good waterproof on that's not too expensive? TIA!

There is a big thread on the "Disney Tips" forum about fanny packs and what to put in them. :)

I am struggling with what type of bag to bring and how to carry everything I want to carry without looking like a mummy from all the straps! I bought a Nike mesh backpack yesterday that I will load up today and see what I think. There is no way DS will carry a backpack, and I don't think he would wear a fanny pack, even if I could find a small one.

In October DH carried a regular backpack, I carried a water bottle in a holder with a strap, we all wore badge holders around our necks, and we all had sunglasses on straps. DH also carried his cell phone in a clip on his belt, which kept it far enough away from his badge holder that it didn't de-magnetize anything. I put my cell phone in my pocket a couple of days, other days I locked it in the safe in the room. If you discover that you have too much stuff you can always rent a locker for the excess!

I thought I would have them pick out their own waistpack when we get to WDW. Definitely no backpacks for them! But keep the great ideas coming!

I am certainly no expert, as its our first time going as well. But Mousesavers has a link to ebags and that is where i ordered my waistpack. All the bags have customer reviews with them and alot of them are specific to using them at Disney. Also, you get the 20% mousesavers disc. The reviews on the waistpack i got were excellent and a couple specifically said they got wet on rides and their stuff stayed dry in it. :umbrella: Also, Its big enough for all my electronics, plus much more! Now it looks like other than sweatshirts/coats, which were hoping to tie around our waists, we wont need a backpack? Good luck with your search! :earsgirl:

They have (and have patterns for if you sew) really cute fabric backpacks. Probably 12x8 laid flat. Not big enough to overstuff - just big enough for what you need. They also have nylon Nike ones, but not as cute. Super light weight, I didn't even notice I had it on. I bring a little card fold over thing (like college kids use) in place of my heavy wallet, sunglass case (mine and BF's), single use wetwipes, sunscreen, chapstick, tissues, cellphone and a frozen water bottle. Gets lighters as the day goes on as I drink the water. I don't even notice it. Great for the kid-os. Put in a frozen drink box or two, again it will get lighter, but because it isn't constructed like a real backpack, you just don't notice it.
