Please don't read this if sad news brings you down.

My mum was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2010, 6 months after my Dad died. The illness is progressing quickly and she was asked yesterday to think about where she would want to die.:sad2: My poor mum.

I know that everyone is fighting their own personal battles. Sometimes it's easier to pour it out (reasonably) anonymously on a forum like this. I am trying to remain upbeat and I got her laughing again this afternoon, but I look at this frightened old woman and I feel so helpless.:sad1:

Thanks for reading.

Juliette, I never know the right thing to say to people but hope a couple of    will help a bit.

It's very scary when the tables turn and your parents need you to look after them. My mum needs a knee op but the routine pre-op checks unearthed a right hornet's nest of health problems resulting in a huge deterioration of her quality of life. Nowhere near as sad as your mum's situation but I understand where you're coming from.

I agree the boards can be a great comfort - it's like bending a friend's ear without having to burden the friend.

 I am so sorry to hear your sad news Juliette  I'm sending you, your mum and your family lots of love and hugs xxx

What ever happens try and enjoy the time you have left with your Mum
Thinking of you both at this hard time

sending lots of love to you and your family during this difficult time :grouphug:

Sorry to hear about your mum:hug:

That's exactly right, Elaine. I have so much going on at the moment, but I don't want to bring people down by talking about it. A lot of my friends don't even know about my Mum's situation.

Thank you to everyone for their kind comments. I am hoping to see my Mum's respiratory nurse soon, so that I can discuss what happens next. It won't be an easy conversation but I want to shield my Mum from all of that.

Hello juliette, unfortunately I have been in your position last year, and it is a heartbreaking one to be in  . I came here and poured out my heart a few times, I agree it can help. I just wanted to say if you wanted to chat feel free to pm me. Wishing you lots of love and PD. xxx

So sorry to hear your news Juliette. I too have been in your position. My Mum wanted to stay at home and made us promise that when things got bad we'd keep her there. We had help from some lovely people.

Enjoy your time with her, let her enjoy her grandchildren and remember to take care of yourself :grouphug::hug:

My mum hadn't even thought about where she wanted to be at the end. She doesn't want to deal with anything like that, so I have said that I will take care of it all.
