I read some post that lead me to believe that if you have a UY at SSR for Dec. you get your points for 2003 and 2004. Is that true? If I buy , how do I make sure I get Dec. UY so I can take advantage of the points?

We will go to the tour end of Oct.. does that mean our UY will be October?

Thanks again!
Deb

UY's are sold as they become available. Generally they are a few months out from when you purchase. This is so you are within the banking window when you make your purchase. I don't really think UY is very important. Unless you are in the habit of always changing your ressies at a month out from your vacation, I wouldn't worry about it. The ideal is to have a use year just before your usual travel date so if you have to cancel, you have most of your year left to bank. We usually travel in January, and have a March UY. If we ever had to cancel at 31 days out, we would not be able to bank our points from that reservation. It hasn't happend yet, and I don't see where it would happen unless there was an emergency or something.

So, if we have just started this process, are given UY 6/03, we don't have to worry too much about our vacation times in either late June/early July or late Oct/early Nov.? If I understand correctly we have until late Nov to decide if we want to bank 100%.

I could be wrong about this, but here's what I think this is.

Usually Disney offers "Magical Beginnings" where they offer you your points, with a backdated use year.

So say you buy with a Dec. use year. They may say..."Your contract will begin December of 2002 and you can either keep those points (and pay for them of course) OR we will buy them back from you at X dollars per point."

I was considering purchasing BCV -preconstruction and they offered a MB at $5 per point, but we took VWL instead (which we really wanted) and got a MB of $10 per point.

It also could be that they are telling you that you will have access to 2004 points, since you can always BORROW your points from the next year, however, you will not get any additional points for 2004 because you have borrowed them. So if you were to use all your 2004 points in early 2004, you would no longer have points available unless you STAYED in a borrowing mode from year to year.

By the way Dianeschlict- I go in January all the time too and I have an August use year. I did not realize the importance of use year when I purchased, but my guide must have......December is my last chance to bank 100% if we cancel 31 days out!

Yes, we are MB. We weren't planning on going back down until next summer since we just got back last month. So, we have 150 available on June 1, 2004.

DVC is NOT offering MB at SSR at this time. The current incentive is much better, since you will not have to sell back any points- the cost is simply $10 per point less for those who purchase 100 or more points.

A similar offer was made for BCV presales, except it was $5 per point- but, again, no points had to be returned to DVC. That offer was also not MB.

Enjoy!

See- I knew I was wrong. ;) :)

Just wanted to mention, if you do get the December Use year and get the 2003 points, just remember, the points are not available to use in all of 2003. When you have a December use year, the points start being available December 1st of that year. So you would get X number of points December 2003 and then X number of points December 2004. Of course in this case it would be whenever the resort opens and I didn't take into account borrowing and banking.

To answer the OPs question, SSR was first offered back in August with a December Use Year. Due to the response levels they have now moved to a February Use Year. If you're looking to purchase SSR from DVC now, you'll get the Feb Use Year with the first points allocated on 2/1/04, and the next to follow on 2/1/05.

This is something of an additional bonus for those buying into SSR now because the resort doesn't even open until May. If you finance through DVC you don't begin monthly payments or dues until May/June '04. You can't make reservations until May, but by having a Feb use year, you get your next years points after only 9 months instead of 12.
