This is about the darling little girl in St. Louis who was killed.

What the hell were her parents thinking about letting a transient person sleep in their house?

I'm sorry, but we all know that usually a transient person is definately not stable.

As far as I am concerned (this is where I ask forgivness if I offend anyone) these two parents should not be allowed to to bring any more children into the world.

Excuse me, but I find your statement to be unbelievably SANCTIMONIOUS and ARROGANT . Perhaps her parents DID make a bad judgment. I would guess that most parents on the DIS have made poor judgments at one time or another regarding their kids but have been much luckier. I recall that AL GORE let go of his young son's hand while crossing the street years ago, and the boy was almost fatally injured when struck by a car.

Judge not lest ye be judged . This poor child's parents are in their OWN Hell right now without the "RIGHTEOUS" judgments of others.........

God has always taught us to give to those less fortunate, and I believe these people felt they were doing the right thing by opening their home to someone who seemed to be in need.

I just think I might have done a little more research into his background before letting him stay...

I just wish we didn't have to worry so much about everything and everyone.

I'm sure it didn't cross their minds that this man was the kind of monster to do this to a child.

I know it didn't cross my parents minds' that my brother could do what he did to me.

Our children are not safe. We have to be on guard against just about everyone. From outside the home and sadly, inside.

I don't understand this myself. Why they would let a homeless man into their home.

In my mind, it is almost like the parent that leaves the gun laying around. Like child endangerment. But I do know that these parents will be in their own hell as Eros stated.

They will have to live with this mistake each and every day of their lives.

I live in St. Louis so there has been more in depth coverage here. The transient had actually at one time lived on that street and was known by the neighbors and local merchants. He wasn't a complete stranger. Casey's parents are currently separated with mom living on that street with her parents, long time residents, and Dad lives in a friend's house across the street to be near his children. The children wanted to stay with dad that night and mom stayed there too. Apparently the transient was temporarily living there as well (on the sofa) and had been living there for a week. No one suspected that this transient would harm a child. A very sad and tragic story. My prayers are with the family.

I am not angry newmousecateer because I have made similar quick judgements about news stories in the past. I am sure most of us have at one time or another. We are all human and not one of us is perfect.

Don't fret, Marilyn. I think the main things DIS folks get offended by are hateful, uncaring statements. You did not do that at all. Just an opinion you stated.

We're either ALL free to express our opinions or we ALL are not. This double standard is no longer acceptable to me. I find the idea that only the MORAL MAJORITY - which is neither, BTW - should be allowed to post to be more offensive than any picture ever posted here.

i dont think you should be too worried newmouscateer. I am sure the parents asked themselves the same thing - just like anyone who finds out a family member or friend has inflicted simliar pain on someone else.

This family tried to help someone in need and their hearts were in the right place - lets just hope their sense of community and good spirit is able to survive such an attrocity.

No doubt in each one of our lives someone will throw back all the help we attempt to give them, all we can do is hope that it does not cloud our judgement of everyone else.

Did you see this weeks Southpark??? It was making fun of all the media coverage on children that are taken. OK it wasn't that good but it does bring home a point.
This is going on ALL the time (child murder, molestation, missing). What were the stats? 2,000+ reported missing each day in the US?
So newmousecateer no offense taken. Some stories get singled out and gain national attention and some do not.
I for one will judge the parents as exercising poor decision-making when it came to having a paranoid schizophrenic transient in the same house as their children. I am sure they didn't think that the transient was (in even their wildest dreams) capable of such horror.
For me it reinforces my judgement that I use on my kids...

That's peachy. Thanks for reiterating what I JUST SAID. Either EVERYONE is allowed to speak their mind - even when it may be about the lack of a Supreme Being - or EVERYONE is not allowed to speak their mind. newmousecateer, it appears your thread is turning into one of those debates about who can say what to whom Don't worry about it.
You offered an opinion on a tragic news story, maybe judgemental - but you did preface it with an acknowledement that some might find it offensive. Then your statement is called "sanctimonious" and "arrogant". Then the person making those comments is defended for having an opinion while you are scolded for yours, and we get into the off-topic, big-letter, back and forth posts. UGH.

Anyway, no doubt you're not alone in being upset at the circumstances of the little girl's death. You don't have to apologize for your opinion, even uttered in hasty emotion!
