Sorry Gaston, They are MUCH More Interesting Than You!*6/8* NEW Trip Report Link p154

Love your addition, Cynthia!

I would really like to do one of the cooking seminars at F&W if I ever go back one day without a child in tow. Although, I know I probably wouldn't use my new-found cooking knowledge at home. :rotfl2:

Looks like y'all were really having so much fun this day! :thumbsup2

I would love to have one of those apple strudels right now. That was one of the things we tried and enjoyed.

I'll get to that cider in my next update I think! I wanted to get the escargot and then was too full everytime I was by there. YAY for going back, I want to plan another trip but just don't see it in the cards for so long it makes me really sad. Probably 2015, if I'm lucky.

That is very sad :sad2: I am sorry to hear that!

You never know, you might! If nothing else you might learn that mole, and for that matter a souffle is a heck of a lot easier than you think.

It was a great day, start to finish. Long but simply outstanding!

Apple strudel is the perfect food, it's an all day thing, goes with every meal, or in the case of breakfast could be the meal! Which reminds me, Magdalene (Flossbolna) gave me her recipe, that could be a very fun weekend project to try, it's been on my brain since I posted the picture.

That is very sad :sad2: I am sorry to hear that!

Oh that sounds worse than it is. 2015 is just the earliest that food and wine looks probable. I'd love go in 2014 and will still have my PAP but doubt my family will go for me ditching them for 2 solo trips in the same year. Unless I convince Jeff to go and have a great AP rate, it's a long shot at best

I do have at least 3 other Disney related trips planned, and a 4th bubbling in my head before then though. Currently it looks like Aulani in May (that's Disney related, right?), WDW for NYE 2013, Flower and Garden with Mary Ellen in May 2014. Outside chance of a DCL cruise the summer of 2014, or 15. After that I don't know but my current thoughts are DLR in Feb 2015 unless we do a summer cruise which would get me a few park days and the F&W Fall 2015. Worst part of the plan is a huge gap between the WDW trips (18m or so) but that isn't uncommon for me, I'm 3 months into a 14 month gap right now.

And I'm not quite willing to start running to try and finagle more trips.

Yet.

I am certifiably nuts. Ever since I wrote my update I've been considering making the dish. I had to run into the store on the way home from the gym last night and decided I'd look and see if they had tomatillos. What kind of weirdo attempts new random recipes late on a work night is beyond me but I had no other ideas for dinner (which coming up with, is the bane of my existence I swear) and the total time to make it isn't bad at all.

They had them! ($2.49 a pound) I present to you my first attempt at Mole!

The verdict?

It didn't suck! In fact it was significantly better than that. We will definitely make it again. So easy!

I am so excited to have learned this method of making sauce, it was ridiculously easy. Toss it all in a pot, mostly unchopped (love that part!), cook it till it liquefies and blend. Plus the ingredients are relatively inexpensive and easy to find at least around here. I did a few things differently but they didn't seem to impact it much.

It was a spur of the moment idea so I guessed on quantities at the store. I should have bought 3 serrano peppers, only bought one. To compensate I added in some diced (canned) jalepeno that I had, you can see both in the pot. Used dried cilantro instead of fresh and didn't include squash seeds.

Too funny, on the same podcast someone had gotten the Chili Colorado. He's going on and on about it and his wife pipes in that it wasn't real meat. He couldn't believe it. I did go to Terra later in the trip so that will get covered.

I'm with you though, in general I'm an equal opportunity eater but when it adds up $$ I did have to make some tough choices. That and you do get full eventually!.

thats what i had there, it looked like and tasted like meat chili, then a few hours later i realized what i had done, and i didnt hate myself.:thumbsup2

your right about the money adding up, it was nice to save all of my snack credits from the week and spend them all here.::yes::

Way to go Cynthia. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Kona makes a really great IPA but it isn't sold outside of Hawaii yet. On the big island, they have a brewpub not far from where you guys are staying. We liked it so much, we ate there twice! Super yummy food and you can get beer to go (in a growler) should you so desire. One of our favorite souvenirs from that trip is the pint glass (we had 2 but one broke) that says "liquid Aloha". They also have one on Oahu but it looks pretty far from Aulani. Doesn't mean we won't go there but only if we are headed that way so it will be a spur of the moment thing.

I had found the Kona Brewing Co. restaurant when I was researching the area and it was definitely on the list! Sounds like they have good pizzas there.

I love the catchphrase "Liquid Aloha"! :rotfl2: I think the pint glass will be coming home with me!

That mole looks good. Good to know its easy...I may have to try it soon! I love your kitchen and I covet your stove in a very big way. :) I'm living in a rental whose kitchen hasn't been updated since 1960....I so want a nice kitchen some of these days.

Nice job Cynthia! It looks great. You're a dinnertime heroine, and now Jeff knows why you needed that Disney trip.

I'm impressed that you have your own pot-cam!

That is awesome! Glad you found the ingredients. Now you have me curious... been craving mexican...and tired of the same ole dishes. I might have to consider trying this. Of course... I don't have the same kind of kitchen you do! :worship: that is an amazing stove. I imagine anything you cook on it turns out well.

Exactly! Honestly if they sold that brand of vegan meat here I'd buy it. I looked!

Very nice. If you had the quick serve plan I could see where that would be good. We considered it but because a lot of our dinners were at signatures, none of the dining plans really penciled.

Way to go Cynthia. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks! I was relieved it turned out, I didn't even taste it until we sat down to eat.

They have great pizza! We had pizza our first visit, I had fish tacos the 2nd (no clue what Jeff had though lol). Isn't that the best saying? I have a great hat from there but it just has the logo, I wish it said that on the back somewhere.

It was so easy, I loved it! Thank you very much on the kitchen, I rather love it myself. It is the only functional kitchen I've ever had and was so fun to design it around the way I cook. I was incredibly lucky to find a builder that let me turn a spec house into semi custom and gave me free reign in a lot of areas, most notably the kitchen. I was also really lucky to get the advice to think about how I cook when laying it out, I think that's been the biggest gift of all. She (my builder) fought me on a few things (the giant professional grade hood over the cooktop being one of them) but I got my way. :rotfl: Decades with hoods that didn't suck, literally, and then the constant fire alarms. Most hoods are not remotely big enough, they are supposed to cover I think 2/3 of the surface area of a cooktop to get the job done.

It may sound corny but it really does give me joy every day. I was just telling Jeff the other night (house is 8 years old now) that it's so cool to look at it and not feel like I regret any of the choices, or that it feels dated and that every single upgrade we did was worth it in spades. I can relate though, I spent a few decades in horrible kitchens with nightmare appliances or that were to difficult/expensive to upgrade for different reasons.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

I'm glad it didn't suck. It looks good, I'm glad it worked out for you!

I was relieved especially as I didn't taste test it at all or add a thing beyond the changes I made initially.

Nice job Cynthia! It looks great. You're a dinnertime heroine, and now Jeff knows why you needed that Disney trip.

I created a monster, now he wants me to make the kind with Chocolate in it.

I'm impressed that you have your own pot-cam!

:lmao:

otherwise known as...the iphone.

Yummy looking mole! Sounds like you had a nice dinner, well done, Cynthia! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

:rotfl2: Ok, I don't feel so bad for you now. ;)

No, I can't complain can I?

I knew at least one of my local stores carried them, they may all I don't know (and they are actually available whole, canned in the Hispanic section as well) but I wasn't sure if it was a seasonal item, I'd kind of thought they might not be there at this time of year. It is super easy and you definitely don't need much to do it. Pot, stove, blender. Done. Thank you on the kitchen, I absolutely adore my cooktop that's for sure and it gets a workout. It was definitely one of the bigger upgrades when we built the house and worth every penny. I would definitely not go so far as to say the stove makes everything turn out well, I wish! It is not terribly fun to clean though. :rotfl:

Your mole looks great! And I have to ditto everyone else with my kitchen envy!

Aw thanks, you guys are so sweet though it really doesn't show all that much of the kitchen, I was just taking pictures of the pot and blender lol! I felt guilty I hadn't tried to make it yet.

Wow you ladies did a lot in one day!

I love the new looks for Daisy & Minnie in circus town. so cute (even if they do need to fix the lighting there!)

I dragged Joe onto Barnstormer this summer, but he was too tall at 6'4" he just couldn't squeeze into the seat with me. oops! so I rode alone!

ME I love your creative filters and photo effects - what program do you use?

I just love your meets and your F&W photos. Cynthia, I totally get creating a spreadsheet to compare and make the most of your time there. That's how I would do it too- otherwise i could see feeling a bit overwhelmed with so many choices.

The wines look yummmmy. MMM I love wine.

Your (ahem) photo of the Moroccan building was ummmm interesting. Perhaps that IS what inspires the belly dancer:rotfl2:
I feel a little full just looking at all the foods you were able to sample. Wow.

Cynthia your mole sauce looks great. good for you for giving it a whirl on a spur of the moment plan. Sometimes things turn out best that way!

Wow, girlie!! I'm seriously impressed!! I live in Texas and have never attempted that sauce, had I known it was so easy I would have! And seriously impressed you had tomatillos in the store this time of the year! :thumbsup2
Major thumbs up on your stove! It's Beautiful. ::yes::

Wow! Y'all are kickin butt and taking names with your updates!! I have some serious reading to do!! :guilty:

I'm mildly freaking out, I've been checking DVC availability as my 11 month date is in 17 days and tonight is the first time I've seen a date gone for the room/category I want. Granted I didn't check in the morning but it's the first night that's been gone period in Dec so doesn't really bode well.

This is my fear :scared: We aren't ready to pull the trigger at 11 months out and I'm worried we may miss out since we are talking New Year's Eve! I'm hoping that since we won't be picky about view, we will be OK (fingers crossed!)

That F&W seminar looks really fun, sounds like something I would enjoy. Loved Cynthia's great detail about the whole thing. Fun!
What a great afternoon you gals had!
I love love love those painting carts in France. <3
I didn't even know there was a wine bar in italy... I'll have to tell my mom! Hahaha sounds like something she might enjoy!

Mary Ellen, I love your Christmas shots! Even though you didn't get the bokeh effect, they're still really nice! Looks like the problem was that you focused on the lights. You have to focus either on something 10 feet in front of the lights, or just manually turn the thing way out of focus. But still, love those shots!

Cynthia, good for you for making that sauce! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm half thinking of looking up a recipe like that myself!

All your Epcot pictures just confirm why World Showcase is my favorite!! SO much to see!

Cynthia - great job on making the mole sauce! And just sort of winging it? Amazing! That tile backsplash by your stove is beautiful! Did you or someone you know paint it? I'd love a fancy stove, but then I might be expected to do more with it than I currently do! That, paired with a family of picky eaters, seems rather a waste. But I am determined to expose them to more food choices! I know what you mean when you say planning meals is the bane of your existence. I'm near ready to give up! Too bad society still expects parents to feed their children...
