I know on the website it says:

Dinner attire is "cruise casual," meaning no shorts, swimwear or tank tops.

But the e-mail i've just gotten from Disney says:

Nice dining attire (no jeans or shorts at dinner, please)

Do you think that was a typo on the no jeans?

Hmm. That's new. I've never seen them use the word "nice" either. I wonder if they're changing the policy again. Jeans were on the list of "no nos" for a long time, and they took it off a couple of years ago. Maybe they're putting it back on the list?? Anyone else get this e-mail?

Was the e-mail for dining in general, or specific to Palo/Remy. Jeans are not allowed in those 2.

Jeans have indeed been a no no for a long time...........but not often enforced.....I do wonder if they are starting to enforce this and some other rules lately.......

They WERE a no no, but it was changed years ago....the current no-no's are: no tank tops, bathing suits, or shorts. The only place you'll find no jeans is for Palo and Remy. I double-checked the website this morning, and nothing has changed. I haven't received any e-mails indicating a change, either.

You are correct...........I mis worded that, but my point was maybe they are changing things.......per the op's email from disney and maybe starting to enforce rules more.

Full bit said:

Packing for Paradise. Here are a few tips on things to bring. For more details, be sure to refer to the Planning Center.

Days
• Onboard casual wear (shorts, slacks, jeans, long sleeve shirts)
• Comfortable shoes (sneakers, hiking boots, good socks)
• Port wear (Wool or fleece sweater, waterproof jacket. turtleneck, comfortable long sleeve shirts, hats, gloves)
• Comfy warm coats, gloves, hats.
• Nice dining attire (no jeans or shorts at dinner, please)
• Optional formal attire.

If that is the case, this is going to discourage a lot of families from eating in the MDR. Nice jeans are easy to pack, and easy to wear when you are on vacation. I see nothing wrong with them. If they are going to suggest this attire, or at some point enforce it, then they should change Cabanas from a sit-down dinner to a buffet like other cruise lines so people who want to be comfortable have somewhere to dine other than the fast food options on deck 11.

I don't think the "no jeans" is a typo. Just because some people have gotten away with jeans in the dining room doesn't mean its officially allowed and doesn't mean you should count on it being allowed when you cruise.

Jeans WERE allowed....said so in their printed material. The "no jeans" wording in the email received by the OP is new. Nobody was "getting away" with wearing jeans since they were allowed in the MDR's.

Personally, I do not think it will discourage many at all from eating in the MDR's.....when the policy was "no jeans" people still ate in the MDR'S...they were always full....so I do not think a new "no jeans" policy will change many minds.

I also think jeans are a pain to pack...they are heavier and bulkier than other items of clothing. I don't bring full length jeans on vacation in warm weather. I have a pair of denim crop pants that I would wear during the day around the ship or on an excursion and hubby usually brings one pair of jeans for travel to and from the cruise on the plane.

I think i'll ask my TA if they know of any change.

We're going to Alaska. I won't be wearing jeans I like to dress up, but DH will want to wear them with a shirt.

Good grief, Not only are jeans ALLOWED in the MDR but evidently so are shorts since people do wear them to dinner without reprisal. And as to 'getting away with jeans in the dining room' your tone suggests they have done something wrong- they haven't.

We DID bring jeans on our Alaskan cruise....they were practical for that type of cruise...excursions and during the day up and out on deck.

I personally don't see the difference between wearing jeans and wearing some kharki or other comfortable pants.

Why would any one not go to the MDR just because of this single factor?

This thread is starting to go into the direction of so many other dress code threads...

The point the OP was making is that an e-mail indicated that jeans are not allowed for dining....which is a direct contradiction of what the web site says....I don't think this was intended to be yet another dress code debate....

Thanks for everyone's input, not looking to start a debate was just wondering if anyone had any other up to date info given the e-mail and the website do not say the same thing. I've written to my TA so hopefully they'll be able shed some light.

In our email (we are on the May 19th Fantasy sailing) it didn't say no jeans. Here is what I cut and pasted:

Packing for Paradise. Here are a few tips on things to bring. For more details, be sure to refer to the Planning Center.

Days
• Casual wear (shorts, slacks, sundresses, jeans)
• Comfortable shoes (sandals, sneakers, boat shoes)
• Beach and pool wear (swimsuits, wraps, t-shirts)

Evenings
• Don’t forget a jacket or sweater. Yes, it’s the tropics, but the nights can be a bit breezy.
• Nice dining attire (no swimwear, tank tops or shorts at dinner, please)
• Optional formal attire
• Themed attire is welcome for Pirates IN The Caribbean night.

I totally agree...........seems some are making a big fuss over Jeans.

There are lots of pants that are comfortable and IMHO I dont see this as a issue, nor do I see it keeping many from the MDR's.
