Sorry another MJ question. Anyone else feel like the family should have helped?

I felt the same way as I was watching the memorial service seeing all his brothers sitting there and I was frustrated with them not doing anything. But later in the evening I was reading my People magazine (which we all know is gospel;) ) and it stated that several of the brothers were with him and a sister was on the phone and they tried doing an intervention. Of course, MJ denied any drug use, so they didn't push it any more. One would think that they are carrying the weight of his death on their shoulders.

BTW, I don't know what year this so-called intervention occurred as I don't have the magazine in front of me and I'm too lazy to go find it.

I think its a shame that people keep trying to find someone to blame or say they didnt do enough...

It was Joe Jackson's fault
It was the doctor's fault
It was the media/fans fault
It was the families fault

Michael Jackson was a grown adult man. He made choices. Did he have a lot of emotional baggage? Yes. Did he not have a great childhood that led to his emotional state? Yes. But at some point, you become an adult and its your responsibility to make your life work. The only one to blame here is Michael himself. He made the choices, he paid out the money, etc. At the end of the day , the vultures and those that were attaching themselves to him for benefit couldn't have done it without Michael's help.

So yes, there are understandable circumstances that probably led to MJ's psychological state, but in the end, its his life, and as an adult, he is the ultimate person responsible for it, no one else.

Also remember guys, we're not talking about your average individual. We are talking about "hollywood" and it's an entire different mentality. MJ has been in the public spot life his entire life. He's had people "yessing" him since he was 8. If you can't get a relative normal person to commit to rehab against their will, imagine dealing with a superstar.

I remember when the R&B singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash, they found that the plane was overloaded and the pilot had no experience. It later came out that the star insisted that they take off even when every one else wanted to delay the flight. Evidently she scream, threaten and basically pulled a "diva" moment to get her way. Unfortunately I think 6 other people had to die along with her because no one had the kahoonies to stand up to her.

I'm assuming that you have not been through something like this with someone close to you before. Feel lucky for that.

Yeah, I was just remembering the two interventions I've been involved in, one worked and the other was a horrible hot mess. I've done mini ones - one on one interventions and also done nothing but refuse to participate or enable the addict. While I'm not sure Jackson was doing anything but self-medicating because of a horrible mental illness and complications, dealing with addiction is heartbreaking to a family.

Did anyone watch this?

Any thoughts?

I did and I thought he was very credible. He has been treating MJ for 25 years. They seemed to have a personal relationship besides MD relationship. He said he would be willing to take a DNA test as he did donate sperm years ago to a sperm bank but is unsure whether it was used for MJ's kids. He said if it came out that he was the kids Father he would spend all his time with them. I liked him.

I like him too. Seemed like a responsible doctor. I also liked that he seemed very straightforward about the addiction issues -- good to have somebody like that available to the coroner as they conduct the investigation.

No offense meant but just because even if his donated sperm was used that doesn't make him the father. MJ was the father of those children and MJ's remaining family is their family. IMHO the person whos sperm was used really shouldn't have anything to do with this, nor should they have any say as to what happens to those children. Donating sperm or eggs doesn't make a person a parent.

As far as the OP, I would imagine the family did try to help but you can't help someone who doesn't want help. It's just not possible.

When a man uses and abuses his son; then yes it is his fault for the issues that person has later in life.

When a dr. continues to give drugs to an addict then, yes that dr. is to blame for the continued addiction. Which is why there is a law against and warrants were served in this case (Nancy Grace said this the night of MJ's memorial service)

There is a great deal of responsbility that fall on the man himself and the choices he made. He made the choice to lie and say that he was not addicted, he made the choice to continue getting plastic surgery and not seek help; but these are sicknesses of the mind that are triggered by something and the abuse of his father was one of those triggers. The doctor was an enabler after the fact.

I wish you had watched Dr. Klein on Larry. He said over and over again that MJ was their father, their dad and he loved those children with all his heart and soul. That whenever MJ and the kiddos would see each other whatever room they would be in, in the house, they were constantly over and over again telling each other how much they loved each other AND I believe that.

Dr. Klein states that IF he is asked by authorities for his DNA and IF it is determined he is indeed the bio father of MJ's kiddos he would be there for them 24/7 IF THEY WANTED THAT. :thumbsup2

Dr. Klein spent allot of time w/MJ and the kiddos, holidays, vacations etc. He knows them very well. He said he did not attend the Memorial as he found it better for him to spend the day alone. Larry asked if he has gone to Encino to Katherine's home to see all the Jacksons and he answered he will only go with an invite. He does not want to intrude. He said he was frozen for about 5 hours after hearing of the death of MJ.

Exactly :thumbsup2 I think people have to see the interview before they can comment on it.

And also wanted to point out, MJ and the kids weren't even living in the US for the last couple of years -- Dr. Klein saw the kids more than his extended family, apparently.

And getting back to the original topic, I'm astonished at the number of friends and family members who are being interviewed but hadn't seen MJ in over a year, including many members of his own family. I heard it had been 18 years since Brooke Shields had seen him. There must be people out there, other than Nurse Lee, who have seen them more recently than that?

Anyone ever get the feeling that PR people read the Dis boards? Funny how the OP started this thread a few days ago, and now they're coming out with information about how Janet tried to stage an intervention.

Just weird -- a few weeks ago on the JK+8 thread there was a discussion about how Kate should be wearing crocs instead of high heels -- a couple of days later there are pictures released of her wearing pink crocs. :confused3
