My DD played this last trip;
We also have cards from a prior trip.

My question is are the card packs themselves ties to a particular game, or can we add the prior packs to the collection and use them all next trip?

They are good for any trip. You can collect them all and try to complete a whole set

You can even use multiple cards per "spell." The pros will have a book of card pages and hold up all 9, which is apparently necessary at the higher levels. If you want to continue your game (assuming it hasn't been too long) make sure to bring whichever RFID media you used for the key holes. It will either be a key card specifically for SOTMK, a park ticket card, or a Magic Band. Your new Magic Band won't work to pick up where you left off as it's not connected to the MDE system or anything, just an RFID signature.

Yes, the cards are just generic, not linked to any specific game or account. Collect 'em all! Trade with your friends! You can definitely use old cards, complete sets, and at the higher levels, come up with combinations (well, you can do this at the lower levels too, but it isn't necessary; as far as I understand it you can not even lose in the first level).

My kids ate this game up!! They loved it and had to do all the lands while we were there, everything else was secondary for them. I did see a few other kids with their binders full of cards using them all at once. When we saw that we all tried to hold one card per hand to beat the levels.

Actually, there are even t-shirts that can grant a power boost of some kind if you are wearing it. The whole thing works with the camera, so all it has to do is "see" the images of the cards, t-shirt, whatever (it's simple pattern recognition) and then the game acts appropriately. I have never gotten that deep into it, so that's the extent of my knowledge, but it's a surprisingly complex game.
