I haven't been to Disney World since April of 2013. I recall hearing at some point that instead of going in to get the free pack of Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom cards daily with your ticket, you had to do something else (play?). I can't remember the details. Has this process changed for getting the daily free pack? I'm heading down in a few days.

Thanks!

You get a free pack of cards when you sign up and can get another once you defeat Hades. You can also get a free pack every day.

Each person in your group can get a free pack each day. We all use one key card to play with though.

This might be what the OP was referring to:

I recall hearing that Disney did not want to just "give out" cards to collectors on a daily basis any more. So after you received your first pack, you could not get a pack on your 2nd day unless you actually played at least one portal in the game.

I don't know if this restriction was ever implemented.

Yes that's exactly what I heard. Can anyone confirm whether this is happening?

Yes, I can confirm that info. You must be "actively playing the game" to get more cards. All that means is that you must scan your key card at a portal.

Cards are available at the Fire Station or by the Christmas shop in Liberty Square.

If you are going during MVMCP don't forget to stop by the Fire Department after 7PM for the card that is exclusive to the party.

So as long as you scan you key card at one portal you can get a 2nd pack? You dont necessarily have to finish the game? I only asking because my neices want to play but they might get bored with it before they finish...But I know they might want more cards..

You definitely don't have to finish the game in it's entirety. That can take several hours. I would think that you would have to at least finish one round (portal) but if scanning your key without playing the portal works than that's what I would do.

Just to clarify, you can get 1 pack per day per ticket/MB in your group. The game is segmented in sections, Liberty Square, Frontierland, Adventureland and Main St.

I am pretty sure you would be able to complete a section in less than an hour.

From what I was told if you are in the middle of let's say Main Street task, scanning your card at Liberty Square will not help. It will however show you your next station to find and once you scan your card there, you are good to go.

When I was there in September I needed to do the next portal in order to get the next set of cards. Though it did seem to depend on the CM.

When I was there last month, I had to play my assigned portal (not just open it) to get my next card pack for that day. Once I played that one portal I could get my card pack. When I came back the next day, I played my next portal and then went to the fire station to get the new card pack.

I make a note on my phone as to where my next portal is as I am not going to remember the symbol 2 months later!

So, if you play the portal you can get new cards the next day. What about the 'play at home' game that I have read about? Do they still sell these on Main St and do those cards work in the parks?

Thanks

This is what you are referring to. Yes, they are still sold at MK (as well as online). It is a huge stretch to call it an at home game. People buy these packs basically to collect the Lightning Bolt cards. It is the only way to get them (61-70). They are the same cards that are handed out, otherwise. The 'checklist' is also kinda neat because it lists all of the cards to be collected (not including party cards). Most people call these 'Booster Packs.'

Yes...if anyone is headed to MVMCP, the special card is ELSA and she is causing quite a stir in the card collecting groups. Going to see a lot of her on eBay. If you get one, people are trading two of the previous party cards (or lightning bolts) for one of her...so make sure you get a good deal : )

thank you Letsgoreds, that is what I was talking about. Hoping to get a few of these so that we can 'play' at home...it's a long way to WDW for us, so once we go this Dec, we are unlikely to get back for a few years.

It was in place during our Sept 2013 trip. After each free pack you had to play at least one portal to be able to get a free pack the next day. (let me be more cleaar, between being given one free pack and the next, you have ti play at least one portal. it could be the next day or many days later that you get your next free pack, but there needs to be a portal play in between).

When we did it, you did not have to *finish* a game, just play at least one portal.
