My boys ages 5 and 7 are very interested in playing this game on our upcoming trip. When we sign up in the morning will they allow us to choose which "mission" we want to go on, so we will be in the general area of the park that we have fastpasses scheduled, or is it randomly assigned?

Actually I guess I have a few more questions:

If we play together as a family, can each child receive the 5 cards daily or is it one pack per game?

If we do two missions on our first day in MK and two on our second day to complete the 4 areas, do they report back to the fire station or receive anything? I think from what I have read they just "up" their level to the next difficulty, is that correct?

You don't actually "sign up" for missions.

When you arrive at MK the first day, go to the fire station to get your map and register your magic band (that is the "key" that unlocks the portals). You will also get a pack of cards for each person playing. Every day that you enter MK each person can get a new pack of cards. If you attend any special parties (MNSSHP or MVMCP) there are also special event cards that are given out.

The missions to defeat villains are played at your leisure through the parks - but they are played in order starting with the first "practice" portal in the firehouse. Each portal tells you where to go for your next battle/scene, and if you tap into a portal that isn't next on your mission it will tell you the correct portal to go to. So to answer your question, you can't just bounce around out of order based on where your fastpasses are.

If you complete the mission and defeat Hades, you can go to the firehouse for a new pack of cards and you will level up to more difficult missions.

It's really a lot of fun! Sometimes the lines at portals can be a little long, and we had one day at MK last year where one of the portals wasn't working at all so we had to scrap the game for the day, but it's one of the things my kids are looking forward to when we go back this year!

Aah, Ok, thanks so much for the information!! They really enjoy doing the magic quests at Great Wolf Lodge so it sounds like this will be similar but on a larger scale. We're looking forward to it :)

We really enjoyed it. Each mission is in a particular part of the park; Main Street, Frontierland, etc. You can do one part of a game and then come back to the game later when you have time. There are also extra cards that you can buy at the shop along with a binder. My son loved collecting the cards too.

They may ask you which land you want to start in, but it depends on which ones have the fewest players at that time. If you ask I am sure they can start you on whichever land you prefer. If you do finish a complete round of the game (which is more than just each land as you will return to them to continue the story) you are given an extra pack of cards and advanced to a higher level (one where it actually matters which cards you play for the event - it is impossible to "lose" in the first round).

Ok, that is kind of what I was hoping... that we could start at either Main Street or Frontierland. I thought I had seen someone post that they had requested to start in a particular land before. Thank you for the information.

If a land is very busy they may not let you, but can probably talk them into it, especially if you aren't starting right away. Usually they may say something like "Do you want to start in Adventureland or Frontierland?" They may not offer everywhere. It shouldn't be too much of a problem though.

Also, one other note, in order to get your packs for the next day you deed to have played at least one portal. They want those getting cards to actually play the game.

Sounds fair! No biggie if we can't, but worth asking.

You also need to have the same magic band each day that you played the day before ( this is how it was when I last played) the mission take a while to complete you more then likely will not finish in one day but a few days ( takes a few hours to complete)

I have had no problem ask for a land to start in but then after you finish the land it just chose the land for you.

Make sure you keep using the same Magic Band to play the game if you play on multiple days. SOTMK doesn't recognize different magic bands, unlike the rest of the My Disney Experience stuff (fastpasses, tickets, etc). If you come in with a different magic band on a different day, you get to start all over.

They can put the same game on all of your bands,(and in the early stages they did this automatically if you didn’t request separate games), or....the way out family of 4 does it....DH and DD have one game on their magic bands. DS and I have a separate, 2nd game on our magic bands. Both kids like to play....esp. as they hit the preteen stage, so this worked well for us. When my DD was younger, she would tire of it faster than big brother so she and DH would head to resort pool while DS and I (really DS....I just tag along) stay and play several more portals on his game. You will split up most of the time if you choose to have two games because games send you to different portals even when you start in the same land.

Tip: keep your magic bands for return trips. We have played the same game across several years which allowed both my kids to eventually defeat the final villain and earn the bonus card packs. They also get to sign the Master Sorcerer (or something like that) book. They can transfer your game to your new magic band on future trips...but only if you have your old magic band from which to transfer it.

thanks for the tip re: transferring to a new MB- DD remembered we have to bring her actual band but was hoping to get a new band for our upcoming trip. Does everyone need their original band or can they look up the game using DD's and transfer to all of us? DH and I have no idea which of our 2 bands we used that day.

a tip we used was if we were directed into Main Street, we'd usually stop playing until we were ready to leave for the day - then play for a little bit before leaving, and then the next time we came back to MK for rope drop as we could play on Main street before RD started.

All 3 of us are on the same band. However, they have been giving us grief every time we get cards now. The CM swear that you can't have more than one player per band. I think we have been playing this longer than any of the CMs have been working at Disney, but they swear we aren't doing it right. I am glad that others do this; it makes me think I am not insane. I think we are going to give up trying to get more than 1 pack of cards each time. We have all of the free ones now anyway, except party cards.

I am not positive, but I believe they do need your magic band and your DH’s. I brought in all of our old magic bands...like 2-3 each b/c I had the same dilemma as you, and I remember them scanning through each of mine until they found it. Once I knew which magic band was right for me, it narrowed down for me which old magic band it should be for the rest of my family . Also, they always ask for mom and dad’s bands even though we don’t play...in other words, it seems if it was originally one game on two separate people’s bands it has to remain that way for the duration of that game. They won’t put it only on DS’s band even though he’s old enough to go play independently now. I never use my magic band at a portal or to play at all, but they seem to need to still put the one game on two bands b/c that is how it started out. Hope that helps.

You probably played with hard ticket and the original paper SotMK key card originally (like us) and now with how careful they are with assigned magic bands and not allowing crossover with those (when they cracked down on people getting extra fastpasses on old bands that no longer have tix media attached), it confuses their system. You’re probably right that current CMs probably weren’t even there when you started playing the game.

I don’t know why they give you a problem about cards, though. You don’t even have to play the game to get cards...you just have to have scanned into MK with a ticket for that day to my understanding??? Maybe don’t tell them you have a game...just ask for a card pack for each of you??? They will likely want to scan each of your bands as proof you entered park that day and are allowed a pack, though. LOL.

We tried just asking for cards, not specifying the number of packs. DS scanned his band, which is a normally linked band that he uses to enter the park and FP+. They then noticed there were 3 of us and asked us to scan the other bands. We have tried rescanning his band two more times, since that's the only band we have ever used, but they complained about that. We have tried scanning our own bands with no luck either. It's like they think the cards are worth a lot or something. We even just asked for 1 pack last time, and they gave us grief that there should be 2 other players. I don't know what they want.

We will be in Disney in June and think that my 7yo DS would love this game. I'm a little confused about the details and hope that you can help. Are there certain hours that the game is active? I know that the Agent P game in EPCOT ends around 6pm but I wasn't sure if the Sorcerers game has the same limitations. Also, I keep reading about the "cards". Are we able to get 1 free pack per person/day? What about the paid cards that have been mentioned? Do we need them for the game? If so, where do I find them and how much are they?

Thank you!!!
