Sorcerer Pass

I think this is the difference:

A new pass isn't active, and has to be activated. GR can check status at the time of activation. A renewal pass is active, and so someone needs to verify it.
Now that makes sense to me. Online isn't checking if you are DVC-Y or not, it just knows you are DVC so it allows you to purchase and then the activation process in person checks if you are actually DVC-Y.

If you call in to do the initial purchase is a stop at GR still necessary to activate? We'll be buying the Sorcerer's Pass for the first time this year. We've always done Incredi-Pass in the past.

Wife and I bought our first ever annual passes (the dvc one) and our first trip using them we never talked to member services and just tapped into the MK turnstile without issue. This was October last year.

Did you buy online or did you call member services?

You know what I had forgotten about that part, I originally tried to purchase online but there was an issue with payment so I had to call them to finalize the purchase. That was probably why we could skip checking in with them at the park.

When I in 2023 bridge my 14 days ticket to a sorcerer AP by calling ticketing I could also just walk right in to the parks. No need to go to GR first for activation.

We were within our renewal window on our trip last week, so we renewed at the Ticket Office. Even though we have the DVC Sorcerer Pass, I'm not sure if they contacted DVC Member Services to verify that we're still eligible. He didn't call anybody on the phone; maybe he did a chat with them to verify or had some other way of looking it up on his computer?

You're lucky. I had to go wait in line at Guest Services for what seemed like an hour to activate mine in September. Next time, I'll call and purchase because you for sure don't have to do the verification at the gate if you call.

I just called and got a Sorcerers Pass with Membership Magic Beyond on Friday Jan 24th. It took 10 minutes to buy the Membership Magic Beyond and then have them take the points in exchange for the pass. Since mine wasn't a renewal and my trip isn't until September, I Was told that I would have to go to Guest Services to activate it.

We are newly blue card members, just purchased this pass, and member services made it a point of telling us that we no longer needed to stop by GS to “activate this and could just tap in.

Edit: Mine was technically a “renewal” from an incredipass to a sorceror’s pass though.

Hi Anna, what process did you follow for going from the incredipass to a sorcerer? Im in the process of doing the same but trying to do it online or via the phone since our trip is booked in March once our passes would expire.

I just called member services when I was in my renewal window for the incredipass.

Why couldn't I renew my Sorcerer Pass online? I had to call member services. I was able to do it last year.
I just had to do the same thing. With having all accounts with Disney being the same login credentials you would think that they could verify membership status online. They ask the for the exact same information when booking a reservation or purchasing an annual pass.
I believe this may be on purpose, to up sell to the incredipass. The 2 reason I think this is.
First it adds friction to purchasing by having to call instead of just renewing through the app.
The second reason, which I believe this is because of a deceitful notification in the app. The page in the Disney app for renewal has a notification at the top that reads "The Disney Vacation Club Member Disney Sorcerer Pass Renewal is no longer sold. Select a new pass to continue."
If you are a new member or haven't taken the time to research that it is available you would be purchasing the more expensive pass without knowing there is another option.

I know I truncated your post, but this part just doesn't hold water for me. 2 minutes on a phone call with Member Services to renew the Sorcerer Pass versus buying an IncrediPass online is some pretty low friction relative to the cost savings. Renewing a Sorcerer Pass comes out to $904 with tax. Buying an IncrediPass online runs you $1,543, out the door. For us, that's a difference of $2,556 for 4 passes. Yeah, I'll suffer the "friction" of a 2-minute call to avoid paying an extra two and a half grand.

If you didn’t know this was an option? The renewal page in the app says NO longer a sold.
Doesn’t mention it is available by phone or even give a phone number.

And my guess is that most would call DVC or Disney to find out for sure before shelling out the extra.
