HI all my WISH buddies, Boy! I hate to sound like such a marter (<---spelling? lol) I mean, I am usually the life of a party but, I am in this horrible FUNK! Its been a week since I quit smoking! thats a definite I am not going back to it! I feel like I am past the danger zone. I also feel like I have used that as an excuse to eat everything in sight! ARRGGGGGGG! I can't even begin to list the things I have eaten this week........ it would be too long! I can;t get myself to get on my TM and I feel like a huge hipocrit being part of a challenge (valentines day)no less starting it! Thank goodness they are all doing so good on there!
See I tend to over do things, there is no gray area for me just black and white sooooooooo when i eat something bad, I try to shove it all in, in one night cause then I say ill start again tomorrow. I know alot of us are like this but I am really REALLY bad, I mean when its cheat time, you'd think that its last meal day for me. I eat even whenI am full already!

Anyway, this should be my first move back in the right direction! I like to think that posting means I am reconizing the problem and now I must do something about it! any of you ever get a funk? this long? I am just not motivated to do anything except walk to the kitchen and EAT!

Quitting smoking is a major life change not to mention that the taste buds that have become dull with smoke will now make eveything taste sensational! Maybe you need to plan one treat a day - something totally off program that you are allowed as long as you follow your program the rest of the day.

Great job with the no smoking - that is a hard habit to break!

Renee,
 I SOOOOOOOO know the feelings that you are having. On planned cheat days, I eat like there is not gonna be a tomorrow. It doesn't realy matter if I am full or not, there has to be something out there that I JUST HAVE to eat..regarless of how much I have already eaten or how full I am.

Now, you have to know that quitting smoking is not an easy task.......and you have conquered it!! You are a week into giving up an addiction!!! Not an easy thing to do. Be PROUD of yourself.

Like others have said, if you can find somehting to do with your hands, that may be just what you need to help. Is there a hobby that you have that you could turn to? Is there some kind of reward that you could do for yourself that doesn't include smoking or eating?

I know one of the things that I do special for myself, after I work out, I have this special LUSH soap that I love. If and only if I have worked out do I use that soap. Also in my rest days, if I have been good and done all my workouts, I treat myself to a nice bubblebath using my favorite bath stuff.....candles and the whole shabang. Would a bath help relax you when you would rather smoke or eat?

Just know that you are making it through!! I am so proud!!! Keep up the good work....and should you ever just need to vent.....leave me a PM.......

Keep on keeping on!!! I know you can do this!!!

Renee, I am so proud of you for quitting smoking....I musta missed that thread! :cool1: I am clueless as to the effects of smoking on eating but I understand it does increase your desire to eat. All I can offer you is support. :grouphug: That funk you have is something we probably all have at one time or another. Realizing that you have it is a start to kicking its butt! Get strong you can do this and you know you can. Don't beat yourself up just take things moment by moment and talk yourself outta tha kitchen!! Back away from the kitchen!! :scared:

Soon you will be   Start talking positive to yourself!!

We are here for you! :thewave:

Quitting smoking is such a HUGE accomplishment, Renee. Don't beat yourself up about what you've done during the past week, a week of huge transition. I have never been in your position, but if I may, I would suggest going forward from here. I, too, have had the experience of "I'll just finish all of this tonight and start fresh tomorrow." There was a funny thread a while ago on the Weight Watchers board where someone took all the tempting food out to the outside trash can without even taking a bite. Someone else posted and said they had actually SPRAYED a cheesecake with windex to keep herself from taking a bite. I cannot tell you how effective it has been for me to just throw away food when I know it is tempting. The other thing I have done is serve it to my family while I go work on the computer (come here for support) or go walk on the TM.
It's a battle, for sure, but you have already proven to a lot of awestruck people here that you have incredible willpower!
Good luck!

Renee-Awesome job quitting smoking! I can't imagine how hard it is since I have never smoked, but some people can't ever do it, so consider that accomplishment.

I can relate to the "I've already eaten this & that (& that & that & that...) and now I can just write off the day & start over tomorrow". But you have to remember the positive changes you have already made. One slip doesn't mean you fall off the cliff, you just need to dig in a little harder next time.

Glad you posted, sometimes putting it down for everyone to see makes it easier to forgo something, especially when you feel that you need to be accountable to someone other than you.

Good Luck!

Hi Renee,

You are doing so well with quitting smoking. I can't possible imagine how difficult it must be for you. You have been given some great advice and encouragement from the other posters. We are all here to support you. Post anytime. I think it takes so much courage and strength of character to come here and say that you feel you have messed up but that you're ready to pick yourself up and keep going. I know you'll continue to kick the smoking habit and you'll get a handle on the food issues too.

{{{hugs}}}

Renee, You should be soooo proud of yourself for quitting smoking!!!!! Don't beat yourself up right now. Try to fill the house with healthy things to snack on. I know you don't feel like exercising yet, but maybe do 5-10 minutes on the TM every time you want to snack. At least you'll be getting some exercise in.

You can do this!!!!!!!!!!! MAybe set gooals for getting back on track. Next week I will _____________. The following week I willl _______________.

Good Luck!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

WOW! you guys what great response......Now I know why I keep coming back here. After that post ( which was only like an 1 1/2 ago ) I reread my thread! and began to think, then my friend called who has really helped me witht his smoking thing. She insisted I get on my Tm immediately! lol.........she wanted to feel the difference the TM makes when you dont smoke! I argued and said "yvonne, its only been a week, I am certainI won't feel any difference". She inisted I would! So I can;t stand to be wrong, I set up the TM and She was 100% right! :worship:
I did 4:30 in 60 minutes and then cooled down. Now I have done this before but, whenever I did 4+ miles, I would really have to push myself and I would be drenched when done. I would feel good that I finished but really feel like I put myself through a ringer!
Today, didnt feel that way at all..........I barely broke a sweat and it came easy! I was not short of breath and was able to jog almost all of it ( I did stop a few times ).
Most importanly, I didnt have to push myself to get this distance! She was certainly right! One week does make a difference. As I mentioned before, I have no intentions on smoking again! After this week I have been through, i wouldn;t even think about it! I know for sure I am done with it! No one need worry about that! I just really need to get my butt in gear with the food thing and have no more excuses.......
I think perhaps, I will take the advice on having one treat a day! And my mini goal for this week, will be to get on the Tm everyday! glad I posted cause I seriuosly came close to "writing off" today....I already had a bagel and a small bag if cookies! I was gonna begin tomorrow "AGAIN"
Thanks again all, I think I will actaully postin my journal this evening! lol

Way to go Renee!!!!!!!!!! And tell your friend thatnks from us!

I whined to be part of your challenge even though I didn't have 8 pounds to lose....let's just say--I do now :teeth: .

My mother tried years and years and years and years to quit smoking and she finally did it...it took her 2 tries for a hypnosis program to be successful and the funny thing is--she is now REPULSED by smoke...had to clean everything in her house top to bottom to rid the smell.

She's always been a light eater...so I'm not sure if she's binging or not.

They said something on the radio once....

"The difference between Success and failure is trading what you want most for what you want now"--and giving up those cigs is more important than a diet!!!! Kudo's to you for not giving in to smoking.

You'll get back on the bandwagon for your new healthy way of life!!! When you find yourself walking to the pantry--turn right around and walk straight to the TM....then have a snack aftewards (a healthy one!!!).

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

:cheer2:
:grouphug:

Renee hooray for you and your lungs. They will soon be pink and pretty again. :cheer2:

:moped: GIRL!!! You are scootin now!!! :) HUGE KUDOS TO YOU FOR DOING WHAT YOUR PAL SAID!!! Most would have just blow off her advice and headed for a double decker sandwich...not you, baby! ;) You put that first foot on the treadmill and after 10,000 steps or so you learned a valuable lesson!!!

Can it get any better? WHY YES IT CAN!!! Each day you go without smoking is a gift to your lungs and all those around you for years to come...even though it may not come with a bow around it...it's one of the best gifts...so don't think this is a struggle but one of those self-sacrificing moments when your hard work will pay off in spades. It just takes time :hourglass and you're gonna shine! :daisy:

We're sooo proud of you!!!! :grouphug:

Tara

Do not beat yourself up. You've made a HUGE life change for the better and kicking any addiction is hard. Pat yourself on the back for this accomplishment and instead of walking towards the kitchen, walk right out that door and bust a move!
