Hi all

I'm feeling so down at the moment:sad2:, I would love to go to disney this year but can't:worship:. I'm in a catch 22 situation. My reasons for going are vaild:yay:.

I'm stressed from work:scared1:
I'm bored:upsidedow
I seem to just work to live(that can't be right)
I need time away from the family:yay:
I need 14 days in the sun:woohoo:
I want some poyeye chicken(i really miss that):cloud9:
I want to use my new digital camera:thumbsup2

Reason I can't go:

Money(i have none)
I only have £265 saved:sad2: (i'm a single traveller)
Most of the good dates are booked out as holiday at work by other people:mad:
I won't have much spending money($600 the max)
People think I'm mad spending time in a childrens park(they have'nt been, so they don't know):wizard:
I have'nt won the lottery:sad1:

Any suggestions on how I can get there by the end 2009:surfweb:

I know how you feel, I'm just back 4 days ago and NEED to go again soon!

Why worry what other people think though - its your life, do what you want!

Re money - things I am doing at the moment:
overtime
ebay selling (NOT buying!)
survey's
cashback

And don't forget - it'll still be there in 2010 if you don't make 2009.

Best of luck.

x

Sorry to hear you're sad about not going

Have you looked at all your options like indirect flights, staying offsite, going for 1 week instead of 2?

Sometimes you can get cheap last minute deals.

On the other hand you could maybe plan for a holiday early next year - with the money you save by not going in 2009 you could have a really great holiday in 2010 - treat yourself to an upgrade etc?

Hope some pixie dust comes your way! :wizard:

Hi Maureen - Like you - I haven't been in a while (2006) and can't go until late next year.

But look on the bright side - if you only go every few years, you really appreciate more. It gives you time to save longer, so you don't feel guilty about splurging more. And you'll have more time to plan - and as we all know, the planning is a huge part of the fun.

Hi Maureen,
Sorry you are feeling really down.
I felt the exact same thing as you in 2007. Things were really bad at work and I was beyond stressed and depressed and I really wanted (and deserved a Disney trip.) But I knew we could not afford it so we did not have a holiday at all that year. But we saved really hard and I looked forward to a trip in 2008 which I knew would be extra special. I spent the 2 years researching and planning and when we finally took that trip it was amazing and definately worth the wait in the end.

This year we too weren't supposed to have a DIsney trip either. We know we were going back for Christmas/New YEAR 2010/11 and I have been researching that trip a lot and have planned some extra special things to do when we get there. We were in the fortunate position this year that a few weeks ago we realised that beause DH and I had to do quite a bit of, and rather unexpected overtime so we could afford a trip this year, only because of free dining and the fact that we are not going for as long as usual.

If I were you I would see what ways you can get extra money; overtime, ebay, general saving etc and research and plan an extra special trip for next year. For me once you now you are going and you start planning that makes me feel better, even if the trip isn't until the following year.

I totally agree with the above posters - I also relive trip reports when I want a bit of the magic :wizard:

Hi Maureen,

It's an awful feeling knowing that you're not heading back to a place you love in a certain year etc, but please try to remain positive and know that even if you don't make it back in '09, WDW will be there in 2010 and onwards :goodvibes

I had a 10 year break from going to the World, from 1998 to 2008 and every year I longed to head back there - and boy, once I got there it was the most amazing trip in the world! It was well worth the wait!

I know this advice may not help with you feeling down, but just keep remembering that one day, you'll get back there and that others may NEVER go or get back there again. I always count myself as one of the lucky ones - someone who's experienced the Magic on more than one occasion, when I know many people who'll never afford to get there in their lifetime.

 Chin up and keep saving, you'll be there sooner than you think!

:thumbsup2 I think posting on Disney boards regularly can be a double edged sword if you know you're not going to Disney that year or for several: One the one hand it's like-minded people to chat with and some pixiedust in everyday life but sometimes it can seem like everyone else is going etc. I just try to tell myself that everyone has different circumstances and the DIS is unusual compared to 'real life' (most people I know have never been to a Disney park or have only been once or twice) Personally I wouldn't get into debt to pay for a holiday (got myself in a mess with credit cards before and all it meant was having to make sacrifices further down the road when if i'd just been more sensible at the time I wouldn't have had to) but i'm happy to go without or cut back on a lot of stuff 'most' people do through the year to afford to go. I also seem to be slowly selling the contents of our flat on eBay :rotfl2: Happy planning, 2010 will be here before you know it :goodvibes

:)Thanks for all your kind comments.

Chances are I probably won' t get to disney by the end of this year:sad2:. I'm trying to save at the moment, but i only £265 saved so far, so I'm not far off the price of the plane ticket:yay:. Only need to find hotel and spending money.

I've got a pay rise coming in August :woohoo:for about another £125 in my wages each month. So i'll pretend its not there each month and set up a standing order to whisk it out of my account each month. That way it can go towards my future trip.

A good friend of mine did offer to give me the money to go as he could see I have'nt been happy in a long time. But I declined his offer, I've always
been taught that borrowing money from friends can ruin a relationship.

Hang in there Maureen - it sounds as though you have already decided that another trip WILL happen, it's now just the finer details that need sorting out.
I echo the suggestions about ebay. It's amazing how much stuff people have in their homes that is just taking up space that others will pay good money for. If you haven't sold on ebay before I am sure there are lots of people on here who will offer advice - and if you let us know when you list your items we will all have a look and help the bidding along.
Good luck with your planning and I look forward to seeing your countdown ticker appear at the bottom of you sig.
