Free Pin at Auto Plaza
Starting December 18, Disney World will be giving away a certificate for a free pin at the Theme Park Auto plazas. The certificate can only be redeemed at Uptown Jewelers in Magic Kingdom, Pin Central in Epcot, Sorcerer Hat Shop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Island Mercantile for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The certificate is only good for the day it is issued. This offer only applies to guests that pay for parking and receive a parking pass and does not apply to Annual Passholders and Resort Guests.

I wonder if it will be for a certain pin, or for any pin of a certain value?

Cool ... thanks for posting that, as I hadn't seen or heard of it before. We will be staying off-site and paying to park every day. I'll take any "freebie" they want to pass my way. pirate:

Oh, this is a nice touch.

We will be there in Feb for 2 weeks, hitting the parks for 10 days and paying for parking. This will be a nice way to start a pin collection for my 3 kids, and since I would be parking anyway its just a nice bonus.

Thank you for sharing this info.

This is why I love the DIS! :cool1:

Merry Christmas :santa:

I like the "What will you celebrate" link at the end of the article.

"What will you celebrate?" "Paying for parking cuz we get a pin" :rotfl2:

OK I have a bizare sense of humor

That sounds great - I can't wait to get one of those!

Well it did say Dec 18th, so you probably should check back tomorrow :)

Has anyone gotten one of these pins yet? Just wondering if it is a special pin or if you get to pick one from a set couple. Can anyone post a picture?

Nevermind. Just found out that you just pick a pin out of a bucket and it's not even Hidden Mickey or Limited Edition pins. What a bummer!

Here's my thoughts on this.
On our trip 2 years ago, we were able to get our DDs to resist the pin trading. I know this sounds mean, but we are on a tight budget and pin trading can get expensive quick. Our trip last month my DD6 was given 3 Tink pins (one for her and one for each sister) by a CM for using kind manners when buying a bag of rocks at WL. Our DD9 wore hers for a while until a CM she was talking to was explaining trading. She traded him for a Pluto pin. She loves it, but it gave her the bug (which her sisters caught). The girls spent a fortune on their pins (their own money) and had a blast trading for better ones. I don't mind that they did it, it was their own money and they had a blast doing it, but had they not gotten the first free ones they would have very likely not spent the money they did on their pins. I think giving away one pin can very likely get people hooked on what is no doubt a HUGE money maker for them.

Now my girls want Santa to bring them more pins. "He" did buy them each one before we left, so that's good. But I will be suggesting that the Easter Bunny buy a bunch on e-bay that he can leave in their baskets since Santa doesn't have a lot of time left before Christmas.

Why would they give Limited Edition pins for "free"?

We got our "free" pin today...we parked at DHS, the certificate for the pin is part of the parking pass (you tear off the "coupon" part). At DHS you turn it in at the Pin Trading place under the sorcerer's hat. DD got a High School Musical pin today, worth $7.00. Probably not a pin DD would have purchased, but she loves trading with the CM's, so it will be good for that. The lady there told us it would be a different pin at each park.

This is genius. It drives offsite guests to a merchandise location, where they might buy something else, whereas onsite guests are already probably doing all their souvenir shopping with the Mouse. It lets Disney dispose of "old" pin stock without remaindering them to a Character Warehouse.

Genius.

So, you are complaining about getting a free pin? Now it has to be a limted edition or something? Some people are just never happy.

That about sums it up, they didnt get where they were today by being bad at marketing ;)

Ayup. They can only end up with so many of the same "cutie" pins on the lanyards before no one wants them any more. And by doing this they increase the chance that people will actually take the pins home instead of then lingering on the lanyards forever.
