Well, it's time for a new camcorder. DH has it narrowed down to the Sony TRV38 or Sony TRV33. Does anyone out there own one of these camcorders? If so, how do you like it? Any reviews would be appreciate. Thanks in advance!
1) Was 10X optical zoom enough? Canon's had 16 - 22X's.
2) Did the big display on the 38 eat batteries?
I got lucky. I sat next to a couple filming their son at soccer. You should have seen their face when I asked "excuse me, is that a Sony trv38?". They love the camera. They were able to zoom in on their kid down at the other end of the field. They said the battery "lasts forever". They bought a spare but never used it.
The third thing I worried about was the price. The 33 is about $600 at a reputable on-line store, the 38 is around $800 (and up). $200 for only a bigger screen was hard to swallow. I got lucky again tho. OneCall actually has the 38 on clearance for $596, $3 less than what they want for the 33. Heres that link: http://www.onecall.com/ModelSearch.htm
Last thing. You'll see lots of them for sale from various sources. Sony's on-line help person said to stick with their authorized online resellers if you want to be assured of minimal hassles if you need warrenty work.
