sorry to be so quick...and sorry if already discussed. but we're looking at upgrading to a dslr (had a film one, but digital was a little too much until now)... and we are wondering if the sony a100 camera is a good camera?

the reason we want to go with that is that we have older style minolta lenses (still autofocus) that our local camera store said would work with the new dslr.

anywho... just wondering... thanks in advance.

If you have Maxxum lenses, it is my understanding that they will work with the Sony. I faced the same situation about six months ago and, even though I had (and still have...) quite a few Maxxum lenses, decided to abandon Konica/Minolta/Sony, in favor of Nikon.

I have the Sony Alpha and think its a great camera. I wish I was in your position already owning KM lenses. It will save you a fortune. :thumbsup2

There's no bad DSLR - if you already have lenses, then it's pretty close to a no-brainer. You'll have to look hard to find an unhappy DSLR owner of any model. :)

the sony alpha 100 was voted camera of the year, it is an excellent camera,

that said, rumor has it that sony will be releasing a newer model by years end and a high end possibly pro level model in '08

contrary to some rumors I've heard about sony's service I recently had a great experience with them...

I had a minolta 5600 flash unit die on me, sent it out for repairs only to discover that parts weren't available to fix it, the repair center gave me the number for sony service..

I paid 250 for the flash 2.5 years ago, it was out of warranty as of 1.5 years ago..

sony gave me 160 for it...they very easily could have said sorry it's out of warranty, but they really want to keep former Minolta followers in the new sony family..

I've had good luck with Sony service, also... my wife's Minolta X20 went bonkers last year, and it was covered by a recall, they did a quick job of repairing it and shipping it back to us. I was completely satisfied with the service.

Of course, soon afterwards we bought a newer camera for her and decided that the low value of the camera ($40 or less, probably) meant that it wasn't worth putting it on eBay, so it's just been sitting since then... but it's nice to have as a backup.
