I just recieved a Sony cyper-shot digital camera for my birthday/wedding present yesterday. Does anyone else have one, hoping to get any tips, etc...
:teacher:

I have the Sony Cybershot DSC-T1. Super small and has a big screen on the back.I love how portable it is, fits great in a purse or in a hip pouch, but I am not real thrilled with photo quality. I have a big Olympus Camedia C-400 digitial with the same optical power and a zoom lense and the photos are much better. To big to lug around all day. So I will bring both, the portable Sony for basic photos in the park, the big Olympus for the character meals where I will do more close ups that I want super clear. Also, spent the extra money for the 1GB photo stick so that I don't have to download or carry extra photo cards.

Tips: Get a big memory stick -- Yep, 2by2kat is absolutely correct. Unless you plan on downloading to a laptop in your room each night, I'd get a 1gb. If you're bringing a laptop, then a 256 may do the job.

Batteries -- Learn to change them in the dark. Also, while it's really nice to use the LCD screens to line up your shots and check your photos, beware they eat batteries as a snack. If your battery is getting low and you haven't a replacement handy - shut off the LCD display. You usually save anough battery power for one or two more shots.

I have a Sony Cybershot and I've gotten countless praises for the pictures it takes! It's only a 2.1 megapixel and everyone that I tell that can not belive it! It's the best camera I've ever had!! I got the rechargeable battery and aslo a huge memory stick. Holds thousands of pics. I can't wait to use it in 29 days! woohoo!

Its a 4.1 mega pixels 3.0x zoom and is a dsc S90. Mom bought me a memorey stick....think its only 128 mb?????? We are taking our laptop with us. We promised everyone that we'd take pics and send them at night. We have the battery charger, should we get an extra set of batteries also????

Kinda new to the digital camera world :confused3

You definitely need to get a bigger capacity Memory Stick. Look on the upper right of your view screen and it'll tell you how many photos you have room for - You can find 512mb memory sticks at Best Buy or another electronics outlet for less than 75 dollars, and you'll have room for a whole day's pictures.

I'd definitely have a spare battery - you can charge up overnight and keep a spare charged one handy in case.

and I'm really happy with it. I agree with the advice to get extra memory stick(s). I've always gotten by just fine with the original battery that came with mine - the infolithium batteries seem to last a really long time, but I did get an extra for this WDW trip, just in case. The best tip I can think of is to be sure you use the focus lock if you have trouble with any delay between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken. I wouldn't say that's a huge problem with my particular Sony, but it seems that most digital cameras have that problem to some degree. Have fun learning about your new camera! What a treat!

Wow...how many pictures do y9ou guys take??? I guess that I am use to using disposable cameras with 27 exposures. I usually use 2 0r 3 cameras per trip. Just don't take a lot of pics.

I didn't use to take tons of pics either, but for some reason with a digital I take way more pics than I used to. And that seems to be pretty common. Not sure why exactly... :confused3

I have the same Sony camera as you and my other camera is an Olympus (which is way bigger).

I just got my DSC-T1 and I was wondering what memory cards you are using with it. Do you strictly use the sony cards or have you used other brands? And do you get the memory stick pro duo cards? I can't decide what type of cards to get for the darn thing. I got it mostly so I could have something less bulky when I go out with friends, but I'm thinking I'm going to bring it to WDW for a test run.

I have the Sony cybershot dsc-p71 and also the dsc-h1. The dsc-p71 has 3x optical zoom and is 3.2 mega-pixels. The dsc-h1 I just got back in June and so far I love it. It is 5.1 megapixels and has a 12x optical zoom and image stabilizer, it also has 32mb of built in memory. I love the zoom and the image stabilizer allows me to take great shots from far away. The fireworks pictures in my sig are from this camera.

I am leaving on Saturday with this camera 2 gb of memory and about 3 sets of rechargeable batteries. I doubt I will need the batteries since they last a long time. I still use my rechargable set from dsc-p71 that I bought in 2001 and they work great.

I have used Sony memory cards, Lexar and Sandisk and haven't had a problem with any of them. I gotta go and get packing.

I have a sony 4.1 mp, and I looovveee it...the picture quality is great and the battery life is really good.

I noticed Staples has their brand of memory card for digital camera on sale this week... 512 for around 30 something and the 1gb for 60

Does anyone know if these would work good in the camera??? I am borrowing my Dad's sony.... I love pics... i usually go thru his 1gb quick..

Thanks for reading.

Just checking this thread out as we own a Cyber shot as well, we love it. I noticed a lot of posters refering to memory cards and using them quickly. I bought a flash drive about 2 months ago and it is incredible. Click here for info and purchasing options. I bought the 20 GB refurbished and it works great. It looks bigger in the picture than it really is, I was surprised how compact it is. So now we are taking 2 256mb cards and this baby along with no need to worry about memory space. We tested it on our trip to Busch Gardens in August and it worked wonderfully. I think the model i bought is going for $99 right now, just a little cheaper than a 1 gb memory card. I just kind of thought this made more sense to buy this instead, and it certainly beats lugging the laptop along.
Hope this helps :goodvibes

:Pinkbounc BUMP!!

I am still confused about the memory cards and the flash drive. I would like to NOT have to download the pics everyday. I am willing to buy a new memory card. Can I just change them at anytime? I am a newbie with this, so please excuse me! I can understand now why people take so many pics!! You aren't wasting the film and are able to see first hand if its a bad pic!! Really cool!!!! But still confused! I guess I need to take the camera to Best Buy and ask them!! Thanks!!

Anyone have a Sony Cybeshot 7.2 (DSCP200)? Looking @ this model for a January trip. We don't have any digital experience so this is a whole new world. Any help or ideas appreciated.

I'm thinking of buying the cyber shot 4.1 mp dsc 40- it seems nice, looking for decent price on a 1 or 2 gb memory stick....sony feels good in the hand any advice? the price for this is so-o-o right :cool1:

JerseyJ-
I just bought a sony cybershot DSC-W5. I looked at the DSCP200. It gets great reviews - did not like how it felt in my hands - seemed ackward to take pictures to me. The fact that the W5 uses AA batteries also swayed my decision. There are several sites on the internet with reviews and sample photos. Steve's digicam, dcresource and dpreview to name a few. Good luck with your decision!
