If you got a free Sony Blu disk player would you keep it or would you sell it?

Depends on the current value of it, but you could sell it now and probably buy an equivalent player in 6 months for a lot cheaper.

Okay, so you got it because you won it or you purchased a TV that had it included as a freebee.

Do you plan on investing in BLUE RAY discs? If so, you just saved yourself a chunk of change.

If not- you might as well sell it and either offset some of the cost of the TV or use it for something else you're yearning for.

Good luck!

We are getting one free with the big screen TV we are buying. I searched online and it is worth about $350, but DH and I are split on what to do with it. I watched part of POC on Blu Ray today and it was awesome, it looked like the actors were standing in the same room as I was. I am of the mindset to keep it, DH wants to sell it. I am thinking that Blu Ray technology may really take off and prices for movies will come down, he just wants to make a few bucks. I was asking to see what others thought.

Thanks for your replies so far, I appreciate it.

I had that feeling!

Well, the technology is kind of new, and going head to head with another technology- winner take all like BETA and VHS did for video tape.

The price of the movies and the players might come down- so you might want to get a better price for it now and buy another later when the prices come down.

That way you'll get the best of both worlds!

Time warner is only going with Blu Ray so they think they will be the clear winner much like VHS. I'd keep it.

I agree with Luv2Nascar. At this point it appears BluRay is the victor in the hi-def DVD battle. Sony lost the last battle over video tapes, I think they were bound and determined not to lose another battle of this type. The rumor for MACWorld this week is also that Apple will throw in with BluRay. I'm just waiting until my TV goes and I need to get a new one before I get the hi-def dvd player. If the tv doesn't go before next Christmas, I may get the new tv then.

It looks like a bunch jumped on the BR bandwagon this week.

HD will die a slow death like Betamax

So yes keep it and start your collection now.

It does seem that Blu Ray is the victor.

Heh. It's about time Sony won a format war!

Sony isn't getting the best reviews for their Blu-Ray players(the PS3 being the exception). Knowing this, I'd sell it and get a different brand when the prices come down. When the move from analog to digital TV comes in 09, many people will get into hdtv and the demand for hi-def disc players should make the prices come down. :)

That said, I've had HDTV for a year now, and I don't think I can wait much longer to get a Blu-Ray player. I've begun purchasing the Disney Blu-Ray titles because I'm afraid they'll go out of print like the first DVDs did.:earsboy:
