As a parent, have you ever made up songs for your kids? What were they? Did you make up the tune or change the lyrics to a song you knew to fit the situation/child/whatever?

Here's two of mine.

No More Crying song

No more crying, no more tears. No more wah wah wah!

I made up the tune on that one and it always gets DS's attention when he's crying and he gets quieter and sometimes stops crying altogether.:D

We Are Wet sung to the tune of 'Be Our Guest' from "Beauty and the Beast"
We Are Wet sung to the tune of "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast

We are wet! We are wet!
Put the diapers to the test!
Put that diaper round your butt, cherie', and
Mom will do the rest!
Pee odeur, Poop du jour, why we only live to serve
Think that grey stuff was delicious? No it wasn't!
Ask the fishes!

I make up little songs for them all the time. I don't remember most of them. But I do remember that I taught them to spell their names using a song.

Hannah is sung to the tune of Blue's Clues' "We just got a letter"
H A N N A H
H A N N A H
H A N N A H
And that's how you spell my name - HANNAH!

Emily is sung to the tune of Bingo
E M I L Y
E M I L Y
E M I L Y
And Emily is her name-o

My maiden name is 13 letters long. I learned to spell it with a song too.

I really enjoy that one, I wish I could have come up with something more clever.
I sing my sons name to the tune of Frere Jacques.
with "I love you" instead of "Ding Dang Dong"
I've never been musically inclined.

I made up a song for my 8 year old Alex when he was a baby...

Lexi-sauce Lexi sauce
I'm a gonna get me some lexi-sauce

yes I am yes I am
and Im gonna eat it with Lexi-jam

youre my boy youre my boy
youre my sweet little baby boy

Lexi stew I love you
Oh how I love my little lexi-stew

It had a silly sing-songy kind of tune and used to make him smile!
I never called him lexi.... but it sounded good for the song!

I don't recall doing it for my DS, but I made up several for DD. She was very difficult to get to sleep and the songs always helped.

She still requests them and she will be 5 next month!

Brenne is pronounced like Brenna. I made up the melody for them.

Brenne's a baby
Sweet little baby
Brenne is a baby who loves to play

Mommy will hug you
Mommy will love you
Mommy will snuggle you
Yes she will

Brenne's a baby
Sweet little baby
Brenne's a baby who goes to sleep.

This one I have the nurses at the hospital to thank. They were always calling her a little muffin.

Brenne is a muffin girl
A muffin girl
A muffin girl
Brenne is a muffin girl
A muffin, muffin girl........................

We had a potty training song, but I'll spare you the lyrics.

Sorry for those whom might be offended by this, but my youngest was known for, um, passing gas frequently, noisily, and odiferously. This was before the age where it was something he could control (and thankfully, now he knows to take it to another room). So one of the bedtime songs we sang was "Jesus Loves the Stinky Tooters" (to the tune of Jesus Loves the Little Children).

:rotfl: :rotfl: LOL!

Sing it with me!

Let's go potty now, everybody's learning how, come on and go potty with me!

OR

It's my potty and I'll try if I want to, try if I want to, try if I want to...

Here is one that Mo and I made up when E was just a little tiny baby...

Babies on a cloud
Babies on a cloud
I love to see babies on a cloud
Watch them float along with little baby wings and baby magic wands
While I sing this happy little song
Babies on a cloud
Babies on a cloud

Repeat as necessary. ;)

I just had to share - this past Christmas my DD (5 at the time) made up this....

(you know the tune... humm along!)

Jingle Bells
Spencer smells
Blue Bird laid an egg
The girl rabbits multiplied
and the cats want to go outside.

Okay... Spencer is our minature doxie
Blue bird is our parakeet
The lady at the pet store SWORE the rabbits were "girls" -
however, when the "girls" had 12 babies - OH MY!!
Jessie and Sassy - the INDOOR cats - who are
always running for the door!

I think she did a pretty good job! She still sings it!

DH and I made this song up when DD6 was born

Mmmyyy name is Amaniiiii
I...Love my mommyyyyy (or daddy)
My mommy is the best
My mommy is the best
She's the best mommy in the whole wide world
And I'm...her baby girl!!!!

Sounds kind of selfish to me but she used to giggle her heart out at it.

WEll here's our potty song...pee,pee on the potty la,la,la,la,la, la

No particular tune. (My DD was about 18 months when we began to sing it and before she could say potty she would just say la,la,la and I knew she had to go). :p

Every single night I sing "AngelFace" to my daughter..it's "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music with a few minor changes.
I say Angelface instead of Edelweiss, and at the end instead of singing "bless our homeland forever" I sing "Bless our home here forever". I started it when she was an infant.
The funny thing is that she just saw The Sound of Music last month and when Edelweiss started she turned to me and said Mommy that's MY special song, but they're singing the wrong word! LOL

Another one is the Who Loves You song.

Who loves you Julia(or Matthew depending on who we are singing to)
Mommy loves you Julia
Who loves you Julia?
Daddy loves you, Julia
Who loves you Julia?
Grandma loves you, Julia..
and we go through all the aunts/uncles, grandparents/cousins.

And for Matty:
Oh Matty, Matty
You're my little boy
Oh Matty, Matty
Mama's pride and joy!

Given that I have no kids, I'll share the song for my cats ;) To the tune of "Wouldn't it be lovely" from My Fair Lady

All I want is a Lilly-lu
A Pippin Kitten
And a Trinny Too!
And their sweet mamma Lu!
Oh aren't they so lovely?

There's also a song about cleaning out the litter box, to the tune of Walking in a Winter Wonderland, but I'll spare you that one.
