I need my dis friends to help me here. We have booked on Southwest for our Nov. trip (day after thanksgiving) but part of our group of 12 is well...let me say really not too comfortable about reserving on Southwest. They would have like to have fly Song as they have flown Song in the past. We all got 79 each way from Hartford and Song at this point is still quite a bit higher. Would love to know what the advantages/disadvantages are of both vs. the other.

Song from Hartford is great. They do have $49 each way (which comes out to $116.90) occasionally. Just got it for our trip in Sept. All flights are nonstop with a TV screen for each seat. 3 flights a day. We have had good flights with Song whenever we have flown with them. I have never flown SW and don't think that I would like having to fight for a seat. Keep checking the rates. They do change often. www.flysong.com

You may not want to fly out of BOS but JetBlue is having a fare sale of $59 that Song may match. Oh - I just noticed your dates - Thanksgiving week is tough. Southwest has some great fares the reason I have not used them is I prefer to have a seat in advance flying with kids and I've been able to get great rates on JetBlue out of BOS. That being said if the difference is paying 79. vs. 144 one way it depends on the conveniences. Southwest if you get there early enough to wait in line (you can print your boardcard A, B, C etc online now with SW) perhaps it won't be an issue.

Well since part of you have booked just go on two airlines... Pretend you are the Royal Family and can't all travel together.

Actually I like both of them. Song has better enteratainment, but I felt like I had MUCH more leg room on SW.

Song and Southwest have identical seat pitch of 33". You may have been in an exit or bulkhead row, or simply in a good mood. :earsboy:

I avoid flying Southwest by all means possible, but that's just me. I've flown them, and I don't like the "cattle" business model, their weak customer service, the fact that they overbook heavily, and the fact that you have no protection on another airline if a flight is canceled or delayed, because Southwest does not interline. Now, they are the most profitable airline in the US, so clearly they do something right and a lot of people like them, but I'm not one of them. When I shop, I just don't bother comparing prices to Southwest.

Got news for you.. as a Million Miler on Delta... SW does not overbook NEAR as much as Delta and Song uses the same software! LOL! Personally I find service on SW far exceeds that on any other airline I fly (NOTE: JetBlue and Midwest Expess don't service my airports) I have actually been interlined on SW. They don't like it, but they will do it!

Given a choice I fly Delta. I still think the Song seat was much more crowded then the SW and I have flown both of them several times.

(Of course my all time worst customer service was on yet a third airline and until SW, Song, Delta or someone else sinks to that all time low I can be pretty happy! LOL!)

Keep in mind that Song, being part of Delta, interlines with Continental, United, American, US Airways and Northwest. That means if you encounter an interruption, they've committed to endorsing your ticket over to any of those airlines to accommodate you.

As another Million Miler ( total for Northwest, Delta, US Air, United, AA) for business, I only fly Southwest when I go on vacation. We fly out of MHT. What's not to like about on time departures, early arrivals, great service and CHEAP airfare!!!! :)

Hi.

I've flown both. I flew SW out of Hartford and Song out of Boston both to Orlando. I honestly liked Song better b/c of the tv, but it's really such a short flight that it shouldn't matter. I'm usually on my own when I fly. The only advice I have about Song is to not get a seat in row 8. That is the last row in the front section. The seats do not recline and they are right next to the bathrooms. Dh and I flew the red eye from Vegas into Boston in row 8...Now we know the meaning of "red eye". :rotfl:

I'm taking SW out of Providence in October (SW doesn't go to Orlando from Boston...) and my sisters are taking SW out Hartford. My flight lands five minutes after theirs and we'll meet up in the terminal. We were able to do this meeting last year using Song. It's pretty cool.

I've flown both out of BDL. I would book again with whoever can get me there the least expensive way.

I prefer Song or Jet Blue from Hartford both for the entertainment and the ability to pick your seat in advance.
I travel ith a handicapped person so we always get first seating but I prefer to have assigned seats. I feel sorry for the familys who board last and have to split up. I have given up my seat many times so a mother can sit with her older child. I don't think any child below age 15 should be sitting alone and can't believe SW would not allow a family of parent and 7 year old to be seperated.
The only problem I have with Song is that I always seem to get the person behind me who doesn't understand the meaning of "Touch Screen" and pokes the TV so hard that my seat keeps bouncing every time they change channels. I hate when that person plays the trivia game, it'w worse than having a kid kick the seat. Peggie

I, too, find that poking the screen often does not work. So I understand why people poke harder and harder.

But gently flicking the screen with the back of my fingernail works for me every time. Flip the TV announcer a birdy, your hand is now in the correct position for this.

If you can, wait until Song offers "class T" fares before booking. These are the really lowest fares that match other airlines' fare sales. Class U is the "everyday low fare", L is a bit higher, K is even higher.

I like my money and a direct flight...I pick SW everytime I can...

I just used Song for the first time on my trip 7/8-7/14. I absolutely loved them. Before I had used southwest for all of my other traveling, but song was the cheapier of the two at the time, so I gave it a try. The first thing I liked about song over southwest was that we had assigned seats. I know with southwest you board in the "a,b,c" order, and just chose your seat when you get on the plane. I liked knowing I wouldn't have to worry about finding the right number of seats together. Second I was impressed that Song had the TV's in the back of the seats. I liked being able to watch the 24 channels they offered, listening to the music they had, and playing the trivia game that you played against other people on the plane. I will defintely fly Song again. They were nice to deal with and because of the extra's they had.

We prefer Song to SW from Hartford because of the assigned seating, the in flight cable TV and the ability to purchase food, but ultimately we go for the best price. So far, SW is much cheaper for our December trip so I booked them.

BTW, another plus of SW, even if I cancel to go Song, I can apply the refund to another flight with NO PENALTY. You can't do that with Song/Delta.

That is my one and only issue with Southwest.

I've flown both Song & Southwest from BDL many times. I know my DH has a problem with SW because they do not do assigned seating and he HATES the cattle call, even though I always tell him to stay seated and I'll wait in line and save him a seat.

I really prefer Song, due to assigned seating and the TV's, but I almost always go for the best price. If SW has the best price - which is probably does near a holiday, I say stick with it! Like another poster said, the flight is so short it really doesn't matter. Some flight times are better for Song than SW, but the return flight times are better on SW.

Song offers reserved seats, tv at every seat, video games and trivia games at every seat, music and movies. Also, the food and drink choices are outstanding. Greated you have to pay for them but big deal.

We have never flown SW and it is my understanding that they do not have the above mentioned items. The big thing is no reserved seating.

If price is the most important thing then by all means go with SW but there is an expression that you get what you pay for and you do get more with Song.

Song, Song, Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We flew SW once and only once..did not like that there were no assigned seats.

Song was perfect. Even though SW flys out of Long Island - MacArthur Airport right by my house, we drive into LaGuardia to fly Song.

Assigned seats, video games, trivia games, pay-per-view movies, televisions, food selections.....all the reasons we fly Song.
