I don't know if this has been posted before. If it has then, please disregard this note :)

On the disney website, you can request that this movie be released! Under Tinker Bells pic it says:
Not currently for sale
If you would like Disney to release this title on video or DVD in the future, click here to let us know.
If you are iinterested here is a link:

Also, there is a petition for the release of Song of the South. Here is a link to that as well :)

No guarantees, but it is worth a try to get them to release this wonderful movie!

I would absolutley love it if Disney would reconsider and release this movie. It is a wonderful movie. It was the first movie my Father took me to see at the theater as a child, and I have a 17 year old dd and I would love for her to see this movie. I have talked about it to her just about all her life!
I just love this movie, I guess that is why Splash Mountain is my favorite ride at MK.
Lets keep our fingers crossed........

Did you know that they sell this on Ebay? But---it is in PAL format-whatever that is. Most of the ads say that it will not play on most US players. It is imported from ??? I would love to see them release this movie so my kids could enjoy it as I did.

Or you could download it from WinMix. :)

I really wish they would re-release it because then my kids would understand what Splash Mountain is all about.

PAL is the European television format. Their TVs have a different resolution (something to do with the number of lines that make up the picture - my husband could give you explicit, detailed explanation but I am not that technical, or just haven't cared to remember from when he's explained it to me :p) so they have PAL formatted video tapes/cameras where we have VHS. You can't play something formatted for PAL without the right player AND television.

My inlaws kept one of their old PAL-format TVs when they moved to America a few years ago so they could still watch their videos from when they lived in Europe, since they wont play on an American TV.

I HAVE a copy from ebay...the lady made me a VHS copy, but it is pretty poor quality. I was wondering if the Europeans were using our versions of DVDs yet. It is a warm, funny movie.

DVD's are released with different encoding in different regions of the world. Most european DVD's won't work on US players, unless you have a DVD player that will specifically play discs from all regions. Most of those are either old or expensive. (Or both!)

We quite often get the film on TV in the UK. Doesn't cause any fuss and the children love it! (So do I!) I have just bought myself a DVD player and the funny thing is that here the cheaper ones can be altered to play DVD's from anywhere - so guess what will be buying when I come over in July as they are far cheaper in the States.

Yes, I did, and I have a PAL copy :) I had to have it copied to NTSC format, so it would play in our VCR. The local place laughed when I brought it in. They said they get about 1 copy of Song of the South/month to be transferred! The quality is not the greatest, but it is still VERY enjoyable to watch! The kids just adore it :) I would absolutely love to have it on DVD! They do have some DVD copies on EBAY, but they are BIG $$$$.

What exactly was the issue with the movie anyway? I remember that it was one of the first movies I ever saw in the theatre.

I only remember tiny bits... is there something called a tar baby in the movie? My DH is sitting here saying, "It was the tar baby... people were offended by the tar baby!" What is a tar baby?

Am I the only one who DOESN'T like this movie? No, I am not offended by it, I just don't like the story or the characters (except for the cartoon bits). The parents are idiots, the little boy is a whiny mess and the only one who has any sense at all is Uncle Remus (he's the also the one who tells the wonderful Brer Rabbit stories). It's all too sappy for me. Cut out the plot and just give me Uncle Remus telling the Brer Rabbit stories and then I like it!

I have a copy of this ... from a laser disc. It's in English w/Japanese character subtitles. My ds love, love, loves it! A friend of ours bought the laser disc and made a few copies for us!

I wish they would re-release it. Heck ... they still play Gone With The Wind ... and that has more controversy w/regard to slavery. For crying out loud, Scarlet slaps her black maid who, by the way, is portrayed to be as stupid as they come!!!! And, Mammy runs around shrieking at Scarlet. Is Song of the South really any worse than that?!

I agree with you about GWTW. I have always hated that movie.

I wish Disney would do a remake of SOTS. Keep the animated parts as they are and redo the rest.
