My chidren's father (my ex) is currently deployed to Afghanistan, and before that was in Iraq with only about 6 months in between. My children are teens and preteens and often do not email or write as much as he would like them to so usually about every two weeks I send him something with all their accomplishments and what they are up to. It is amazing to me that the kids will get a phone call from him and they forget everything they are doing! I got a email from him recently and he sounds a little bit depressed which is certainly natural. In it he thanked me for taking care of the kids and how much he is missing etc etc. I thought I might try to put together a CD for him with a bunch of pictures from soccer games, playing on the skateboard he sent them, stuff like that. My brother suggested having a song in the background and I can't think of a single one! He is more into the harder rock songs and everything I can think of is country or slower rock. I can't find a happy medium. I actually was thinking of putting "Carolina on my mind" by James Brown. The kids are here in NC. The kids don't have any suggestions though they are thinking. Do you have any suggestions for songs for this type of thing? I want it to be happy or uplifting.

Thanks
Kelly

I think Carolina on my mind is a great suggestion. It's a little sappy, though, so I was thinking you might want to go with something a little more upbeat, and in line with what the kids are doing.

What a really nice thing for you to do for your Ex. Your kids will really appreciate what you did to keep them close to their dad.

I agree, its too sappy. Not very uplifting. But, once you get something stuck in your mind it never goes away!

As for my ex well we had probably the worst divorce in history. But, we always were good parents and I wanted it to stay that way. So we actually try.

A totally different direction...I thought of because of where he is and what he is doing for his children and many more children. Would be Born in the USA it is rock. I could just see your children riding the skateboards and other sports with is song in the background. :confused3

Another nice one would be Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Kind of a quick tempo, and very nice with pictures.

Your Carolina reference made James Taylor's "Carolina in my Mind" pop into my head, might work for part of the CD. ("In my mind, I'm going to Carolina....") The CD is a great idea!

I have one that I can think of right now. DH used it as the background music for a Power Point presentation of our church's youth group having fun at camp. The kids loved it as does our DS4. It's a catchy tune.

Title: Nuisance
Artist: John Reuben

The lyrics can be found at the link below. Sorry, I don't have a link for you to hear the song, but you might be able to find it if you Google it.

Is there a song that he and the kids liked to sing together? That's what I would go with. Otherwise, I vote "Shoot to Thrill" or "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC, because everyone I know that likes hard rock likes those songs. :)

Or maybe Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home", lol.

What about

Foo Fighters...Resolve
Queen...Another one bites the dust, we will rock you, we are the champions
Van Halen....jump
Guns N Roses....sweet child of mine or welcome to the jungle

I actually did think about Sweet Child of Mine but unfortunately it did have have a meaning for the two of us way back when. Not sure if I feel comfortable with that one, but definitely still in the running.

I was also thinking about the Creed song he wrote for his little boy but can't think of the name.

Oh well, I have time and will keep thinking. Thanks for all the suggestions and keep them coming!
