Considering flying out of Hartford. Does anyone know about how far the airport is from Danbury time wise? I know I have passed signs for it when we've driven on 84, but for some reason I think it was actually passed Hartford when we were travelling east from Danbury. I always meant to pay attention as to the distance in case I ever wanted to fly out of here but of course I can't seem to recall!

I have also been stuck in some serious traffic in that area too, and although I would be saving about $150 over flying out of LGA I don't want it to be too much of a hassle. How is the Hartford airport? I'd love to hear anyone's experiences!!

We fly SONG out of BDL 5 - 6 times a year, usually on the 7:00 AM flight (1997).
We come from east of the river. Danbury to BDL is about 70 miles; I-84 East to I-91 North and then exit 40 off of I-91. Time of day will determine trip duration. If you are traveling on the the early morning flight, you will have to leave around 4:00/4:30 AM and it will probably take around an hour and 15 minutes, give or take 5 minutes. Weekdays, during the day you can be subject to construction delays (9 - 3) usually in Waterbury or Cheshire. From 3:00 - 7:00 PM you can count on rush hour delays. Weekends are usually not a problem. BTW, the 7:00 AM flight is great and gets you to WDW by 11:00 AM!

Thanks!! You're right about the constuction around Waterbury, that is what I remember. Plus 84 from Danbury is jammed every night from 4pm on it seems.

I was looking at a flight leaving at 3:00pm on a Thursday, so the construction could be a problem. I appreciate the info. It will probably still be about the same time as driving to LGA (1 1/2 hr w/o trafffic) so I guess I'll have to see what looks like the better drive.

How is the airport and the Song terminal itself? Having flown almost always from NYC, every other airport seems so nice!

We always try to fly Song out of Bradley, and we live in Danbury. It's much a more pleasant airport experience than any of the NY airports, and parking is more affordable too!
Good luck!

Based on your reply, I would opt for BDL. Traffic for a 3:00 PM Thursday flight should not be bad. There are no tolls and Long Term parking at BDL is cheaper.
Coupons on the internet for Avistar, Roncari, and Piccolo. Song shares a terminal with other airlines (Southwest, Northwest, and few others). They fly out of 4 or 5 gates (A9 - A12). Security checkpoints are not that busy mid-afternoon. Good luck!

Thanks PCFriar80. Lets see if I can convince my family now! (No one is really anxious to fly. But that is a topic for another thread! LOL!)
