Does anyone know what is going on with delta's song airline? Are they going out of business already? I read they are no longer flying out of certain airports after only 6 mos. I am getting nervous as I am one of the ones they changed flights on out of Newark, NJ. I am debating on changing my outgoing flight to the 7:40 AM as they changed my nonstop 2:15 flight to a delta flight stopping in Atlanta.

They have not notified me, I only knew because of these fantastic boards. I think I should request a refund and fly on another airline. I thought TV convenience would be better for my kids on Song. Does any other airline have this besides JetBlue?
 
I'll be watching this thread right along with you! After days of trying to decide, we finally settled on a non-stop Song out of Hartford, CT. They are still flying out of Bradley as far as I know, but I'm going to look around the web for some info..... I'll let you know what I see.:confused:
 
We are flying SONG from EWR to MCO in September. I was also changed from the 2:05PM non stop on SONG to the Delta afternoon connecting flight, so I called them and changed to the 7:40AM SONG nonstop flight.
On my return, my 10:45AM non stop, has been changed to a 10:20AM flight changing in ATL, and this one I am leaving alone.
I will continue to check and see if they reinstate the flights on SONG that they cancelled for Sept and Oct out of Newark. I am not happy, but the fare is good $207.20 compared to anything else out of EWR right now.

Song is a branch of Delta, not their own company. So, Song isn't going out of business, unless Delta is.

However, since they're a fairly new service, they're still working out their route schedule, and making adjustments to ensure maximum profitability.

Delta themselves recently (in the past year or so) became alliance partners with Continental/Northwest. I don't know the complete details of the arrangement, but the majority of it is a codeshare partnership. A code-share means that both airlines market the flight, but have distinct flight numbers, and it's operated by one of the airlines in the agreement.

Not exactly the most clear description, so a quick example. The other day, I had a code-share flight. I booked my ticket through Northwest, on NW flight 1500 from Detroit to Syracuse. On the display monitors, it was also listed as Delta flight 7506. The plane was a Northwest plane, with a Northwest crew. The codeshare means that Delta customers can purchase (through Delta) tickets on flight 7506, which is operated by NW. (flight numbers used in this example may not be the actual flight numbers, but you get the general idea)

Since the codeshare agreement is fairly new too, they're also still experimenting to see what routes they'd like to offer as a codeshare, and this may be affecting the Song routes.

Song just added some filghts to their schedule from Boston, so I don't think they are going out of business, just rearranging the schedule to maximize profit.
With the announcement yesterday about low fare airlines doing a better job than the traditional airlines, I would expect to see more airlines putting more planes on low fare runs, and taking over some routes traditionally carried by the name brands.
United has a low fare airline (named Ted, of all things) that still has very limited routes, and Jet Blue, Song, and Southwest are still expanding. Southwest is flying from Manchester to Philly for $29 each way right now.
