My son is in his 2nd yr of callege and he just informed me he is changing his major to civil engineering. That is fine with me he is the one who has to choose.

He said there are good jobs and it is a high paying ( he likes money)
All I told him was that if he got a job paying 100,000. a year i expect WDW tickets every year for Christmas!! LOL

Good for him.. he knows what he likes... I have one daughter who is educated and is making peanuts... she has her masters in English... oh well.

At my 7th grade son's teacher conference today his teacher asked what he wanted to do as an adult. He said a video game programmer or professional wrestler (UGH!). I asked him if he was going to support DH and I when we got old and he answered, "I don't have a choice, do I?". His teacher laughed and told me I had done a good job raising him

My son informed me in his third year of college that he was changing his major. It added two years onto the time it took him to get his BA. I sure hope that isn't the case with your son.

How great that he knows what he wants to major in now.

My DD has changed her major twice now
She is a senior, so I hope she sticks with the latest.....and can find a job.

DS never changed his major, but changed schools....that slowed him down some. But he graduated in March and is working ....but not making enough to send me anywhere

Civil engineering is hard, but worth the work. Most of my friends who were engineering majors did mechanical (one of whom is an actual, bona fide rocket scientist now!), and they all loved it. One of them minored in Civil, and he's still looking for a job, but he only graduated in May so we're not too worried yet.

The rest of our group of friends, though, is staying in college as long as we can!

B-I-L is an engineer and started out with an awesome job....setting up dynamite charges for construction companies to build roads and in mines. His company was then absorbed into the parent company and of course they downsized. Now he works for a water company and hates it so he's going back to school next fall. But on the good side of that is he's been accepted at Notre Dame!
