I just wanted to ask for prayers and thoughts this Thursday March 20, as my 15 year old son will be having his tonsils removed. This should be routine surgery but, they have sent us to the local children's hospital because they are so infected that they are neucrotic ( I am sure I butchered the spelling), I guess it means that they are decaying :guilty: . They are worried about the poisons that will be release when they are removing them. They have had him on huge loading dose of antibiotic and will give him another via IV before surgery.

I feel at peace but, there is still the fear of having your child under anesthetia and the surgery: sad1: .

I thank all my dis friends for allowing me to come here for support.

Thanks again for the prayers.

PS I am sure this worry is because of high emotions and tough times of the last couple of weeks. Our dog died and I was laid off work after a disability.

Thanks again for the support I find on DIS. :thanks:

You guys are the best. :disrocks:

Sorry to hear about what you have to go through. If it makes you feel any better, I had several surgeries as a kid, and I came out of them all just fine. I'm sure your son (and you) will be just fine, just take a deep breath and relax.

Good luck and I will be thinking of him:hug:

My daughter had the surgery when she was barely 3 years old. I've always heard it is easier when they are smaller. When the surgeon came out of the OR, he said that her adenoids were HUGE and her tonsils were ROTTEN!:scared:
I was worried for the ten days from when we scheduled the surgery until they wheeled her into the OR. When I walked back to the waiting room, I just had a sense of peace come over me that could only come from the LORD. I have said a prayer for you and your child. I don't know who you are, but He does.

I will say a prayer for you and your son too. I know it can be very stressful while anticipating a surgery on your child. My oldest son had his tonsils and adenoids removed right before his 7th birthday. I was so worried, but he did terrific and recovered quickly. (I guess his new Playstation helped.) There were a few teenagers having their tonsils removed at the same time, and they all did well too.

May God's peace surround you and your son recover quickly!

Thank you everyone for the support. We are travelling to Portland today so I won't be able to update until we get home sometime late tomorrow or on Friday. If all goes well.

I am so thankful for the prayers and know that God is helping us through this.

Have a great Day.

Jo

You mentioned Portland... are you on the West coast? My ds had surgery to remove his gallbladder (prematurity related) at Doernbechers Childrens Hospital. They are truly terrific there! I am definitely praying the surgery goes smoothly and your ds has a speedy recovery. {{hugs}}

Any time your child has to have surgery it is scary! I've had 2 of my kids need surgery. Nothing major but, both had to be under general anesthesia and they were both little and didn't understand. One was 1 and the other was 3. I'm sure he will be just fine and my thoughts will be with you. Hoping for a speedy recovery!!;)

:grouphug: Try not to worry. It will all work out. :grouphug:
Both of my boys have had surgery. (One minor, one major) It was really hard to keep my composure, but if you can it will make him less worried.

Let us know how it goes. :goodvibes

My oldest had her tonsils removed when she was 2 1/2. She had nearly constant infections, snored, and didn't sleep well prior to their removal. She had the surgery on a Friday morning and spend the night at the hospital due to her age. The first 12 hours were a bit rough but she recovered quickly and by Sunday afternoon we were able to take her swimming. She immediately stopped snoring and sleeping better and hasn't had any infections or strep since.

I hope all goes as well for your son. I will be thinking of him and your family and praying for a quick recovery.

DD just had her tonsils removed in December, when she was almost 10. All went well and I hope the same for your son.

I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping him drinking after the surgery. He won't want to, but the more he drinks, the faster and easier his recovery will be. Find something he likes and just keep getting it. For DD, it was blue slurpees from 7-11. (Two of those daily is enough to turn poop neon green, fyi.)

Constant drinking keeps the wounds in the throat moist and flushed. This keeps the scab from getting hard and bleeding when it peels away. Wet scabs just come off piece by piece as they heal. With DD, we never saw any scab, while my neighbor's DS (who absolutely refused to drink) had them come up in bloddy chunks. Drinking hurts at first (and first thing each morning), but it gets easier the more they drink.

Good luck!!

Sending prayers+thoughts to your son+yourself from across the 'pond'.Hope all goes well,take care. :flower3: .x.

Sending thoughts and prayers to you, your son and the whole family, but not just for surgery, the loss of your pooch and the loss of your job too. Hang in there!! Tought times never last, tough people do!!;)

My DD13 had that done at 7, and she was fine a few weeks later. She also rotten tonsils, but the reason why she had the operation was just to cut down on her three-a-year chronic sinus infections (which it did :woohoo:). The surgery went quite routinely, except she bled ALOT. It also didn't help that they couldn't do an IV where they wanted to because she had a cast on her left elbow. :guilty:

It's fine to be worried, you're better off to express your emotions than keep them bottled up inside. I hate to say it, but what I always think about is that it could be worse. When my DH had major back surgery in the summer of '06 the man sharing a room with in was in real bad shape! He had been in the hospital for about three weeks already after having surgery in his abdomen. Apparently when he was born with his whole digestive sytem (and beyond) in the wrong order and his operation was to rearrange most of his internal organs. :scared1: My DH was in serious pain, but by the way this man moaned you could tell he felt like he was near death. Luckily he was okay, but I felt so sad watching him.

An example of someone closer to your son's age is my DS17's friend. His parents are also our good friends, so we're close to them in general. The poor boy has (had) a very bad underbite, it wasn't just his teeth but his whole jaw. He had surgery about three weeks ago to fix that, eight hours in the operating room! They actually had to cut a big piece of bone out of his jaw and they moved his whole mouth back to line up with his upper jaw. They also had to place bars and all sorts of things in his mouth. He was in so much pain that first week of recovery, and for the next month he still has to take it very easy, as he can easily pop a blood vessel. Again, I just feel so bad, though thankfully he is quite a bit better now.

Good luck with your son, I wish you both the best!

My DD7 is having the same surgery Thursday.

I feel your pain, it is never easy to have your child exposed to anesthesia for the 1st time.

Good Luck and I will add your son to my prayers that all goes well tomorrow.:grouphug:

Prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

God bless and best wishes to you and your son! My DD had hers out when she was 7. I am a nurse and I made them make her a 23 hour admit- due to the cauterization required- no sutures anymore- and the fact that bleeding after this surgery is a big worry! Prayers to you and your DS!

:grouphug:

Best of luck...anytime we see our children sick or watch them go through anything difficult, big or small, we worry. It's perfectly natural...take care.
