Son dumped by his roommate!

Wishing your DS the best. I suspect everything will turn out for the better this way. But after first year, have your DS move off campus. It's so much better to live off campus and have your own place. :)

My parents dropped me off and I graciously let them stay long enough to help me carry my stuff into my room. LOL My plan for involvement in their "college experience" is to encourage them, tell them it will be fine and then drop them off fast and then worry myself sick until the first phone call just like my parents did.

This is the perfect philosophy. Don't micromanage the kid's dorm situation! He will resent it! Men do not go without cable TV for long, so even if the new roommate never coordinates with him, everything will work out perfectly fine.

If he does that, make sure he knows his rights. The state attorney general's office should have some information on tenant rights & responsibilities. I live in fairly close to 3 big universities & I work for one as well (although tomorrow is my last day). There are alot of sleazy landlords out there who don't give a hoot & take advantage of students who don't know any better. My friend had to call the city's No Heat hotline on her landlord when she was a student. He lived in the building & their apt was freezing while his was toasty warm when they went there to complain.

Personally, I prefered being on campus because it was closer to classes & the library. I also liked being able to go to the dining hall & not worry about cooking or grocery shopping (although our dining halls were alot better than most schools).
