Last night, my son was getting into the car and his Verizon Razzle slipped out of his pocket and fell to the pavement. No physical damage but the screen is now white, so he can't make calls, etc, because you can't see anything! We added him to the contract in January, and got the Razzle for free. I did not get the insurance (kicking myself now) Does anyone know if these can be repaired?

Verizon wants $239 for a new one - not paying that!! Its a great texting phone and very simple for him, I actually like it alot! Can't believe there's no way to fix this...seems like such a waste, for a 5 month old phone. Sugestions anyone?

The only thing I can think of is maybe the SIM card got knocked loose? That's happened to me a few times after dropping my cheap little pre-paid phone. I'll try to turn it on and it makes a squeeling noise and the screen is all scrambled. I just open up the back, secure the SIM card, close it back up, turn it on and it's fine.

can you add him to insurance now and then make a claim? Some companies work with you this way, not sure if they will or not.

What about buying a phone off of ebay or craigslist? Does verizon sell refurb's that you might be able to get cheaper than the $239?

My daughter did the same thing over the weekend! No insurance, so AT&T is suggesting we buy her a pre-paid phone and just put her Sim card in it. She still has nearly a year before her upgrade. I will definitely get insurance on her next phone!

With verizon you must purchase the warranty within 30 days of your phone purchase. People have reported that you can get a prepaid cell phone and then switch his # over to the prepaid phone. Never tried this myself. Another option is to see if a friend or family member has an old verizon phone you could use for him.

I tried the prepaid and it doesn't work right away. It has to be active for 6 months as a prepay before Verion will activate it as a line.

I have done both of these ideas:

Get an old phone from a friend who has gotten one upgraded, or any verizon phone you have around. Very easy to activate it to the existing number.

I have also bought a refurb directly by calling the verizon number. It was $89 I think.
