I am working with a class of deaf kindergarteners with one pre-K. Next year it will be 6 1st graders, 1 kindergartener and 1 pre-K. The principal decided to move the class to another room. It is next door to the ESE office where they hold the IEP meetings. Why the move? They want a quiet class in there and think that a class of deaf kids will be quieter. Have they ever been in the room while the kids are at centers? No! These kids are deaf not mute! They can be just as noisy as a similar group of hearing kids. In fact sometimes they are noisier.
Seems that even those who should know have no clue about deaf children. Are they in for a big surprise!
