sometimes it's good to have a seeker!!

Our 4 yr old dd Zoe with ASD did great at the dentist's today!! Every 6 mths, I bring the girls there for a checkup/cleaning. In the past, Zoe wouldn't even let the dentist look at her teeth. However, she's a sensory seeker, and I think curiosity got the better of her!! She let our dentist give her a checkup, and full cleaning. I couldn't believe it!! Just wanted to share a little victory with my friends.

My dd is the same way! She's terrified at the dr., give her the dentist any day LOL

I knew you guys would get it!! My biggest fear was that she'd never let the dentist do a cleaning on her, then someday she'd need something painful like a cavity filled, and it would be traumatic. I'm a big fan of getting them to the dentist's when they're young, so they have a lot of good visits under their belt, kwim?

I actually started crying at the last checkup, because Zoe was so resistant. I asked the dentist, "what if she never lets you check her teeth?" The dentist said if it came to that, she'd refer her to a specialist, and they'd probably sedate her. I'm so grateful this visit went well.

It sounds like her visit went well. DS2 hates the Dr even when it is mamas turn he freaks out.

I have never heard the term seeker till he started therapy for his numerous problems from eating to speech. I never thought about what the therapist meant until you used it as sensory seeker. Now that makes complete sense.

Glad to help a little!! Seekers are fun and scary!! There's very little if any, built in caution, so things like pools, and parking lots can make you more than a little neurotic. But if you can get past that, and see things through their eyes, it's a wild ride!!

PS, just to confuse things, sometimes Zoe's an avoider. Like in big crowds at WDW. So be on the lookout for your son to change sometimes.

That is exactly how my dd is! We still put her in a stroller so no one accidently touches her or bumps her, which could result in a meltdown (and has) so bad we've had to leave for the day.

I totally get this. I have to spd seekers and they love the dentist. I thought they would give me trouble there especially my younger one but nope!
