Sometimes I'd rather things *didn't* go on sale!

I swear sometimes sale prices are more trouble then they are worth!

I did my normal weekly shoping trip the other day. Of the two dozen or so items I needed, 4 were unavailable because they were on sale and totally sold out.

Yes, I know I can get a raincheck but that still means I need to make a 2nd trip to the store, plus meanwhile I don't have that item at home so we can use it!

I'd would have rather paid regular price and have the item available than not be able to buy it because it was sold out. The sale price does me no good if I can't get the item.

And stockpiling is an issue because if it's in the house my DH will eat it. All of it. Stock up on cheese because it's on sale? Dh will demolish it (along with all the crackers) in a day or two. Just last week he ate a whole package of heat-and-serve breakfast sausage in one go! And yes I've talked to him about it but he just doesn't care and it's not worthy fighting over.

Ugh, sorry just needed to vent!

I just get the raincheck, I know I'm probably going to be back in the next 2 weeks anyway so it's not a big deal for me. I will say I don't like how everything is gone the last couple days of the sale tho, sometimes I can't make it to the store until Monday or Tuesday, it really bugs me when half of what I want is gone.
What your DH does would make me insane, good luck! :)

Haha...my DH does the same thing. I don't get it either. He seems to think if food is there, it should be eaten

I have the same promblem! I actually ave been stocking up for are trip to the world soon ( snacks etc) so I had to get out the cooler put the non parashible in cooler put cooler in my closet and put a sheet over it to hide it! lol

My kids are the same way as your DH, if it's in the house they eat it so I tend to hide things on top shelves of the cupboard and in the very back of the pantry.

But I agree, I hate it when I need something and the store is completely out because it's on sale. I never ask for rainchecks on groceries, I know I'll forget about it anyway, I usually just end up going to another store to get it.

My DH is exactly the same. If I stockpile crackers, or cereal because it's on sale it'll be gone in a matter of days! Same goes for ice cream, treats and snack stuff.

I've explained to him that those things should have lasted us a month but he just shrugs and keeps doing it. Whatever, it's not worth arguing over. He's bottomless and it drives me crazy!

If he eats that much, I wouldn't think he would be bottomless. I would think he would have a very large bottom in fact.
LMAO! Surprisingly enough, he's not huge. I just look at food and gain weight. he eats enormous amounts of food and he's still wearing the same pant size he wore when we met. He works in the ER/Urgent care and is up running around all day for 12+ hours. I wish I had his metabolism.

That's my husband too. I don't understand why he feels the need to eat everything in site! I have been hiding stuff that is cupboard stable from him just so it will last. And then to add insult to injury, he puts on weight and then just stops eating alot for a month and loses it all.

Me - I run up and down stairs 3 hours every day working and then do 2 mile walks most days, eat light and barely lose 2 lbs. Not fair!

I'm lucky regarding stores - if it's sold out at one store, I can usually find it at the other store that is near me.

Be glad you have only one like this ... I have two! Not two husbands, two teenage boys ... who are bottomless pits .... and on summer vacation! So, while I'm at work during the day, they are at home ... eating! Well, not only eating, but you know what I mean. I also have DH, who is quite a bit better than the boys, but does the same thing now and then too.

I love 'em, but sometimes!! :scared1: ;)

Supermarkets usually restock nightly - except weekends (especially Sunday night). Monday is probably the worst day to shop if something's on sale, and the earlier in the day you can get there the other days the better - to beat the shoppers stocking up on sale items you're just buying as part of your normal trip ;).

Or just avoid the chain that has the item on sale.

I run into this problem because the sale flyer starts on Friday morning here and I usually do the grocery shop on Sunday. I can't tell you how many times something is on my list and I can't get it because it was on sale and the shelf is bare.
I could easily solve the problem by doing groceries Friday night.. but who wants to do that after work. Not me.
So, eventually it means a second trip back to the store.

Next time you go get a raincheck, ask the customer service desk what days are restocking days =) They'll usually tell you so you know when to go back. For instance, I know that my local Kroger gets it's trucks in on Tuesday & Friday mornings. It takes them about 24 hours to get it all onto the floor, so Wednesday & Saturday mornings are my "sweet spot" for getting newly restocked items.

This is why I love the different kinds of "alternative" stores. I have only had this problem with Costco once, and it wasn't sale related. I love Trader Joe's, which is just cheap, but no particular sales (of course it's on the other side of the planet from me...). And my Korean grocer is wonderful, but they don't seem to believe in sales on anything I'd consider a staple. They do, however, issue coupons for plain old produce, so I'll forgive them anything. (I'm not at all Korean, it was just the best local grocery store... yet I notice I'm far from the only snowy white woman in the store these days, they're just amazing! :thumbsup2 )

Shoot... my husband is 155 lbs lean (size 32) .... I swear he eats 4 times what I do. I also have a 4 year old with his metabolism... So why am I the only one worried about bathingsuit season. :crazy2:

You'd think the stairs would help, wouldn't you? I counted, running back and forth between my equipment and my controls, I climb 120 flights of stairs a day and also walk (rapidly) about 3 miles a day. Doesn't help at all.

Eat right? Pfffttt... I was skinny eating 2 Burger King Whoppers and 2 large fries a day (1 lunch and 1 dinner). Got married, eat a home cooked 50% home grown (garden and beef) and 50% organic/antibiotic purchased dinners and I'm 50 lb. heavier than when I ate 2 Whoppers and 2 large fries every day.

I think I'd have an attack if I had more than one person in my house who ate like this. we don't have kids yet. and I'm hoping for girls, lol, I see my cousin's boys (who are just in Elementary school) and they eat like crazy.

I know!!! :confused3 I don't get it! And if he gains a bit of weight he just cuts back a bit, runs a few miles and, BAM, the weight if off. I struggle and go to weight watchers every week, follow my points to the T and barely lose a pound a week. Unfair!

I feel your pain. My husband can eat a large bag of potato chips in one sitting. Box of snacks (Little Debbie's, etc) gone in 2 days. Now that he is retired it is worse. Last weekend I had to hid some chips so that we could have them the next day. I told him about it and he just laughed.

Ladies, when I met my husband he used to TRY to gain weight and he just couldn't. His metabolism was just crazy.

Over the years maybe 15 pounds crept on, but that was in ten years which is expected as people age.
This year? One winter and NONE of his summer clothes fit. Went up two waist sizes:confused:

Sometimes metabolism just changes. All of a sudden he has to learn to eat properly and portion control and cut snacks etc. Me? I could write a book in half an hour:rolleyes1

So.. just thought I'd chime in on the lucky metabolism husbands. It doesn't always stay that way!
